Hey JP, thanks. It's about as tippy as a flying junior, not bad at all. I was out in the ocean last weekend, and the wind died. I rowed back into the harbor about 3/4 mile, very easy, and fun.
I am getting ready to move back to the west coast next summer and have plans to build my own GIS once we get settled. Looking forward to sailing those same waters.
jeremy reed Nice. There is one more GIS here in San Diego. You should join the Goat Island Skiff group on facebook. People help each other there on the build process, and you can easily ask any questions you have directly to Michael Storer, the designer.
Really like this video especially since it shows the sailboat on coastal waters. Did you build it yourself?....i know a guy who sold his because he said the sailboat was too tender or tippy but you seem to be in good control of the sailboat....how does it row?
Love your videos. I am considering building the Gis. How long is your beautiful boat and trailer when parked in the garage? I have 21' in my garage. I think it is long enough.
Hi John, I keep mine in the garage. The mast is the same length as the boat at 15.5 feet, so the boat on the trailer including the trailer tongue comes out to about 18 feet. Fits perfectly. If you have not already, you should check out the Goat Island Skiff facebook group. It's very active with folks sailing their GIS's and people currently building. For the fb group, just send a request ot join, they are good about getting people in right away.
