Godox ML60II Bi Review: Best Light for Content Creators? (+ MLP Projection Unit)

In this video I review the Godox ML60II Bi, the predecessor to the popular Godox ML60, with additional bi-color support.
This light is super compact, stylish, and could be the best budget light for RU-vid, TikTok, and other content creation. The battery handle, carrying case, and other accessories have also been upgraded.
It uses the Godox mount, which has plenty of inexpensive softboxes, along with other modifiers like pop-up silicone diffusers, and the Godox ML Projection Attachment.
Leave a comment and let me know if you think this is the best option for content creators out there.

Internal battery? 👀
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 7 месяцев назад
@@DavidZhou Not on this light. Ulanzi makes a tiny, 40W COB with an internal battery, although it's a proprietary mount without many options: geni.us/ulanzilt02840w Inkee has the Gold Crow GC60/30, which have internal batteries, and an expandable Bowens mount. I did a video on those here, very different than this (and most) lights: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f_ut1k56QS4.html

Need it with internal battery, i own 3 version I of this lights, i do wedding photography, and i hate to carry a huge pelican case with the lights, the battery plates, 12 npf batteries, reflectors, etc. Do you hace a recommendation for cob led lights (40-60w) that can be controlled with a remote and powered with an INTEGRATED npf battery plate or internal batteries? Something like the smallrig ones but with remote control?

@@ivan_lomeli I would suggest the Inkee Gold Crow GC60 lights, or the GVM SD80D/S. I did a video on the Gold Crow lights here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f_ut1k56QS4.html They have since released a mobile app, and a 30 watt version that's essentially half as long. Pretty cool lights with internal batteries. The GVM lights are actually really solid little lights, and have built-in NP-F slots with a good mobile app. I did a video on those here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oSmdCGmUrQ8.html Hope that helps!

I think your videos are very good. They are informative because they describe every last detail. I have two Godox lights, the Godox SL150W II, and I am very happy with them. The deviation from the actual WB is almost 100 Kelvin, which is a very good value for my purposes. But the best thing about the lights for me is that the fans can be turned off. I'll now get to the point: thanks to your detailed description of the ML60II Bi LED, I will buy this light. Interesting lighting situations can then be created in conjunction with the two other lights. Thanks again for the video🙂👍

The small form factors of the ML60IIBi and ML100Bi are excellent, however the need for proprietary modifiers/additional adapters falls in to the same failings as the Zhiyun Molus series of lights. Having to carry special modifiers or an extra adapter that will create additional leverage on the plastic housing of the light sort of defeats the purpose of a having a small run and gun light to begin with. The addition of the adapter puts it at a price point that competes with Amaran's 60x and 100x which manage to include a standard Bowens mount. I honestly feel that if they had simply included the Bowens mount, these things would have kicked the snot out of the 60x/100x. Though I do understand the design/market decision that most people running 60w/100w lights probably aren't putting on massive modifiers anyway, however the choice would be nice without additional adapters to keep track of. Great video overview and definitely perfectly highlights the advantages and disadvantages of the light!
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 2 месяца назад
I typically don't like proprietary modifiers for all the reasons you mentioned, but I'm becoming more open to them BECAUSE there are already so many native Bowens options out there, as long as the selection of modifiers are inexpensive and good, it's fine by me. The Godox mount modifiers are way lighter and more portable, so I like it in this case if you are specifically in need of a lightweight, portable option. If you want to use your Bowens modifiers, I would probably go with something else. Although, a lot of times, when using adapters, less leverage is actually put on the light housing itself, because the adapter takes all of the weight of both the light and the modifier. And Godox also FINALLY is releasing an adapter besides the S2, which looks like it's only ~$15, and will be a huge asset for a lot of their lights: geni.us/godoxmlgb That new adapter does not take pressure of the light itself, but also looks quite slim, so shouldn't really add to the leverage of bigger Bowens modifiers either. Long story short, it's not for everyone, but no light is, they all have their pros and cons. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Hi bro, great video. is this strictly a continuous light or it can work as a strobe?
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 5 месяцев назад
Thanks! And it is only a continuous light. There are very few LED lights that double as strobes, like the Godox FV series, or some lights from Rotolight (which are very expensive). Even then, they are not as bright as even a cheap "real" strobe, and have other downsides, like the flash being different duration than typical flashes, etc. I highly recommend getting separate continuous/flash lights.

As far as brightness and color accuracy go, the G60 and ML60II Bi are comparable. No USB-C, but there is a v-mount specific battery handle. It’s been tough to find sub-100Wh v-mount batteries that support more than 45W via USB-C until very recently. Is there no option to convert the proprietary mount to a Bowens mount? Something like the S2 Bracket
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 7 месяцев назад
The S2 bracket worked for the original ML60 because the light itself slides into the bracket, which clamps onto it. The form factor here won't allow that. I'm currently not aware of a Godox-mount to Bowens-mount adapter, and it's definitely a consideration with this light if you have a bunch of Bowens mount modifiers already. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of proprietary mounts, but I mentioned in the video, the Godox-mount specifically is a little different because it has a better selection of modifiers, and they are all really lightweight and cheap, so I see it as a pro for this light in particular.

You can see my review on the original ML60 here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GHiMqZ9oiQM.html The bi is the same, just bi-color.

Thanks for that awesome video, just one question, can the battery mount, charge the batteries?
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 7 месяцев назад
No problem! The handle cannot charge the batteries. There are some high end lights where the ballast can recharge also, but the ones I can think of are 600+ watts and over $1K 😅

I ordered 2 of them and sent back cause of the plastic built. Not good for larger softboxes, feels like it will break the mount. I went with the ML60 bi cause it’s metal 😊
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 7 месяцев назад
Fair enough, gotta get what works for your needs. I had no worries with the silicone diffusers, MLP, and the AD-S softboxes. The MLP is probably 10x heavier than the light itself 😂 Good thing it has its own mount.

which give more light. this ml60 or the colbor cl60?
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 3 месяца назад
The ML60II Bi puts out ~500 more lux, but that is negligible. The would both use the same camera settings for proper exposure, so they are essentially identical in brightness: newlayer.com/gear/lights/compare?light1=Godox+ML60II+Bi&light2=Colbor+CL60

Help. I can not connect my iphone to the light. What do I wrong? Where do I find the remote assistance code?
@NewLayer

It should be as easy and turning Bluetooth on and connecting within the Godox app. Support from wherever you bought it will be your best bet if you're still having trouble. Or you can try contacting Godox on social media.

If you look on the product page under "What's in the Box" or "Optional Accessories", they have handles for NP-F or V-Mount batteries: godox.com/product-b/ML60IIBi.html

Yeah looks like they are out of stock from the usual US retailers. Looks like it's 2-3 weeks right now if you need the battery grip. I would imagine they'll be re-stocked all over in about a month.

@@NewLayerWere they ever in stock or did only the reviewers get sent units?
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 7 месяцев назад
@@gtwester They were in stock, but the first batch that actually sits in US warehouses always seems very limited. There were 4-5 listings on Amazon yesterday, even though they weren't Prime and presumably shipped from overseas, that are no longer there! I would imagine with the seeming popularity of the light they'll ramp up production ASAP.

Godox Bi colour lights are way off when measured with a colour meter.
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 7 месяцев назад
Way off of what? I've tested multiple copies of probably 25 different Godox lights with my Sekonic C-800, and keep a database of results here: newlayer.com/gear/lights/compare Like all lights, Godox lights vary, but they are middle of the road at the least Vs. other brands at similar prices. The copy of the ML60II Bi I have in particular was very, very good in terms of CCT matching what the screen says. The CRI and individual R values were all better than average, and the SSI was right where you would expect it to be for a bi-color light.
@candyartstv
@candyartstv 7 месяцев назад
@@NewLayerI'm getting a reading of 4300k but showing 6500k on the control box, which is the highest it goes. This discrepancy applies to both UL150 II Bi and KNOWLED F400Bi light mat. While I can match the light mat with their daylight LEDs, the highest the UL150 can go up to is 6500k (4300k). That's still around 500k from the approximate 4800k reading from their daylight fixtures, according to the colour meter. Thanks for the link!
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 7 месяцев назад
@@candyartstv That's very odd, and something has to be off. Out of the ~500 lights I've tested, none have been that far off, regardless of brand. What color meter are you using? There are only a couple that are reliable. Some people DM me about CCT issues with lights, but they are using color meter apps or plug-in meters on their phones, which aren't reliable. Could always test with a white piece of paper and your camera custom white balance, or taking a RAW photo of a white paper and checking on a computer. I can only assume you're measuring without any modifiers in a fully dark room, but I'm very curious to know if you got crazy unlucky with multiple bad units, or what else might be going on.
@candyartstv
@candyartstv 7 месяцев назад
@@NewLayer I am currently using the Kenko KCM-3100, which has always been reliable and consistent for me. All of their daylight-only LEDs are not sitting at around 4800k. I checked your database but unfortunately, these LEDs are not listed there. I've contacted Godox and am waiting for their response. I am hopeful that a firmware update can fix this issue.
