Honestly this fits the gun devil to a t, the theme of a mindless demon who only enjoys slaughtering everything in sight, and brings devastation whenever it goes, it can't be reasoned with, you can only run in vain.
I hope MAPPA somehow acquires the rights to use this as the Gun Devil appears, or at the very least take inspirations from it. That fan-animation used it to great effect. Cinematic, and haunting.
I used to eat mushrooms. Plug headphones in. Sit in a dark room and wear a toque to press the headphones deeper into my skull to have nothing but this song exist in my world.
3:40 That's it. This is the most chaotic, frantic, apocalypic, crushing, demolishing and desolate moment in the history of rock music, I'm convinced. The apocalyptic, frantic and desolate part I would even apply to all of music that ever existed. This moment is the depiction of the end of every living creature on earth, and the fatal as well as horrendous casualty of the planet. And the absorbing build up that follows it all, which is just pure bleakness, perfectly underlines the chaos and works absolutely flawlessly as some kind of horrific aftermath. I think that I've never witnessed never again will witness such an artistic and perfect audible presentation of pure fucking mayhem.
@@svrona7696 When I went to see Godspeed in Oberlin, Ohio long ago in the early 2000's, they were known to play nearly only new music & nothing from older albums. This song wasn't released yet. I remember standing right in the middle front row, watching them tear into this song, and my mind just breaking apart. ...when the key change comes towards the end, I felt like I had taken DMT or something. I shot off and up and out and yet remained motionless. I'm always so glad I hadn't heard that song yet or knew anything about it.
Nikhil Sutliff I always kind of interpreted their albums as a continuing saga of the end of the world. This album and Allelujah to me spell the final and violent death of the world, since those two are by far their most heavy and abrasive works to date.

Gun Devil Ability Activation: Shooting a bullet through Makima's head. Makima's 29th Confirmed Death
Fun fact: the gun Devil spared those who were born in April, July and October during his carnage. The numbers 4, 7 and 10 ( the numbers of these months in the calendary ) are, in Japanese, Shi, nana, and juu. Shina nai, means don't/won't die, depending on the context. Ju, means gun. So believe the message here is that those who were born in April, July and October "won't die by gun”.
I knew this song, I had it on a playlist a long time ago for some TTRPG horror stuff, when I heard it again on that Gun Devil video I had to have a re-listen, it’s actually so good
@@intelchip_x86 It's hard to remember a decade old thought, but I probably wasn't referring to the start, maybe to the thought of the ceaseless march of expansion
I don't understand why people don't rate this album as high as others. I think YUXO is the most listenable album from GY!BE. The album as a whole has soothing melancholy to it with more limited periods of foreboding noise and ambiance. With the exception of this piece it has a waltz time signature which really sucks you into it.
because they have developed musically and the "noise" has become part of their musical identity. To me most songs tell stories of strive, pain and suffering. Inequality, curelty and death. It is painfull and unpleasant, it get's worse and worse, which is why most GYBE songs escalate towards a point of musical climax that is then resolved through peace and harmony, by overcoming those struggles and achieving freedom. This "topic" is reflected in almost all of their later songs and kinda has become their musical signature
I've listened to this countless times. But it feels different when bombs really are dropping on civilians as I'm typing this. No words really. One person can't get over their ego, so children pay with their lives. No words.
Imagine if they used this song for the rumbling, I think it'd be the most terrifying scene an anime can possibly produce, the complete chaotic and apocalyptic tone the song gives off combined with the terror, fear and cries all the men, women and children give off before they're brutally crushed would be in my opinion would be one of the scariest scenes in all of anime.
The way it's extremely violent almost pounding you with the drums and then goes into this very somber, quiet and very .. almost uniform arrangement is unsettling. Like the suddenness of it.
The first movement makes me think of so much...the last moments aboard the Titanic: the band calmly continues playing as everyone around them is either dead or dying, knowing that it will soon be their turn...a bomb shelter during World War II: a family with three children sits in near darkness, praying to God as the world around them explodes in columns of fire...a century and a half into the future, a Third World War has broken out; a massive nuclear bomb just exploded in northern Europe and everyone is running for their lives, knowing full well that almost nobody will survive the initial blast and the following nuclear fallout....the feelings are so hard to put into words, but this song always gives me the chills. Very underrated in my opinion, definitely one of my favourites
I just finished listening to this song for the first time. Before I'd listened to Lift Your Skinny Fists before and it's one of my favorite albums of all time. This is such an intense piece of music, it almost rivals Static in intensity. I'm so glad I found this band.

The first time I listened to this song at this year, I was traveling in my car, it was absolutely incredible. I did this at January, before everything were fucked up. I thought this year would be better
I've found about them like 10 years ago in 2005 or something and I was like 20 years old. At first I was like "hmm, this is kinda wierd". A few hours later I was like "wow, this is actually good.". The next 4 weeks all I listened was GY!BE. But I was kinda afraid of what other people would think about me for listening to such different stuff. This was in my mind. I don´t know why. Then some time passed. And then last month, after passing through other post-rock bands and other music genres all these years, GY!BE got in my mind again. Absolutely mind blowing. It's like my maturity, my perception, made the music even better.
They were good though. I feel they started to sell out with Black Holes & Revelations, and the process was complete by 2nd Law. My favorite album is Hullabaloo though, which sounds different from almost everything else they've done. It's true though that Matt Bellamy had to learn to breathe properly between verses. Absolution was the album that got me into them back in high school, but now that I started to hear him gasping for breath some of the songs have become almost unlistenable.
If an asteroid was coming to destroy the Earth, I would play this song, and hug, embrace and cry with my fellow humans until we evaporated into the nothingness- like the nothingness we always were to begin with.
The title and sound feel like the inevitability of conflict in our current age, and its despair.. "Rockets fall on Rocket Falls", sounds like one of those old timey town names, made for Rockets to inevitably fall on it, made to be destroyed for the machine, like children born to become cannon foder
The deafening silence of the crew pierced through the roaring sound of the propellers, as they made the deep blue skies light up in fire. White streak of death, soaring through sub-stratosphere... Duck and cover they said! Duck and cover... I held her head and she held mine as we tasted the bitter pillar of smoke, towering above us. I refused to believe but her eyes awoke me, this is happening. This is real.
I have a theory that this piece references Georg Friedrich Haas' 'In Vain'. A modern german abstract classical piece made in response to a burgeoning far right ideology spreading in Austria. When performed live there are sections where, as the song would descend into its darkest sections, the lights in the building would also fall to complete darkness to the point where the musicians can not see the conductor anymore. So they have to really listen to each other to prevail out of the darkness and it's extremely powerful, but also something I think Godspeed would mess with heavily. The descending horns at around 6:50 in this song feel very familiar to sections of In Vain. Reference: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oUfLkc_Smvg.html
I just remembered a certain video about rotating 6D hypercubes, watched it again after 11 years or so, finally read the description, and found this song.
This whole album is their best IMO and one of the best ever written. All of the buildups actually lead somewhere and they don't waste all their time with pretentious sound collage and field recordings. I got it on vinyl and it sounds AMAZING. Thank you for posting this. ^_^
best reset when you wake up.... cause it had triggered a memory, when i was listening to this was a track, driving in high speed on empty highway,..... and i took off.... forever never came back...
