Exactly , I recently watched the GVK new empire movie twice. The fights were great, but in terms of the story, they went too far, making it far complicated. Personally, the only Monsterverse movie I like and watch very frequently is Godzilla 2014. It was a simple, old-school monster movie with a deep and dark storyline, and the build-up was fantastic.
@dominicx4936 gxk had a really simple story, idk what your on about. and the expanded lore was easy for me to take in and just made me appreciate how well GxK did in terms of world building which isn’t spoken about much as far as i know surprisingly.
You need to check in the dictionary what "masterpiece" means man, that movie is far from ot, especially when they killed off Brian Cranston's character it became worse than Twiligjt
The 2014 GODZILLA will always be uniquely different from the ones after it. Gareth just thinks different. Wish they could've kept him but at least they tried to keep the story going.
The only and HUGE mistake was killing the Brian Cranston character so so early in the movie. The only character with some real tragic story to follow. They could make the story so much better.
@@adamtorske9236Kyle's character had his moments but he was useless. It was his wife, Vera Farmiga's character that was great. And he was just onscreen for the sake on GvK
Godzilla 2014 has such more "realism" in comparison to the more recent movies. Godzilla here has so much WEIGHT to him, and even still the graphics look even better. For a giant creature in a city, they manages to make it feel very scary- and realistic in the 2014 version. The movie was very well paced too. It's as if everybody has forgotten what the creatures would really move like, and Gareth did an incredible job.
this is exactly what i thought. if you want to make a kaiju film... then make it feels like you're watching a giant monster on the screen. 2014 film really nails it because it has so much sense of scale and weight. sadly the franchise start loosing that after 2nd movie.. and with the latest entry i couldnt tell if im watching a kaiju movie.. or just mediocre action flick. just think about how colossal is pacific rim and then you get a disappointment called uprising
I hope next MonsterVerse film will be another solo Godzilla with dark and seriously tone and reflect the complexity of Godzilla's character from his POV or something like that. But it better be another solo Godzilla film.
9:57 We NEED this mentality to return or become more at the forefront when it comes to animating the monsters in the monsterverse, I’m all for a fun beat’em up brawl between huge creatures, but the major thing that also made them and this film so appealing that it got me into Godzilla, was how with any scene involving them, they *felt* their size; they can be at each other’s throats in combat, but the techniques utilized in 2014 never took away that sense of weight and scale, something that the franchise began to lose the further it went on in my opinion
@@raptros not when they treat him like a money magnet and make him look ridiculous. I have respect for the character, but it can't be given when the group directors treat it as a play thing. Literally.
@@raptrosYeah and he did that. Now he just looks and moves like some underweight boxer. His movement and CGI is so bad. He has no weight behind him. He doesn’t even seem that big anymore 😂😂😂
@@CattusTheDevourer That's not true at all, Godzilla has always been like this. You people forget most Japanese movies were done with a guy in a rubber suit, you've had Gamera and many other tokusatsu shows showing how those monsters are supposed to move. I don't believe for a minute the "grounded" feel of the heisei you people praise so much was 100% intentional but limitations due to the limited SFX they could use in those movies. Even MechaGodzilla II was relegated to a Zoner because the suit was too fragile. If Toho redid those movies with a quarter of Minus one or Shin Ultraman effects i bet my whole wage Godzilla wouldn't be moving like statue.
That's what I'm studying to make, just need to learn background and 3d modeling to animate it. Hopefully in about 2 years, it'll be ready and produced on here. So we no longer live with what they've given us.

What a shame we'll probably never seen Edwards take charge of another Godzilla movie. The cinematography of this movie was sublime, the tone just perfect. Creature design really was nailed...just never enough screen time of Godzilla, I wanted more of the Edwards Godzilla. Still do love the movie
@@giannisksanthopoulos4300Completely agree, loved the 2014 Godzilla with a passion, and King Of The Monsters was a great sequel, I just wish they cut Millie Bobby Browns character out a lot more, the family drama drags it down, but everything with Kyle Chandler was great though, awesome actor.
@@giannisksanthopoulos4300 Childish is godzilla's revenge, a film intentionally made for kids, please don't act like kotm (the same film with a gonorrhea joke for example) isn't campy like gvk or gxk. Nothing wrong with a campy tone. Problem is the writing.
Although King of the Monsters is my favorite Monsterverse film, I agree that Godzilla 2014 is a underrated one. It almost like a horror film rather than big monster movie.
@@HAIRYMAN-13 I disagree, grounding these characters was how 1998 happaned and completely breaks them. Godzilla is supposed to be doing drop kicks and flying and pulling continental plates apart and tanking Black holes not... feel like a beached whale :/
This movie had so much weight and gravity to it, visually speaking. Since KOTM it's felt more like a marvel movie than a monster movie. I really hope they come back to this more darker-tone "by the foot" prespective
Realistic... Sure 🤣 i guess whales should be able to fly by your account and not get crushed under their own weight by gravity, and they're a fraction of Godzilla's size.
gareth made art. Some of the shots were so iconic. Not only it was a great godzilla movie, it was a great thriller/disaster movie in general. You can enjoy the flashy cgi fights in the new movies, but if you bash on 2014 for lacking "action" or being too dark, you got no taste.
I remember back in 2014 when I watched it that isn’t what to dark in tone but just to dimly lit. I couldn’t see the really cool bits even in cinema. So no it wasn’t too dark just too dark😊
You have to understand that they need to to make the OG fans happy first. Which means they will have to have their own Showa Era (Dumb fun/ridiculous fight scenes/lack luster human characters) Heisei Era (Kind of an inbetween of dumb fun and serious vibes, with it gearing more towards the serious side towards the end of the era) And Millennium Era (no dumb fun ridiculous fight scenes/not really kid oriented/more grounded characters)
@@erickperez8770 They always have to be Godzilla movies first, and show respect for the character, you try to ground him, you will ruin the character. That's how 1998 happened.
Do the Monsterverse a huge favor. Re-release this movie brightened up and in IMAX. Gareth Edwards' use of scale is calling for this to experience in IMAX. Masked with darker tones made it difficult to see most of the Godzilla vs MUTOs fighting scenes. Those dark tones were recently fixed in the UHD 4K version. This one film can strike while the Godzilla iron is radiation hot.
i wish we could have more of this Godzilla. i mean kudos to GxK for making a fun monster fight movie, but the suspenseful atmosphere of G2014 is amazing
Where were all these G14 lovers when the movie came out?? The monsterverse is AWESOME and it’s gotten to have less of a focus on humans and more on the monsters, which is a main complaint from this movie, I’ve seen nothing but love from so many fans since GxK released (myself included) and now all I’m seeing is “ohhh I miss when Godzilla was grounded & realistic like G14” for the monsterverse you have G14 & Monarch, and for Toho you have 54, Shin, Minus One and probably more that I don’t know of cuz I haven’t seen every movie 😅 It just feels like you can’t win even tho, as Goji fans, WE HAVE SO MUCH
2014 was my first Godzilla movie. I just love and respect this movie so much for helping bringing Godzilla to modern audiences. Toho seemed to be done with making Godzilla movies at that point after making FW for the 50th anniversary. And I believe this movie brought back that spark. This movie walked so the newer Godzilla movies could run. If you dislike it, that's fine, but atleast give it a little bit of respect.
Things that this movie did right or really interesting: sense of scale, showing physics (tsunami scene), the airport silence scene, chinatown roar and the atomic breath reveal. Only defects were how little time we had with Bryan and Godzilla overall.
GvK and GxK have done an almost total 180 in tone and focus on sense of scale and I hate it. It was so easy to forget the monsters where giant 300+ foot giants while watching GxK specifically. It was abit better in the end fight but the Hollow earth really destroyed the sense of scale.
Love this movie. So many things were done so right, like the sense of scale created by unique set pieces. In my book, 2014 remains a modern day Godzilla classic.
This was a nice refresher Godzilla 2014 isn't like a monsterverse movie I'd watch over but it's a movie I respect for better or for worse. ( I'm looking at you Legendary Godzilla fan boys )
Still my favorite film of the Monsterverse by FAR! This movie actually had a serious tone and PURPOSE for a monster fight to happen, rather than a mindless battle. We spent time WITH the MUTOs and developed a connection with the "villain" AND Godzilla, making their inevitable fight more exciting. The weight of these monsters were felt. *NOBODY was stupidly cheering on the sidelines as millions of people were dying like in newer films!* Please go back to your roots. People would love to see another solo Godzilla film battling an old recognizable foe.
Thus is something that we never see after this masterpiece and the diamond of Kong skull island, those movies are something else compare to the other 3 after them
The fact that this video has more Godzilla in it than the movie is baffling. Some great footage though, I love how in the halo jump, they look around and randomly find Godzilla fighting the MUTO through the dust and smoke, great shot.
Next Monsterverse movie better have equal screen time with Godzilla and Kong, because GvK and GxK are only focused on Kong. I want to see an Adam Wingard movie that is focused both on Godzilla and Kong. 50/50 screen time for both of them.
2014 godzilla really embodied the original. You feared him every time he popped on screen. The destruction and chaos he brought with him was spectacular but not in the way you cheered for him but more like a helpless feeling. I hope the American versions bring back this Godzilla.
One of my favorite Godzilla designs and movie I remember watching Godzilla 2014 in DVD with my father I watch it over and over😂 and my grandma say is that an horror movie?😂
I love MonsterVerse so far. I love it so much. I owe it all to this movie. I sure bet the fans are being respectful and having valid arguments and not constantly making the same comment and dissing the tone of the later MonsterVerse.. you guys are fighting a losing battle. You got this movie. Be happy you do.
