Working on calling methods via animations, as well as blendshapes today, while blend shapes are definitely the flashiest part, calling methods are used by me personally constantly, so a very important part of almost any 3D game really.

Thank-you for this tutorial. Does godot 4.0, 4.1 (onward?) have its own version of blendshapes that does not require importing from blender?

It unfortunately does not (nor will it as far as I'm aware of), though I think it should be theoretically possible to create a plugin that makes them, not sure though... But yeah currently you have to import them from blender/other 3D modeling software. I'm glad you found the tutorial helpful.

Are Blend Shapes borked in 4.1? Despite my best efforts they won't appear on Godot while everything else works just fine.

They are functional as far as I'm aware of, that being said there's a lot of issues with exporting and getting them into godot, did you make sure that the "apply modifiers" is not checked on exporting from blender? the blend shapes are treated as a modifier and a lot of times that was the problem with me.

@@Bonkahe That could be the issue. I'm using the automated .blend file exporting from Godot's side instead of manually exporting models.

Ahhh, I have not worked with that before besides environment assets so I am unsure whether that would impact it any, I would definently try exporting as gltf and see if that works for you.

​@@Bonkahe Applying modifiers fixed the issue. Even works through the automated export/import process. In case anybody else ever has the same issue I was having. I just applied all the modifiers to my model in blender. Godot automatically imported the file as per usual. I then reimported the file through the Import tab and then under the Blender/Nodes section, from the Modifiers dropdown menu, chose: No Modifiers. While I was at it, I applied Export Bone Deforming Mesh Only as it was also on by default. Thanks. Everything works now.
