This song stands alone. Every other song comes afterwards. Thinking it's just for lent is a mistake. This song should be sung whenever you feel a bit far away from God. Whenever you fall, feel dejected, assaulted, lonely, mourning, lost and I mean when you seek who to call father. Sing it! Father, let me call Thee father! I love it a lot. God bless you guys ❤ Covid 19 can't stand your angelic voices. The pit of hell is where it belongs and must exist🙏🏾
I went to St. Augustine's college in Ghana to be honest the only reason i like being at Mass is to hear the choir sing, and if this hymn comes up, it's a jam. Soul music.
This hymn always makes me cry. God's love for a wretch like me is beyond me. Thank you Lord for the cross, for taking my sins, my shame, my rejection upon yourself. My King my Lord I worship you. May your blood save every soul you died for, let hell be empty, may the blood go to work right now in the lives of every man. Glory to your name my King my redeemer I worship you and you alone.
I am so joyful and proud to hear an African choir sing this magnificent rendition of my childhood favorite song. This takes me back to the Lenten Season. God bless you all for blessing us with your great voices.
I’m here to beg you to plead my case lord. I feel your presence more and more daily and know your kingdom is almost here. No matter what, let me be among your choosen
Awesome. In Prempeh College too it was one of our favourites. It easily calmed down everyone in the auditorium. Beautifully done by HC. Keep soaring guys.

Beautiful sacred hymn composed by Giovanni Battista Pergolosi, an Italian composer who died at the tender age of 26 in 1736. What an amazing hymn composed in such a short short life.

Christiana, God bless you. I hope one day you will know more about us, The Catholic Church founded by our Lord Jesus. The Greek name "Katahoulos" or "Catholic" in English, for the Church, began being used in the latter part of the 2nd. Century as it was spreading throughout the known world according to the command from Jesus to the Apostles to go to all corners of the world, as shown in: ▪︎MATTHEW 28:19 19. GO therefore and make disciples of ALL NATIONS ("Katahoulos"), baptizing them In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Would Jesus abandon His Church? Never! He wouldn't go against His solemn promise, clearly expressed in: ▪︎MATTHEW 28:20 20. and teaching them to obey EVERYTHING that I have commanded you. And remember, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, TO THE END OF THE AGE.” "To the end of the age". Which is until the end of the world. God bless.
Beautiful & heartfelt singing by the choir! Such an emotional hymn to God crying out forgiveness of our sins, brings back nostalgia when it was sung in the church when l was a kid!
You should listen to the Arabic version sung by Fairuz titled “Wa Habibi”. It’s hauntingly beautiful and the lyrics are much more emotional than any English-language hymn I’ve heard. It’s played every Good Friday across the Middle East.
Christian Weynants
In this all nations church Cardiff I think we have that song God of marcy and compassion we know this song it's feel me holy spirit inside me this choir it makes me peace and Joy and it makes me to go to school in Woodlands high school🏫💒I love this choir singing
God gives mercy and compassion to anyone He wants to, He says that in the bible but anyone and everyone has access to Gods mercy and compassion. Jesus demonstrated that and does to this very day in spirit.
This is a favourite recording of this beautiful hymn. From time to time view it again and after playing it again for a vigil mass this evening I decided to listen to your singing again. I wish I had an organ prelude on this beautiful Pergolesi melody but have never found one.
A short note on the history of this song, from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giovanni_Battista_Pergolesi: «The Lenten Hymn ‘God of Mercy and Compassion’ by Redemptorist priest Edmund Vaughan is most commonly set to a tune adapted by Pergolesi.» (please note spelling!) And thanks to HC Ghana for bringing this hymn to my notice (beautifully performed.)
