Uncover the veiled mysteries of the ancient biblical monarchy in, "Godforsaken: A King Like the Nations." Journey with us as we delve into the labyrinth of time, challenging widely accepted narratives and uncovering hidden truths subtly inscribed by ancient scribes.
Traditionally, the monarchy of Israel has been viewed as the pinnacle, the golden age of biblical history. But is this narrative painted in the true hues of divinity or simply an illusion? As we traverse through the epoch that saw kings reign over Israel and Judah for approximately 440 years, from 1026 to 586 BCE, we'll question the foundations of this belief.
Most of us recognize Saul as the first king of Israel. Yet, we'll explore a narrative that diverges from the familiar path, a narrative that intertwines the story of the actual first king with the first-ever parable spoken in Israel's ancient history.
Beyond the surface of Deuteronomy 17:14-20 lies the Torah (instruction) of the King, purportedly written by Moses. But is there more than meets the eye?
Our exploration promises to ignite curiosity and raise questions that may challenge your long-held beliefs. Are your perceptions of the monarchy genuinely aligned with God's? Do they resonate with the interpretations of biblical writers?
Prepare to unravel the obscured facets of ancient monarchy that may reshape your entire understanding of the biblical history.

A greatly useful, thoughtful and thought-provoking presentation. Many thanks for this study. I love the easy-to-listen to style. However, kingship in Israel seems to be well understood from the time of Jacob where Judah is promised kingship (Gen 49:9-13), Balaam's sceptre prophecy, Num 23:21, 24:7, 17, etc. In Dt 28:36 a long future captivity with their king is prophesied. The arrival of kings is certain. So why is Moses muted in Dt 33:7 and prays for Judah's strength in a trial? Because as you rightly point out everything to do with God's service has to be pure, set apart and anointed, the priests and all the sacred vessels, and instruments. But what about the king, the person who could assemble and call together all the tribes of Israel to worship there? He has to be pure in his generations. Anointing is a symbol of legitimacy showing that the priests recognized the purity of the person or object, set aside for godly service. The shocking fact is that Judah had to wait hundreds of years before a descendant could be qualified and become the promised king. How long? Ten generations! It is prophesied, showing David was no accident, nor the even longer prophecy about the future captivity of a king. Kingship was assured. The biblical record shows that the people of Israel recognized that this royalty belonged to Judah by not generally creating kings before this time, or from other tribes, even if all the nations around them had kings, and they were threatened with utter slavery and annihilation by the Ammonites in 1Sam 11. Why 10 generations? Moses wrote 'A mamzer shall not enter the Congregation of the Eternal even unto the tenth generation..' Dt 23:2. All descendants of Judah were forbidden to enter the Tabernacle for 10 inclusive generations. Mamzer (incorrectly translated bastard in KJV) means a product of incest. Judah had relations with his daughter in law, Tamar. That would normally invoke a death penalty Lev 20:12. But it was done unknowingly and it brought about Judah's repentance. (He had previously mixed it up with pagan Canaanites.) No entry into the Congregation = no kingship until conditions were right = no anointing for kingship/ entry into the Tabernacle = no recognition of Judah as royalty until then. Judah had pariah status in holy sites. Thus there was no king in Israel and everyone was forced to determine what was right in his own eyes under tribal and divisive politics and according to the teachings of the Levites in their midst. The tribes worshipped at the Tabernacle but Judah was shunned. No tribe, not even Joseph or Ephraim, claimed the kingship even though Joseph was given extraordinary blessings, Dt 33:13-17 compared with one verse for Judah. Judah and Tamar had twin sons. Both were mamzers and so also their families. Pharez and his son Hezron, his son Ram, his son Amminadab, his son Nachshon and daughter Elisheva. Nachshon begat Salma whose son was Boaz, who begat Jesse whose son was David. David was the 10th inclusive generation from Judah. This impurity was transmitted only on the male side. Aaron married Elisheva of this line of Judah. That showed that the mamzer tribe should not be despised for marriage and die out or be exiled. After 10 generations David could then be anointed as a son who was pure to enter the Tabernacle. Samuel, son of an Ephrathite and who thus might also have been a tenth generation priest and prophet, was aware that only Judah had the birthright of kingship. He anointed Saul as leader (nagid) 1Sam 10:1; the people called him king. David, son of patriarch Jesse of Bethlehem-Ephratah, was anointed three times, as the pure descendant of Judah, the king of Judah and then the king of Israel. The Messiah/ Christos is an anointed son of the anointed king David, Matt 1. Only the anointed kings are recorded in 1:6-11 in this genealogy.

Good stuff! I’ve been studying on my own the ideas of the Biblical monarchy lately and this is a great teaching to supplement my research. By the way, what is the translation that you are reading on the iPad? Is it a translation or straight from the Hebrew text?
@RossKNicholsTV
@RossKNicholsTV Год назад
It depends. I prefer a literal translation. My favorite is the Koren Jerusalem Hebrew Bible, but generally, on my iPad, I have the Hebrew coupled with the Old ASV since it is pretty literal. I often go between Hebrew and English, particularly when I know that the English is not literal enough. I hope this helps.

Mount Ebal : what are your thoughts on the name Yahweh on the mount Ebal curse tablet. I am a Christian and I was looking at the Old Testament in Joel 2:32 32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call. I prayed and ask the Lord what His name is because of the controversy and I had a dream and I saw 12 Hebrew priests wearing a robe and wearing a turban hat and they were in a circle moving counterclockwise and they said a Hebrew name as they raised their hands up and each mans hand touched the man next to him forming a crown. I saw them do this and say the name three times .

So to be clear, you are making the assertion that Samuel wrote Deut 17, the commands for kings? And that it was not written by Moses?

What about the coming Messianic king spoken of in prophetic texts like Num 24:17,19; Isa 9:6-7; Dan 7:13-14? Don’t you believe ultimately it is YHWH’s will to have a human messianic king rule over all the nations like TNK so clearly prophecies?

Good question Although we have been told … For YHWH shall be our ruler, YHWH shall be our monarch, YHWH shall be our sovereign And shall deliver us. -Isaiah.33.22

@@YAH_ONLY what people don’t understand is the earthly throne of Israel where a human king sits is the throne of YHWH. The king represents Israel to YHWH and the king represents YHWH to the people! That does not make the human king YHWH! One day when all the world and people are subject to the king of Israel, YHWH will come and dwell with His people forever, that is when sin & death is swallowed up / done away with.
