Friends, our first reading and our Gospel today are about the word of God, both from God’s side as he speaks, and then from our side as we receive. God has spoken through creation, the prophets, the Scriptures-and, in the fullness of time, the very Word of God. If you open your mind and heart to the power of God’s word, it will change you.

At one time I was what is called a ‘fallen away’ Catholic. I picked up the Bible one day and began reading. In particular, the Gospels had a profound effect on me. I was never the same. I realized who Jesus is and what He had done for me. I looked at creation in a new way. Since those days many years ago I have devoted myself to parish ministries. I tell everyone the Bible is alive! For a long time I didn't want to hear the Word of God for the basest of reasons, I liked sinning and I didn't want anyone or anything to put a damper on that. When you get to the heart of it with a lot of people that is what is going on. The Word of God tells us sin is wrong and the wages is death. When you're engaging in hedonistic acts you don't want to hear that, especially when deep down you know it's true. But salvation is there for all who seek it, for everyone who humbles themselves, repents, and does their best to sin no more, because they don't want to. It really is that simple. We're the ones who make the whole thing difficult.

Thank you bishop Barron, so much craziness going on both in the world and church. I awoke few mornings ago with a continual playing in my thoughts of the passage of where Jesus asks Peter are you going to leave me too and Peter replies to whom would I go. I was questioning all the confusion that's being preached in and out of the church and felt shaken but once that thought came and wouldn't leave I answered no Lord I'm not leaving but all the more listening to sound doctrine so thank bishop from bottom of my heart.🙏🙏🙏.

Thank you Bishop Barron, I have said for years that most adults don't know as much about their Faith as the children making their First Communion because the last instruction they had was at their First Communion. I happened to be baptized later in life at 46, that said if I was baptized at birth or in the years I wasn't fully aware of my choices I don't think it would of made a impact on me as it did being baptized when I decided to be baptized at 46, being baptized on your own accord has more meaning at least it did for me. Bishop, you were just plain ol' Father Barron when my son 'suggested'--well, it was more than that, but said with loving and compelling authority--that I listen to you on RU-vid and just like that, I came back to the Church through the incredible gift of the Sacrament of Penance and the welcome of a parish that (a) had a parking lot and (b) somehow seemed to have a congregation that didn't chatter in the pews until the entrance procession. And I've listened to you ever since because yeah, the initial high fades a bit; my parish has not disappointed but now I'm sitting in the same pew with sons and their wives and a bunch of tiny noisy little grandkids, so further reflection on the gospel of day is welcome and needed. God bless you, Bishop.

Dear Bishop Barron, thank you for the beautiful and heartfelt message of today. There is a passage in Matthew Chapter 7 that may be necessary to stress as a warning for people who do not understand the Word of God, which in my beleaguered country has been dramatically happening a couple of months ago: "26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice, will be like the foolish man who built his house on sand: 27 the rain fell, the torrents came, the winds blew, broke against that house and it fell, and was great his ruin." When I heard this today in Mass, my reaction was that I feel so weak. I am the seed the falls on rock and in the thorn (the ANXIETY, the other hard life issues I am dealing with is taking up my thoughts, a legal case at the moment for the last 4 years). Also, I don't know how to have the Words, how do I know who to tell the Word to? There are 3 persons in my life who I am passionate about getting them to choose God. 2 of them won't have it. I don't mind losing my relationship with them by telling them what I believe they need to know. That being a 'nice' person doesn't cut it. You have to choose God. I don't possess the gifts of the spirit either it seems. Some say I do and other days it just doesn't seem like that. I don't really know how to deliver the Word with the Love Jesus tells us to, in the way that will have the right outcome. I think it would turn them away if anything. Example, it appears many assume that just being a good person, that God being merciful will accept them into heaven. My understanding is a murderer who believes Jesus is their Savior, who repents, who CHOOSES God has a better chance to get into heaven than the a 'nice' person who always does the right thing but never chooses God. Of course I would not say, "choose God or go to hell." But sometimes, in my passion it could come across that way. I will pray for the words, the spirit of Love, the gifts of the spirit and how to explain the importance of being in relationship WITH God.

As a 19 year old i read the bible completely with hope but quickly it became a completely incredulous experience. In parts ridiculous, the facts/thruth of the gospels and purpose seemed manipulative and invented. There was no roman census sending joseph to Bethlehem, its pure invention, why do that? To say the bible is gods word has absolutely no evidence at all, in fact it makes the entity god look abit ridiculous. Sad really but christianity will die out, eventually as has nearly every religion before it.

Don't be so fast to throw it all out. Great insight on the ridiculousness of it, because it shows the absurd views people had of God and who they thought God was. Jesus is the clearest depiction of who God is, especially Him on the Cross. Taking all wrong onto himself to make good out of it. God can't be a dictator because that would be against love, disregarding choice and also be death. Concentrate on 1 Cor 13 and just read it over and over. Then when reading other passages think about how does this fit with those verses and Christ crucified. Look at the cultures and what people believed at those times and how God turned it upside down. Relationship is the key to unlock the Bible. This is all love wants, to connect and interact with another, with all.

Do places of Christian retreat still exist, and if so, where are they? I feel I need to completely withdraw from the world to a place of prayer, silence and devotion for maybe a week.

The Catholic church offers retreats people have experienced amazing healing and conversation there, contact your diocese in your states, be careful the church is full with lots of wolves and they are ultra liberals Those types will try to turn you down. look for a holy retreat

Search for a monastery and ask them if you can go visiting for a retreat. There are no comercial thing to do that on the church so you'll have to take the trouble of calling and asking and searching on the internet. But yes they do exist.

There are retreat houses but you have to be careful which one you choose. If you want to tell me the area you live perhaps I can recommend one.

SUCH a powerful homily, Bishop Barron (although I could say that about ALL of your homilies! LOL) My 5 siblings and I were all raised in the church, though sadly only I am still practicing. (And by extension their adult children and grandchildren also have no connection to the church. 😢) I will send the link to this video to them and continue to pray daily that they and their extended families will turn (back) to the faith. Thanks so much for using your exceptional God-given gifts to assist me and so many others who pray for the return of their personal beloved prodigals. God bless you!

@oliveralexandre3607 my siblings are all great, reasonable people who still believe in God but have just fallen away from the faith, like so many other lapsed Catholics. They know my faith is strong and are not put off by my occasionally sharing something I feel is especially rich and share-worthy. In fact, I think they're somewhat envious of my faith and are glad to hear from someone like Bishop Barron who makes God's Word so understandable. My prayer is that they would want what I have, and Bishop Barron's ministry exists for that purpose. If any one of them ever said, please don't share with me, I'd stop. But there are SO many hungry hearts right outside our own doors, including in our own families. So if we who believe don't take the occasional initiative and share these wonderful teachings from Bishop Barron with them, who will? Jesus said, Go and make disciples, and that includes us; Bishop Barron, as wonderful as his teachings are, cannot reach everyone. We have to do our part, too, to help him reach the unchurched by occasionally sharing and not being afraid to do so. God bless you!

A wonderful sermon again! The word of God is not only creative but super influential. After accepting Christ I was changed as a person, treating people differently and thinking differently. Life with Christ has been totally different, from the way I act and treat people to my everyday thoughts that flow through my mind. God changes you for sure. The way you talked about it makes me feel better, because a lot of people make fun of me for my ideals or tell me I need to be less forgiving but this is just confirmation that I am doing the correct thing. I like to forgive a lot of people and take care of people even if they don't do it in return. It's great to know I'm on the right track, I love the line God's word is creative. As for the parabole I’ve experienced it firsthand. A lot of my friends have heard only segments of the word or will visit church a few times then get uninterested. Hoping to bring a few of them back to church when I get the chance. There must be a deeper note that will strike eventually. It’s hard to say but yes some churches are better than others and especially catering towards younger generations would help too. I'm excited to hopefully bring a few friends back to the right walk of life.

For the Hebrews the word of God is something that God does as well and something that God says ... Where God was concerned. This is a fairly important understanding to achieve even as far as the New testament is concerned ... It is best expressed. The writers of scripture used many possible images as they could in order to get that insight across to the people to whom the scriptures were read. Genesis 1:3 God said let there be light and there was light. The purpose of writing this way is to indicate that when God speaks his word is effective his word appears not only as word in our understanding of it but also appears as event.

The Word of God. The living Word. The life giving Word. The Word that shapes and molds us in God's servants. Daily Catholic Devotions has readings and interpretation of the Gospel. Prayer especially saying the rosary every day grounds us in the Word. Being blessed by Bishop Barron, Fr. Mike Schmitz, Sr. Mary Grace and so many others who open the Word to us. We are truly blessed. Thank you most Holy Trinity.

I feel the parable of the sower personally. Raised in a non-practicing family. I received some word but little teaching. Then hardship and the world took over and I was like the seed in the thorns. Pleasure was the way to replace an absent father, the way to fill the lack of affection of my youth. I never realized what happiness was until I cleared away the brush and finally saw the light. The word has been filling my emptiness with HIS love. Thanks in no small part to Your Excellency. ❤️

Thank you for the CREATIVE POWER of GOD's WORD as spoken through you, Bishop Barron. It reminds me of Samuel, of the Hebrew Scriptures, who responds to the LORD on the 4th call, "Speak; for thy servant heareth." God bless you, Bishop Barron, as you weekly scatter the seed of God's word to the culture through your weekly sermons. As I listened to today's sermon I thought about one plant from my garden that was started from seed but ran out of room to place in the garden. While all the other plants are flourishing from daily needs being met, this little guy, though getting water, is just barely surviving. I failed this plant greatly by not sharing it with another gardener to be properly developed.

Divine word in the intelligibility of nature? But, if we evolved in this world, to survive in this world, and we have outwitted the other predators, then why would our minds not also be able to cope with other patterns in nature? A predator is a pattern (visual, behavioral, smell, touch, sound). At any rate, natural theology isn't enough to convert us. We either believe Moses and Jesus or we don't.

When I was 8 years old in church I had a vision of 4 men in a square formation walking down the church isle. These are the four formations for seminarians. I pray the rapture is soon. Jesus save me. Lord please change my life for the better. Thank you Jesus for never leaving my side, because everyone else has! Jesus! I PRAISE you! Even as I’m struggling providing for my children. I feel like a failure but I will keep faith because faith is all I have left! Since covid I can’t seem to get back on my feet. I lost my job for declining the vaccine. I declined due to my health conditions. I suffer from lupus, and heart disease. I’m now waitressing and so thankful to be working but I’m not making nearly enough to get by. I have two beautiful boys both are autistic. I’m overwhelmed because they require so much from me. Every month is a struggle to not end up on the streets with my boys. I’m struggling buying groceries I’m so discouraged. Jesus hear my cries I’m so tired. But I have faith! Jesus hear my prayers. ❤
