These are my two new goats: Thelma & Louise. They are best buddies and so much fun. Thelma loves to train and work for crunchy alfalfa treats. Louise is getting more confident. She was very shy when I got her. :)
Many of the tricks in this video are just natural behaviors that goats love to do. I just added my body. :) Goats love to jump up on things. So, first I rewarded for jumping on the stumps and then I sat on the stumps and she quickly jumped up into my lap. I think by starting with natural behaviors, it will help build their confidence and make training valuable and fun.
I am still working on shaping them to wear their harness, then I will teach them to walk on a leash. :)

This is too cute. My friends who believe that only dogs are trainable (I'm a border collie person) are always skeptical when I tell them one of my cats does tricks too. I can't wait to see their faces when I show them your goat tricks.

Hey Pam, that looks a little scarey, they are so frisky and have pretty unpredictable movements, a challenge after Collies. Think they need panties lol.

Be sure you think about how big your goats will be as adults before you teach them to jump on you. Cute at 20 pounds, dangerous at 80 to 200 pounds (or more!) especially if you happen to have your back to the goat because you are doing something else around the farm. Once you've taught them to see that as an invitation to jump on you, it's a lot harder to change the message later. Livestock First Rule of Safety: Always require an animal to respect every humans' personal space. (This increases the odds that your goat will end up being allowed to live a long and happy life, so it is not *just* in the best interest of the humans.)

Ok, Pamela, I can't believe that you have these 2 darlings, as well! How fortunate for me that I found this as I've been volunteering at an equine therapy ranch near me and have gotten into clicker training a senior rescue horse, and gotten people interested in clicker training. I've been recommending your channel for dog training, and now some of the people have gotten permission to start training the goats. I've been doing some research to help, and am so excited to find this video from you! Yahoo! You rock!

Nikki Brown YAY! That is really cool! How fun working with horses! I grew up with horses but I am sticking with dogs and my farm animals. I would love horses, but they are just so expensive and I don't want to take away from the time I spend with my dogs. :)

Hi Nik Kru, Maybe down the road, but for now my dogs are too excited by the goats. The Border Collies want to herd them and my husky mix wants to chase them. However, I am not allowing them to herd or chase the goats. I have been working on calmness around the goats, being able to focus and work on their tricks around the goats and recalls away from the goat pen. So, it will be awhile before they will be able to be in the pen with the goats and not chase them...

For a pygmy goat do you have to have 2 of them and can they live with chickens if they got a descent size pen

I am not a goat expert, but I have heard that goats do best when they have another goat to keep them company. That is why I got 2 goats... Hope that helps...
