I dont now how to feel about seeing these go. The first time I had seen or been into one was the TA in Ontario at a very low point in my life. It really helped get my head right that day.

My dad worked at the original TA truck stop in Ontario California when it opened in 1983 on the east side of Milliken Ave and next to the I-10. In 1983, the corporation had plans to develop the rest of the land between their truck stop and the I-15. The only thing that the corporation did was add more parking spaces for the truckers. That's how hot ($$$$) the Southern California Real Estate market was in the mid 1980's. The last time I visited that part of Ontario around 2012, I discovered the TA took over the 76 Truck Stop that was on the west side of Milliken Ave next to the I-10. The Petro Truck Stop corporation took over the TA's original location. The Ontario Mills Outlet Mall and its enormous retail shopping compound are directly across the I-10 from the two truck stops. Depending on when Ken visited the chapel at the TA that I assume to be located in Southern California, he may not necessarily recognize this part of SoCal. I know I have been shocked to see the development in this part of SoCal has changed over the last twelve years, because I lived near that part of southern California from October 1981 to Valentine's Day 2011.

That truck has been a fixture at Ken's Truck Town for a long time. Sad to see it go, but it's nice that it's getting saved rather than go to scrap. The CL's and LTL's are getting pretty rare.

Congratulations on obtaining a mostly intact Fort (FORD = First On Race Day) CL9000. Looks like it really is mostly complete and I doubt that CL9000 parts are easy to find these days. I say name it "Grace", because it was by grace that survived this long, is in this good of a condition, and has now been saved.

I can remember seeing those trucks on the highways, one even tried to corral us when I was with the Canadian Military Engineers of the Canadian Armed Forces, we were based at what was CFB Chilliwack and were always out and about doing training in the Fraser Valley and beyond in British Columbia back until the base closed around 1995.

All those Ford semi trucks were underrated pieces of equipment. The cabovers especially were notoriously comfortable rides. I believe they were the first cabovers to have air-ride cabs.

I think you should upgrade the CL9000 from a single axle to a dual axle drive; replace the spoke axles with chrome stud rims and wheels, install a new Eaton Fuller 13-speed or 18-speed transmission, and keep the actual paint.

Nice find there Steve,hard to believe it's been sitting there waiting for you since 1994. It could do with a chassis extension and put a bogey under the back to make it more adaptable. I worked at a Peterbuilt and Ford dealership from 83-86. The 9000 COE freaked everyone out the first time you took a corner. 😅. They were decent riding, but the quality was not close to a 352 or 362. We hated working on them because the Ford part’s system was a mess compared to Peterbuilt. Make sure you have a good grip on the grab bar, because it’s a long way down!

Funny story, I live up here in the pacific northwest. Always loved seeing that ol girl when I was up there in north bend. I had an 88 CLT9000 and it was the sweetest tractor. It looked sharp. Unfortunately there were some mechanical issues(some related to the air ride cab) that kept it down more than I could afford. Mine had a big back room, 400 Cummins, 18 speed. Couldn't get into the big hole until I got out of New England.

Why don't you build out that trailer as a motorhome type tow behind via(insert whatever truck here). Motorhome build/conversion would be content, though a long project, you could dress it up with FSC inc logo and use it to stay in at truck shows as a mobile studio to do YT interviews from at the shows with other content creators. Sure it would take time and a fair bit of money but in the end it would be a unique tow behind, and a tax write off.

With a two axel tractor, Steve could get into running doubles. My dad owned two 1970's era F-Series that had two axles for a contract that called for 2 sets of doubles to haul the freight for one of his contracts during the second half of that decade. I know he had the Maxidyne Engine and 5 speed manual transmission in both of those particular tractors. My dad's company ran out here in California and some of the other 10 Western States. That's why I said Steve might consider running doubles with this classic Ford two axel Cab Over tractor.

A lifetime ago I was a subscriber to Overdrive magazine. I still remember they published an article about the new Ford CL9000 cabover and how it was a big improvement over other cabovers. Overdrive was the voice of the independent trucker back then.

It looks nice but she's going to be a tough truck to use, single spring rear, super short wheelbase, and spoke rims. What's the power and trans, I'd guess a 250hp with a 9-speed? It does look clean enough that it can be modernized and have a good rig. Twenty years ago I almost bought one of these as a 10-wheel straight flatbed but wound up buying a Pete 377 instead. Looking forward to the rebirth, if you will.... ;)

How about "ole faithful" for its name? Beautiful condition in the cab and sleeper Steve. I think you got your self a cool old rig that will be quite collectable once your done doing her up. Adding a tandem drive would be sweet and then you could use her as a back up to Orwell when she needs repairs. Be cool if you could keep the artillery wheels on her. But yeah awesome man, congratulations. Ps another idea for the trailer is to kit it out as a RV mobile home would be pretty sweet.🤙
