Here is a quick editing of Godsmack's drum battle followed by a few covers. It was filmed on june 21st in Clisson, France, during the Hellfest Open Air Festival 2019.
I've seen these two drum battle before, Sully is a beast at everything he touches...Shannon is just a legend, he always looks like hes just so chill and there for fun and thats it! He has no worries!
They’ve been performing this drum duet for 20 years with only slight variations at the end. It’s brilliant every time. It was incredible to see live back in May.
Dustin Punks Not even close. Sully is good but he does parlor tricks that wow most non-drummers. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-utYq-AIJSbg.html Dave is an amazing technician
I've seen them twice and the first time seeing the drum off I was blown away. The talent they have and just showmanship they bring to each show is well worth the time to watch! Damn good band!
Seen them this year in may 2023...and this duelling drum performance was the best part of the show for me personally...and am an even bigger godsmack fan than before...sully erna is freaking awesome...
A little tid bit of info for yall that didn't know..I grew up with Sully and the guys and he has always been a great drummer..He actually started his music career as a drummer in a hardcore band here in New England..When Godsmack's drummer Tommy left the band they obviously needed a new kit man..So who did Sully hire..? Who made the most sense..? Shannon Larkin of course..!! How did Sully find Shannon..? Well he was Sully's drum teacher when Sully started on the drums..!! Makes sense I guess right..? Looks like it was a good call..haha
I'm seeing a lot of comments about the drum battle being the same for a long time. Well, maybe the meat and potatoes is the same. But the desert at the end is different from time to time. At this point, it's a song like any other. Are bands changing their songs now because it's been played the same for many years? Maybe if it was an acoustic set or something. But otherwise no! Just enjoy the jam.
I get what you say and it’s true. But they could do a totally different drum battle if they wanted, they are talented enough. As you say, they’ve transformed this bit in part of the song
I’ve seen this quite a few times. The beginning music and groove is the same but the fills are almost completely different. The songs at the end totally change tour to tour.
Sully was asked in an interview once if he thought Shannon Larkin was the best drummer in the world. He said " He's not even the best drummer in Godsmack"
This is one of the most loving insults one bandmate could deliver to another bandmate. I f****** love Godsmack. Saw a drum battle live. Still gives me the chills thinking about it.
This is awesome and it's always a blast to watch these two but damn. They've been doing the same drum battle for the past 15 years! It wouldn't be hard to switch up a new routine!
It's the same overall structure, but they don't play the same thing every night. It develops. Still plays to the audience too, so why mess with a good thing?
chetthehoss because 80% of your audience are in line for beer and bathrooms listening to make sure they don't miss when they start playing songs again. Maybe that's why?
@@ejsinner1520 I have no idea what concert you've been at where 80% of the audience is waiting at the concession stands or washrooms. I also have no idea what your comment has to do with what I was saying.
chetthehoss Uh, do you not remember your own post? Maybe you should read it again. You literally asked," so why mess with a good thing?" Sound familiar? ...Anyways, my response is an answer to YOUR question. Do you see the connection now? Lol Oh and the concert I was talking about was Godsmack... You know, the band we are all talking about here? Take another hit bro and gather yourself. Lmfao
Theses two guys 🍺 🎶 🎶 are musical legends one in percussion other in drums. Drums and percussion fucks mind and burning 💕 in masses. Perfect sound ♾️🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺. Worship to music to 🎭🎭
He actually has special 3 jointed drum sticks connected at his shoulders. Some mistake them for arms, but if you look closely, you will notice a "Vic Firth" logo where his upper arm should be.
I grew up with Sully and he has always been a great drummer.. He actually started out as a drummer in a hard core band here in New England.. Shannon was actually Sully's drum teacher when Sully got started on the skins..😉
@Sully Erna,,❤️👑💋🔥 Sully, you are the best. Your talent is surpassed by none. You move people to higher places, your spirit gives other's strength to get through anything. You have a place in my heart 😘 I love what you have done with the Scars Foundation. Thank You for sharing your talent so that I can always enjoy you. And I do.. much love for you.. 💋❤️😘👑 KING of my ❤️.
I absolutely love Sully. But he did come in second place. Which he should have. He doesn’t play like that day in and day out. Which makes that performance even more impressive. 😎👍👍
I LOVE these drum duels. I think they should talk "shit" while they do it but when they do they just rattle off there favorite cartoons. Just funny & only a suggestion.
Sully actually started his music career on the drums here in New England..When Godsmack's drummer left the band Sully hired Shannon..Shannon Larkin was Sully's drum teacher when he started..🤟
They are both extremely unique. I love sully man great guy met him twice. But I’d have to say Shannon Larkin. He is far more technically sound. He has influenced great heavy metal drummers such as Chris Adler (lamb of god) etc. sully is great at the drums but Shannon is damn near untouchable as far as technicality and being clean plus just watch his energy.
Funny you ask this question.. I grew up with Sully and the guys and Sully has always been a great drummer..He started out his music career as a drummer in a hardcore band here in New England..Funny that people compare their drumming skills because what a lot of people don't know is that when Godsmack's drummer left the band Sully's first choice to replace him was Shannon.. Why you might ask..? Because Shannon was Sully's drum teacher back when he got started..haha..🤟
Sully said his dad found someone willing to start teaching him how to play at age 3. Sully is Jesus......+......yeah, Jesus+ He's Jesus+......Shannon Larkin is GOD!
The problem with some ego driven musicians is they don’t want to hear even a slight suggestion and is likely the reason for such repetitiveness. Before anyone could get the sentence out... “Hey, who the fuck do you think you ah??!!” (Fight ensues).
With all the creative and inspiring "chops" drummers out nowadays, how do you not change up your old drum solo? They look and sound bored...like me watching this. So disappointing when talented musicians only give ya 30-40% of their talent and effort. Hopefully they were sick and having a bad day.
EJ Sinner first of all Shannon always looks bored playing the drums and and then you have a vocalist and guitar player playing drums better than most drummers out there. Come on man give the people what they want.....duel drum solos.
Colonel Angus yo, I've seen them live a few times and seen other RU-vid vids and I don't think this is one of their best. Shannon doesn't seem as smooth in his movements like he's tired. And look at Sullys face. He too looks like he's not completely in the zone. Like I mentioned before, maybe they were sick, having a bad day, maybe didn't get a chance to warm up before hitting stage, or maybe they too are a lil bored with solo, but know fans dig it, so they do it. Idk, just my opinion. Now as a musician, you always want to challenge yourself and push forward and I think it's time for them to push and reignite a fire for the fans and themselves. They have the skills and musicianship. I'd like to see/hear a lil growth spurt. Again, just my opinion, for you to disagree with all you want. Lol peace out and play loud.
You have to realize that drum solos were always meant to give thevrest of the band (and crew) a little breather..So seeing that Shannon and Sully do not take a breather..I'd say it is amazing.. And they have since changed this drum solo completely in the past 4 months..So just be on the lookout for that I guess..
