God Of War TV Series: Who Will Play Kratos 

I don't think John's played GOW Ragnarok. Kratos is very well spoken and is a leader of men and warriors.

“Kratos doesn’t talk much” tells me all I need to know about how much John knows about these games. Kratos talks plenty dude.

We need a younger kratos. The Norse series works so well because it builds on Kratos tragic Greek story. We need to see the ghost of Sparta first

I would also argue Kratos talks a lot more than maybe you’re giving him credit for. Some of the monologue work Chris judge did was so good, and so freaking emotional in the last two games, I just feel that Chris judges depiction and interpretation of Kratos… IS Kratos.

it depends on which Kratos they are adapting.... If it is Kratos(Greek) it does require someone younger, if it pd Kratos(Norse), then they would have to go with the older actor that can act, Kratos(Greek) doesn't necessarily need someone that can act as they need to be really aggressive.

Chris Judge didn't just do the voice he did the motion capture for the cutscenes so he can perform physical drama. The problem is now. I'm not sure if he can perform the action fights. Part of the reason Ragnarok was delayed was that Judge had hip and back surgery, and I think he lost a lot of muscle mass. He doesn't seem as physically imposing as he once did. If he is able to perform physically and get his mass back, Chris Judge is perfect.

I think Campea is wrong, Christopher Judge acts this part in motion capture, every scene you see in the game is him acting out the part in mocap

If it's going to be old kratos, then i dont see why Kratos' voice actor cant play him in the live action. He has the height, build, voice, and range.

Gotta say man, you guys are really undermining the incredible performance of Judge, by minimising it down to a single word, which minimises the art itself. His performance was so big it rivalled Roger Clark’s (Arthur Morgan) performance. Whoever takes the role on NEEDS to be able to act, they need to be able to carry a scene alone and understand the role requires more from them than just “boy” Still love you guys though😢

Kratos doesn’t talk much (in the Nordic series) but he does some pretty subtle, and very potent acting through some pretty nuanced moments. Triple H would have to be better able to carry some of the more emotional beats attributed to Kratos.

Has to be Jason Momoa! He looks like him overall! And could act like him with some practice! I cant be Judge.. he just dosnt look enough like him. He is the voice (of the new one) but... he just dosnt have the look.. his jaw is to wide... unless they are going for old bearded Kratos and they do some crazy makeup stuff.. Is he as athletic as Jason? I feel Jason could train up and be him physically to a T and learn the voice stuff easy! Also Mamoa could keep playing him for years! And even do the Greek era scenes easy.. all the others are to past it or cant pull of the clean shaven version at all.

You're assuming they're going straight to the Ragnarok storyline but they can just as easily be doing the Spartan storyline and that would require a younger actor.

If he doesn’t play He-Man or Batman, then Alan Ritchson could be great for Kratos. He also has history with Amazon through Reacher.

Kratos isn't the most talkative guy in the world but he does have a lot of lines. Especially in Ragnarok where he talks often. And he has a lot of powerful lines too that requires someone with the acting talent to properly convey. Triple H does not have that ability from what I've seen, and a Director is not gonna fix that in time. He would need more roles under his belt. And if the Director tries to put him in there with VERY limited to no talking then I'm gonna have a huge problem with it. Just because he looks like Kratos and can make a frown doesn't mean he's right for the part. You're also looking at it from the perspective of someone who played the games. If you were to condense the amount of hours you put in the video game, which just the main story alone is like 25-30 hours, into a 10 episode long season with an hour runtime each, then a lot of that downtime where you don't hear Kratos speak is gonna be cut. Dave Bautista's situation as Drax doesn't quite work for this scenario in my opinion. James Gunn capitalized on his lack of acting talent by giving him a role where his character is kinda dumb and funny. You don't need to act very well if your lines are written to be one note and funny. And when the audience is laughing, they're not paying attention to how well you can act. Kratos's situation is a lil different. He doesn't come across as dumb in any kinda way and he's not funny. He's a very intense individual even when he's not talking, and when he does talk, you listen. Everyone's gonna be looking at the acting ability then. J.K. Simmons does have a good voice, although maybe not for Kratos, and he is a good actor but he's too old for the role and he's too small. He got ripped before yes but he doesn't have the actual size for a Kratos. Kratos also shouldn't have the appearance of a 60-70 year old. He's better suited for Odin, which would be great. With all that being said, I do recognize that Kratos is kinda hard to cast. Its hard to find an actor to check all those boxes so somethings gonna have to get sacrificed more than likely. Personally, I think an underrated option would be Michael Jai White. He's not the best actor in the world but he does have roles under his belt and has more experience than Triple H. In fact, I don't think Jason Mamoa or any of the former wrestlers are better actors than MJW, and if people are considering them then they should consider him as well. He has the size and physicality for a Kratos, knows martial arts, has a great voice, and can rock a bald head and beard. We know he can play the cool, dangerous, and silent type too. The only question would be if he could pull off the emotional scenes, but I'd give him a chance. Especially under a good Director as John says.

Christopher Judge does the motion capture acting and voice acting for Kratos. I would love for him to do it, but I think he's said his body isn't really up to the task of any real action anymore (has had multiple knee and maybe back surgeries if I'm not mistaken?). Speaking of hair, I think he'd be happy not to have to go bald again lol. Indeed, he played Teal'c from Stargate SG-1. Stargate Atlantis was Jason Mamoa. Love to see both of those names on there. Stargate represent! I would love for them to do the cameo thing The Last of Us did and find a spot/role for Christopher Judge in there somehow.

I don't mind Chris Judge. But if he's not on the table, I'm torn between Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa, mostly because they could pull off Kratos' voice, and I've seen what they look like with beards. Jason may be too young though, but if they start the storyline from the beginning, it could work.

If Jason Mamoa shaved his head he would literally look exactly like him. Also, Kratos shouldn’t be old. He’s only old now after like 7 games. Lol. He looked much younger get in the early games and if the movie is successful I would imagine they would want to make many more. Getting someone too old doesn’t make sense for the future.

Great topic, John! This seems like a tough role to fill. 1. The voice has to be right! Kratos was voiced by two incredible voice actors, TC Carson and Christopher Judge. They have bassy, smooth and melodic voices (not just gravel or rough) but thick. So when Kratos only says 2 or 3 word sentences, it feels like enough was said. But sadly the actual voice actors of Kratos won't pass the eye test. Too much alteration via makeup and prosthetics and Kratos adaptation goes down the drain. The audience won't be convinced. 2. He has to be yoked! Triple H is big dude but his muscles have that "deflated" and "weathered" look that are typical when coming off of years of PEDs. And I honestly don't think he has the time or energy to be a main character for the duration of this series. Dwayne Johnson fits the physique type but he has a tenor voice. His voice just simply isn't "peanut buttery" enough. Mamoa might be able to pull it off with some voice training. Mamoa seems to playful and silly sometimes but I could be wrong. DUDE... Batista in early 2000's would have been PERFECT. Bautista's mother is Greek and with his bald head and gigantic frame...he would have passed the eye test 10/10. Maybe Dave can still get in that kind of shape again??? Could he maintain it for the duration of this series? Not sure. Ultimately, this series will succeed or fail based off who plays Kratos.

I'm confused, Chris Judge does not only voice Kratos but he also ACTS him out doing the mocap. They moved away from TC Carson because they did wanted someone who embodies Kratos. In terms of choice it's a literal no brainer.

Has John played any of the Greek mythology GOW games? Kratos is much younger in those games and there's tons of dialogue. I don't think you do a TV series and skip all the Greek history of the games.

Bigger question, which game should Amazon really start with? Triple H looks most like Kratos. But I think Momoa would have a little bit of both look and voice, and he can act as a stoic quiet leader proven in GOT.

I am sorry but i have to say big negative on hHh being kratos. I don't recall ever seeing hin in a role outside wrestling where i went damnn that was a good preformance. Kratos and his story has some serious dramatic crap happen. More so in the newer ones but also back to the OG. I am okay with a lesser known better actor taking the role. Take a solid actor and give him whatever they gave zac effron for iron claw and you got a start. For the love of god please whoever writes and/or director stick to the games and don't butcher the games together (looking at you raccoon city).

Sorry to be that guy John, but you are massively incorrect about Kratos not talking much. While in GOW 2018 he is closed off at the beginning and kind of only speaks when necessary, he eventually opens up and converses a lot with all of the characters and when you eventually get to Ragnarok he's never done speaking. This is a bad take. Even in the older games before 2018 that man screamed the greek realm apart, he's always been a vocal character. I can only assume you've maybe only watched the cut scenes of GOW 2018? Even still he speaks quite a bit, but I'd recommend you actually play the games and learn the character, it only does him more justice. For me Chris Judge really elevated this character to another level with his performance, from the physical movement you describe to the delivery of his lines, his performance was excellent acting across the board. My pick personally is Dave Bautista, but actually Kris's shout for Ryan Hurst I'm not against as I'm a huge fan and would be interested in seeing his take on Kratos after playing Thor in the Ragnarok 🤔

If you take God of War seriously, you have several seasons starting from the first God of War to the modern God of Wars. It's an epic story that has to be violent. I personally think the Rock would be perfect, but the Rock wouldn't play kratos, he would play the Rock playing Kratos. But if the Rock truly gave into playing Kratos and gave up on making something for kids, he would totally kill this role and would be the role he would be remembered for.

It takes a certain level of acting ability to act without speaking. Kratos’ character isn’t just him saying “Boy”, there’s a lot of subtlety and physicality to Kratos and the way that he delivers certain lines that I think you’re overlooking here. That said I think Triple H lacks that ability. If you want a good example of this look at Robert Pattinson in the Batman.

Batista could pull it off. He is way better than all of his WWE stars turned actor counterparts. But knowing that we are in modern times it will probably be a Black thin woman playing Kratos.

Honestly id like to see Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson play an aged Kratos, Hes got the physique and the build, he can do a deep voice pretty easily, and hes young enough to be around for a long while, i think he'd be a pretty good candidate

None of those wrestling names are remotely good enough actors. Kratos may not use two words when one will do, but Judge emotes quite well with the dialogue he does have.

Jason Mamoa would be great and I want young Kratos not the old father version. Then Kratos personality plays to Mamoa's strengths. He's perfect!

The last thing we need is more wrestlers or overrated famous actors like Vin diesel playing these characters and definitely no more Dwayne the rock sticking his nose in more movies we need more unknown faces playing these characters in live action.
