Once on holiday I visited the Sagrada Familia and the Casa Milo, although La Sagrada Familia is by far my most favourite piece of architecture on earth, Casa Milo was also a great visit with its interesting roof design made out of bricks. I would love a video of yours concerning this other creation of Antoni Gaudi. If you haven´t been there already, go see it, I can recommend it very much :)
The cathedral is indeed unique. From afar, it looks like just another Gothic architecture. But up close, it looks like organic being.. like.. underwater reefs.
It’s crazy to think They started building the Sagrada Familia in the late 1800’s. Gaudi was way ahead of his time, this building looks like it could’ve started construction in 2100. It’s amazing what faith can compel humanity to create.
I visited La Sagrada Familia in 2018. Everyone should put this on their bucket list. It changes you. Also, Barcelona is just an amazing city and all Gaudi's work there is worth seeing in person.
@@LloydChristmasAspen I recently visited as well in September it is hands down the most well designed city I've ever been too. How connected everything is to all citizens is incredible, and how beautiful the architecture is on top of that is astounding. The old gothic quarter mixed with the modern grid blocks and classic facades makes for a unique experience. Plus the pharmacies there don't cost an arm and a leg unlike back in the states 🥲
One doesn't need to be Christian or even religious at all to appreciate the mastery of Gaudi. It is incredibly inspirational and I can't wait to return in 2026 (or 2027) after originally visiting in 2013. Thank you for this wonderful tour and progress update.
It was his faith on Christ, by being a Catholic Christian which inspired Gaudi to design this marvel. You are missing out in God and the awesomeness you will never know away from him. You will never get that inspiration, no matter how good your Eurythmics might be!!! Sorry
@@dvdortiz9031 It’s unfortunate your parents have left you with access to the internet. Your comments have just broadcast to the world that you have absolutely no idea what your writing about.
FYI, it is not a cathedral, it is a temple, church, in any European city there are many churches but only one cathedral and the one in Barcelona is located on the gothic quarter
I've been to Barcelona twice and taken a tour of La Sagrada Familia each time. I am not the least bit religious, but Gaudi's vision is impressive and inspiring. This church is definitely a must see.... I tis somewhat a shame that the exterior of this exceptional structure has been encroached upon by the surrounding buildings of the city. It should sit by itself so that people can get the best view of the structure.
The church is in the middle of a city on purpose. It is part of the community. The community lives in the buildings around it. It was meant to be even more central to Barcelona, but the city came to it instead.
@@hylje When the church was begun, it was surrounded by open ground. The city had not pushed up to the church borders. Barcelona is much larger now than it was in the 1880s. A gorgeous structure like this should not be swallowed up by other buildings.
@@ThinkAboutVic Well, I'm an atheist. I've been to Barcelona twice and visited it twice. If I ever go back, I will visit it again. It's an incredible building. Lines to get in are loooong. Say one thing for the Catholic church, they some impressive edifices.
@@ThinkAboutVic You appear to have problems with spelling and sentence structure, but, as far as I can tell, you are asking a question based upon a false premise. Of course, it will be used. I am not Roman Catholic, and I know that Spain is a divided society with a large proportion of the population militantly aetheist and/or militantly anti-Catholic. That said, there are millions of Catholics in Spain and hundreds of millions across the World. Many of the faithful will visit La Sagrada Familia, not as tourists but by way of pilgrimage. Many services are held there, even today whilst construction continues. The number of services will increase as construction nears its' end. It WILL, therefore, be USED by large numbers of the faithful and will be SEEN by many more. Read the comments by those, many of them tourists ticking down the "things to do" list, who say that they were, many of them unexpectedly, I am sure, INSPIRED. Huge numbers of tourists are and will continue to flock there making La Sagrada Familia a nice little earner for the Roman Catholic Church. A little piece of advice. People will have more respect for your arguements if you express yourself without the Beavis and Butt-Head vulgarity.
This is the most beautiful building in the world for me. I visited Barcelona only once, but I will never forget seeing the cathedral for the first... I have wonderful memories there
Anyone intending to visit La Sagrada Familia ought to view this video a few times. It just might help in acquiring a perspective on one of the most awe-inspiring architectural masterpieces I have ever seen. Even after seeing this video, let me assure, visiting the 'Temple' would still be a jaw-dropping experience.
I got the chance to see this masterpiece this summer. Stunning. You walk around and no matter how loud the crowds are the rainbow lights and the structure just make you zone out of it all and make you just stand there in awe. It’s amazing.
Great video! Some extra reading: it's true that Gaudi knew he would not see the building completed in his lifetime, which is why he left lots of drawings and models for reference. But on July 18 1936 during the Spanish civil war, a gang of radicals broke in and destroyed virtually all of Gaudi's work, along with a failed attempt to bomb the Nativity facade. The continuation of it's construction was debated following the end of the war, ultimately deciding to proceed. Much of the building was designed by students of Gaudi and what knowledge was left in the rubble, with the Passion facade being completed in the 1970s. Architect Mark Burry studied Gaudi in Barcelona and designed the interior in the 90s using aeronautcal engineering software Podcast 99% Invisible have a great episode all about Gaudi's life and the Sagrada Familia, definetely worth a listen :)
You did a wonderful job, Manuel. I visited the Temple about 15 years ago but didn't learn as much about it as you provided here. It's a magnificent place.
I’m going to Barcelona in October and have watched a huge amount of travel videos and Sagrada Tour Videos. I can say this is 100% the BEST one I’ve ever seen. So complete with information on this incredible church/temple. Thanks so much.
I visited Barcelona and La Sagrada familia in July of last year. I still to this day think about the beauty and details that have so much meaning. I always go back to the pictures I took and analyze the details. You will always find something new. I remember the feeling of being inside La Sagrada Familia and not wanting to leave. I am not a super religious person but this place definitely ignited the spiritual part in me. 🙌
It's really sad that many of the people specially young which were born and raised in Barcelona, did not visit this wonder even living beside it. I decided to do it some years ago, and is probably one of the most incredible places I did ever see in my life, every single detail was thought by the genious Gaudí and it seems a building from another planet. Mayor should do something to improve local visits.
Very well done! I follow the progress of la sagrada since I have been in Barcelona for the first time in my live 1989. Then 1996. Now after 26 years it‘s damn time to go back! Think you made me! Thanks for reminding me what an extremly excellent and foresighted architect Gaudi was! Brilliant presentation! Thank you!👌🏻👍🏻😁
I’ve lived in Barcelona for 6 years now and last year I finally went inside Sagrada Familia and it was literally breathtaking. Immediately upon entry I couldn’t help but gasp and think holy shit!
This is an excellent presentation. The visuals/graphics are of the highest quality. Sagrada Familia is a building like no other. An architectural masterpiece. It is a truly breathtaking spectacle. I' m lucky to have visited 3 times and each time it still managed to over awe me with its beauty and scale. Words and pictures cannot fully do it justice, it has to be experienced in the real world. The last time I visited was in 2008. I hope to return sometime soon.
The City of Barcelona is unique thanks to the many fantastic works of Gaudi. I have spent hours in front of each of his buildings, filled with awe and inspiration. By contrast, we here in the USA are so poor culturely. Thanks for the tour.
Hola Manuel, ¡Menudo reportaje! Visité la Sagrada Familia hace bastantes años y veo que se han realizado numerosos progresos. Gracias por un vídeo tremendamente didáctico y con tanta atención al detalle. Esperemos poder verla terminada. Enhorabuena.
What an incredible church! Thank you for the most in depth video about this architectural masterpiece. A friend visited the Sagrada Familia last summer and said that it was one of the greatest experiences of her life.
Most interesting! I visited the Sagrada Familia a few years ago, but your explanations added a lot to what I saw! I plan to go back in a few years from now, when it will be completed! Grâcies!
A thing of such incredible beauty. Always so strange to find a sculpture of a guy being tortured in the center of these brilliant buildings of art and ingenuity.
I mean, Gaudí's life reflect his intent with the basilica, he only lived to see the first facade finished, died when the second on was being made, and when the last one is finished, his work will forever mark him as one of the besst architects to ever live. Inspirational and a bit of a coincidence.
Just saw it today, I felt it as I was going up the stairs from the metro station and you come right there. Dont need to be religious to get the shivers from the scale and beauty.
Thank you very much. This video is exactly what I need. Other videos only talk about the construction. Your video is the first one I found that explains the meaning of each detail.
La presentación me gustaba mucho!!!! He vivido en España por 20 años y he visto la sagrada familia diferentes veces. Y cada vez he descubierto algo nuevo. Es la creatividad de Dios. ❤❤❤❤
I wonder in another hundred years if it will be complete. Painted in its full glory. I'm not religious but this is an achievement of humanity and the arts.
Ay Manuel! I’ve just watched your video and it’s left me in tears of reverence. I toured the church and was in a different kind of awe then but felt it was more a distraction; more of a museum than a house of God. I felt similarly visiting Rome as I walked by and turned down the opportunity of seeing The Vatican. Your video somehow transcended actually being there because you explained everything so well. Thank you.
If you appreciate being moved to tears by the beauty of a building because of the love with which it was made, you should see the sagrada familia. It’s special.
I've also been to this piece of masterclass architecture, the la Sagrada Familia is just the most symbolic, beautiful and magnificent building i've ever seen in my life. I'm sure nothings even gonna come close to gaudis perfection and the wonderfull work of the architects dedicaded ti the Sagrada after him. I can truly and most passionatly advise annyone to visit the cathedral. Thank you very much for this indeph look :))
I have visited this Church twice, and it still amazes me with all the details as visiting at different time of the day would give you a different experience.
As a non practitioning protestant of a few decades, that has seen quite a few houses of worship of many faiths and from the most personal and humble...to this! The Sagrada Familia!!! The inside, the light, the color, the sound even...it is a full on sensory experience! To my eye, other churches try and fail to interpret God's eternal kingdom through gilded baubles and imposing carvings, statues and stained glass...in short they feel as if they were designed by Tony Soprano!!! The Sagrada Familia is an expression of paradise on earth! It is filled with nature bathed in natural light. I know I'm not doing it justice but I think it's the only house of God/prayer that lifted my spirits! ❤ 🙏 😊
This post is very timely! As we Catholics celebrate the Sacred Family feast world-wide today. Gaudi' s inspiration for God's Glory, rendered a name for him. The same as Michelangelo, Rafael, Leonardo, Bernini, and many others before, from age to age!!! The eternal Church since 33AD. Foundation and pillar of the truth!!! 1Timothy 3:15!!!
Wonderful! I have been there but missed so many of the details you film and describe. Some I could never have seen without your film. Thank you so much.
Perfectly researched, analysed and presented video. Manuel ought to sell these as a guided tour as the official recording ones hires at the church is not as informative.
I accidentally stumbled on this in 1990 when nobody was there, and I was amazed by the carving detail. Now I find the outside overly busy, discordant and it seems to be a magnet for pigeon poop. There's a reason buildings have flat precipices.. The inside however, is quite magical.
