I think the way Odin died was actually worse than most people imagine. His soul wasn't just removed from his body. His soul was completely destroyed and did not go to any afterlife like Valhalla or the Soul Light. Perfect justice for Sindri considering the same thing happened to Brok
@@roxhershala6106nah odin also stated that even when he dies he doesn’t go to a valhalla. thats part of the reason why he tries so hard to be one step ahead.
@@roxhershala6106 literally non of the gods go there in this universe, stated by multiple gods and different times in different context, all say they do not go to Valhalla
“He almost convinced me!” “Had me believing things could change!” Literally the sound of a man who has given up on everything and made me really sympathize for this version of Thor
Yeah you could hear the pain and despair in his words Part of him REALLY wanted to believe in Atreus, if Odin hadn't killed him he would have had the chance to fully become the person Sif and Thrud always believed him to be.
I mean a pokeball can catch a literal God Arceus that created pokemon verse, so dont underestimate that ball. I bet a master ball can catch Kratos instantly.
I love how Atreus is like the opposite of Kratos in this scene. At the end of the battle Atreus attempts to reason with Odin and when that fails he mercy kills him. Kratos was beyond reasoning with Zeus and gave Zeus one of the most brutal deaths in the series.
@@jmgonzales7701 I know. I feel like Odin also deserved a brutal death but the series has kinda moved on from brutality and even when the series gets brutal it’s seen as a bad moment unlike the older games where the main goal was to kill things in the most brutal way possible
@@charlespackowski6620 i mean that wasnt the problem its how these gods were portrayed they lost that mystical and intimidating factor and design. Odin looked like an average old guy and not a force of nature, if he wasn't that powerful he wouldn't have scared me. Zeus in old trilogy was intimidating as well.
@@jmgonzales7701 I feel like Zeus is more intimidating than Odin because of many reasons. His design is more visually intimidating and he shows greater power than Odin(ex: banishing the titans to Tartarus and one shotting Gaia and Kratos at the beginning of GOW3) however I think Odin is a better and more complex villain
In all seriousness tho, is there really anything that needs to be elaborated here? The man is already torn after he losing his brother because of Odin, what’s to stop him from getting revenge on Odin when he feels as if he has nothing else left?
This story is absolutely amazing. When it came out I could not stop acting it. I totally get why Elden Ring won for game of the year but God of War will always have a special place in my heart. Just for the sheer story telling alone
Agreed even the side question are interwoven with their own stories. The world building and lore in this are amazing. I can see the pacing issues some brings up with the main story but it didn’t bother me and as far as comparing to the 2018 I don’t see how this one would ever touch that story simply cause ragnarok has more characters and higher stakes to set up where 2018 is more a personal focused story. Both games are amazing and as one who has played all the god of was since the first the ending of this hit hard when it came to Kratos character. Amazing game. Then again I’ll admit I’m a bit biased for games like these but I also voted for elden ring as game of the year for what it brought with its world.
What I liked about this was the bond between Atreus and Odin... the fact that Atreus choose to show Odin kindness before his passing and Odin used the last of his strength to pass away in the comfort of Atreus’ arms. True bros indeed... in another life.. Odin and Atreus would’ve gotten along very well... and so would’ve Kratos and Thor. This was also important for Atreus, Kratos and Freya... Atreus took no joy in doing what he did, Kratos tried to avoid war and learnt to feel for the other victims on a battlefield like the Midgardians (humans), Freya's anger towards Odin turned into pity... seeing him reveal his true self to Atreus, it's when she realized that Odin is technically the first victim of his obsessive madness. It helped her move on and make peace with Odin... in a manner of speaking. Which is why she did not exact vengeance on Odin's soul in the marble... she felt sorry for him now.
Odin did not 'use the last of his strength to pass away in the comfort of Atreus' arms.' He passed out the minute Loki started whispering his soul away. That feminine stuff you've added is incredibly disturbing. How is this a top comment when it's not even true? What is wrong with people?
The only thing was I took a slightly different message. Atreus wanted to spare Odin, but the fact that "he needed to see what happened next" and his inability to stop made them incompatible. He understood why Odin acted the way he did, but in becoming a man was learning when someone is beyond reason and when to stop them. Not out of anger or hate, but a rational decision carried out as the last choice. Thor had some elements of cunning and compassion. Still, he was utterly incapable of seeing the bigger picture due to his wraith and role, and we got an insight into him long before we met him because he viciously beat up his own son for retreating. Odin likewise saw only what he wanted and was ignorant of the consequence of his own actions. It wasn't kinship. It was the gentle euthanization of a madman who had long lost his way.
@@lordbiscuitthetossable5352 I agree with everything you said, except I think the idea that 'odin used the last of his strength to pass out in atreus's arms' is both untrue and homosexual. Which was said by the comment we are replying to. Is the Low T epidemic that it gets 471 likes?
@@lordbiscuitthetossable5352 I agree it was gentle euthanization... what I was pointing out is why the gentle euthanization was more important for Atreus, Kratos and Freya. And Odin, instead of collapsing onto the ground, nudged himself to fall into Atreus' arms... and no one took joy in euthanizing him. They felt sorry for him and Atreus even shoed some kindness as he passed away. What we need to keep in mind is given his behaviour... Odin is self absorbed.... but not a narcissist. In addition to regular self harming for knowledge, which is something no narcissist does... he has a very "favourite person" and "subhuman person" view on people... The love he shows to his favourite person is genuine... which is why Freya and Mimir were so shocked when Odin turned on them... and he turned on them the moment they did not live up to the idealistic image he has of them. Keep in mind, he loved Freya and made gifts for her everyday... each more heartfelt than the last... and he even decided to hire Mimir as his best friend and advisor after Mimir pranked him with enchanted hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Damn, Sindri really pulled up, snatched Odin and killed him Some may not be happy it wasn't Kratos, Atreus or Freya but I find it fitting, considering Odin himself killed Brok
I get a laugh when I imagine Odin getting nervouse in the marble when Freya picked it up, then having a sigh of relief when she goes into her "I'm bigger than this" speech, then suddenly Sindri picks him up and he's panicking like "NO! WAIT! STOP! AAAH..."
According to the prophecy if Kratos does not change his ways and fights Thor with the intention to kill him, then he will lose and die in Atreus' arms. His previous dialogues repeatedly hinted at this, how he thought it was morally justified to kill what has the intention to kill him. Then Thor and Odin will win. But he changed his ways and he fought with the intention to subdue and get through to Thor. At that moment he beat the prophecy.
@@eduardmanecuta5350 Well the prophecy of tattoo man with a Scar on his face destroying Olympus was true. Why couldn't Kratos or the gods prevent that?
Odin would've lost. I think that's why he killed Thor. He knew well that fighting Thor was going to be a losing game no matter what so a disobedient Thor needed to die.
I really wish Thor would have lived. The man would have been able to rebuild and repair and become a respected God once again. The Giants would never forgive him, but he he might have been able to atone
what I liked most about this fight was the savagery between them, it came at a certain point in the battle where strategies were no longer used and only brutality became the only rule to be followed confrontation more than epic this one, I loved it, better fight in the game to me👊👊👏👏🤘☠❤
@@mcmorales750 Marvel's Thor is not the actual Thor, they are way too different. And MCU's Thor is a joke, literally his movies are jokes, full of jokes and bad writting. This is the best Thor representation we have seen in a game.
That wud have been overkill yo. The two most absolutely powerful warrior Gods teaming up, there wud have been no physical threat or adversary who could match em both at once. Just one is enough to level the entire verse man
@@legend1.171 oh come on kratos have the ability to kill Kronos so who is Thor for kratos lol don't forget his young brutal version if young kratos was there so I don't have words what he can done with thor
@@mubeenshahbaz1041 i know i know, but that really doesn't matter when you die right? That strength, that mightfullness didn't help against thor in that fight.
@@mubeenshahbaz1041 but Kratos is stronger, but Kratos is better, did anyone talk about who is stronger? Great battle he said, Some Kratos fans are really annoying even though Kratos himself is badass character
@Hellscream tbh, I think that makes him more perfect? he isn't his younger self anymore, an old man/god who has gonna through alot and had alot of regrets, he even went all the way to the north bec he was tired of fighting and killing but now he has a child and gotta act as a father, he can't be as reckless as he once were, he probably want to avoid the mistakes he made before so yeah while gow 2 & 3 of kratos was amazing, I prefer this version of him.
@@davidmutchler2403 I can't say for sure but from the direction of story writers and I am only guessing, All gods age older overtime, some can be slower than others like Odin as an example but that's how it is and Kratos is no different, he aged overtime and writers want to show us how he has changed as he aged and grown to be a father, at least isn't that how it seems to be? I never really played doom honestly, I wanted to but idk but from google it seems doomguy is only a young guy bet. 20-30 so how can you compared him to someone who lived for ages? a god at that.
There are too many mistakes in Odin's Prophecy he spoke off Its like his "prophecy" are just made up stories he wanted to make and play the role And Kratos made it reality.
It was never about prophecies... he obsessively sought “answers” to questions bigger than his rule over creation. He wanted to know the secrets of all of creation, life, death, time, space etc... That is why Atreus has lived for so long... only Atreus can deliver these answers to him.
thats the point of it all, prophecies and fate is bullshit, thats why kratos immediately went and got a weapon capable of easily dispatching heimdall, if avoiding a prophecy will inevitably cause it to happen then going directly for it will ultimately cause it to go wrong.
if it were young kratos, it would be a massacre mimir would constantly reprimand him to stop, kratos wouldn't reason with thor, he'll just continue bashing his head or worse.
@@cromugus he's saying that Thor is like a young Kratos who never found purpose outside of destroying, tons of parallels, Odin even kills Thor the same way Zeus killed Kratos.
@@cromugus also Kratos is a demigod by birth even without his powers from Greece he can still contend with powerful gods (Baldr is the only one that actually put up a real problem for Kratos until his curse broke) aside from Thor who I think was equal in power but not in skill and discipline. Kratos I think felt bad for Thor as he saw himself in him tho he doesn't show emotion well due to Spartan upbringing hardening him.
That's basically what it is. You see that in their dialogue: "Don't you know... what I've done?!" "YES!" - Notice how he says it without missing a beat, as if the answer is obvious. Because to Kratos, it is - he definitely sees his younger self in Thor. Being used as a weapon, as a destroyer, in Thor's own words. And he knows he can be better, which leads into the next thing he says: "But what will you do now?" That's the most important thing here - not what was, but what is and what can be. Kratos has lived it.
@Christopher My money is on Odin. It took Freya, Atreus, and Kratos to beat him. Also, didn't they say this is the strongest kratos ever been? Shouldn't be any contest.
I can't imagine the look of disgust on Kratos' face when Odin kills Thor. And then hitting Thrud right after lmao. Also where tf did Mjolnir go? Did it fly along with Thrud? Lol.
@@WebHead1996-1it seems out of character for all, but imagine if Odin pulled a "fine, I'll do it myself." And attacked Kratos instead, but Thor stood in front of Kratos and sacrificed himself, probably would've gotten Athena flashbacks lol. I mean, I highly doubt Kratos would've died that easily tho for Thor to actually do that.
At least Kratos has the excuse of not being able to think straight when he killed his child. It was an accident. How much does he hate himself for that? However, Odin did it on purpose. He made the conscious DECISION to murder his child.
When Odin arrived he legit asked Thor why Kratos is not dead yet like bruh you expect Thor to kill the world serpent and Kratos too on the same day 😂 I wonder what Odin was doing until this point cause he definetly wasn't around Freya dealing with them and Surtr
damn, i really wish Odin could have experienced the spartan rage and traumatized him before he died.. like now he knows what Zeus was dealing with. HAHA
Damn i felt sorry for Thor, he was my favorite god in this saga. A fucking beast, you don't know how bad i want to know what Heindall saw when thor faced him.
Sorry? You couldn't tell the game designers were crapping on him the whole entire game? (Plus previous game too but whatever) From his looks, to personality, and then everything in between. I kind figured they kill him off -- he also only ever got "changed" in merely the last few little seconds of the whole time we've seen him in this series as well (unlike Sif for example who is already "changed" from the first time she is encountered in the game despite Mimir's description of her pre-Thrud)...
Losing your significant other will do that to you. And also having the right woman by your side can make you see things you were blinded too. So yes it's crazy how these last two games are. So much emotion. I love you
The parallels are incredible but unlike Zeus, Odin doesn't have the luxury of outside "corruption" like Pandoras box. He's completely in his functions and chooses to be a selfish, manipulative, cruel, evil god. It's actually eerily....human?
@@multiverse_media2023 Yup. At least Thor and Kratos do a fair fight with their strength and anything fairly with Honour and now Redemption, and are really similar in common. But Odin this version plays a dirty means trick as much as possible to win because he's physically weaker than both Thor and Kratos.....
@@กฤษดากลิ่นพิกุล I legitimately don't know about that. On one hand, he plays dirty and cowardly, but in a way of trickery and sorcery, so that goes along with his character. On the other hand, he lifted Mjolnir with one hand and smacks around powerhouses like Kratos while being jumped by Loki and Freya. Mjolnir in mythology was supposed to be so heavy that only Thor could wield it. So there's that. I still enjoy Odin in this game tho, more cunning and less warrior-like. Especially since he's hanged/killed himself before which is something that's frowned upon by Viking ideals.
This is the best 24 minute clip on the internet and 4K thanks for this my friend I'm actually playing this game right now I can't wait for this match I thought the first one with Thor was rough
Damn there were a bunch of missed opportunities to make this epic. Could of fought Thor with Jörmungandr before he knocks him back in time. Could of had Odin put the mask on and fought him in an “all knowing” form with surtur as the backdrop, Instead of just breaking it. Could of fought all throughout asgard & on top of the wall instead of just his house. Idk everything was amazing until the very last fight 😔
17:38 I kinda feel bad for Odin here. I have no idea how much those ravens meant to him, or if they are even real living creatures, but still that “NO!” You could feel the pain.
@@viloetmarsh3467 memory is probably the most enduring things that exist since if you are remembered, you technically live forever. Freya killing (likely) Munin is symbolic as nobody will remember Odin to be the bestest allfather evar and will be damned to be the most evil mofo to ever exist in the nine realms. damnatio memoriae/unpersoning is a fairly tame thing
Hope they revive Thor if it's possible. Would be cool to fight with him more in this game. They probably will add a DLC where you can atleast play as him if he is to be revived.
@@jmgonzales7701 theres plenty of other mythologies, i believe it was mentioned there was plans to go to egypt or somewhere else. dont know how accurate that is anymore but i do know Ragnarok is the definite end of Kratos' adventure in Norse mythology
Draupnir spear to represent his Spartan heritage and his pledge to protecting the Nine Realms, the Blades of Chaos as reminders of his divine heritage and as symbols of his overcoming his suffering, and the Leviathan Axe and Guardian Shield to represent his new life in the Nine Realms and as his mementos of Faye, the one who inspired the changes in his mindset, to be a protector, leader and steward, besides being a warrior. Kratos has, literally and metaphorically, come a long way.
I freaked out for a second when Sindri took it. I thought he was going to do something crazy right up until I saw him place Odin's soul on a hard flat surface, every fiber in me was screaming YES.
The family smackdown Freya, Atreus and Kratos did was just awesome Odin was like: "I fucked up big time" Edit: Now there's scammers pretending to be Markiplier and MK Ice and Fire in the comment section (I even got one from someone pretending to be ZanarAethetics a few weeks prior and even that is bullshit) I'm pretty sure their "dm me for prizes" is complete BS to be honest
They are phishing for information they can use to steal your identity and sell it on the black market. Oh, you lost money in a scam? Another scammer will contact you and pretend they can get it back, for only a bit more of your money.
I can see why so many people hate Odin. I didn´t play the game but seeing how he kills Thor because he didn´t follow his orders in front of his daughter and then blames Kratos shows how Odin is a mad man.
