Help Teresa win this Mustang for her birthday 6/2023 - • She made a BET! 3 MILL...
Welcome to Hartwick Performance!
Here it is... the 7.3L vs 5.0L. We took both Mustangs to the dyno and drag strip to see which engine would out perform the other! Don't give me too much crap about my driving at the drag strip hahaha
Thank you to everyone for following and giving us your support on this build! It has been a huge accomplishment for us! If you are new to the channel, make sure to follow us to see these stangs again in the future!
More thanks below:
Thank you to Rob Shoemaker at Palm Beach Dyno for all the help with tuning the Godzilla and making this thing drive!
Thank you to F.A.S.T automotive in Pensacola, FL for helping us with the dyno!

A 7.3 Godzilla engine in a Mustang is fucking sick! Replacing the Coyote with it eliminates the one bad thing about a stock 5.0: low end torque. Only problem with the Godzilla is you need an intake to help the top end. Once you get that, you will send full bolt on Coyotes to gapplebee's easily. About the gear lockout at high RPMs, you need a stainless steel clutch line and... A NEW CLUTCH! The number 1 things that ruin these MT-82s is the stock clutch. They absolutely suck at handling high RPMs and will lockout at anything over 6000 RPM, ESPECIALLY on a quick shift. Which sucks because Coyote's are all HP, all their power is high RPM, it feasts all the way up to 7500 RPMs (with boss or 18+ intake). I can shift my dad's '14 5.0 with the MT-82 (with stock clutch) almost flawlessly, but from time to time it will lockout of 3rd and the clutch pedal will stick to the floor after a quick shift into 2nd. Sometimes it even refuses to go into 4th (very rarely). But yes, those stock clutches suck! Change it out! And do a flywheel, clutch, clutch pressure plate, hydraulic throwout bearing and stainless steel clutch line all at once. You will never have a problem with high RPM lockout again (other then user error lol). Have fun with the build though! I can't wait to see how far this 7.3 comes! Subscribed.

Great to see that you've got this thing all buttoned up and running. I knew that thing was going to be a torque monster. This Godzilla engine reminds me of the old 427 side oilers in a lot of different ways. In an AC Cobra it feels like someone hit you from behind when you're rolling and then hit the throttle. It will break traction in any gear. That thing's nasty, and you've got basically the same thing here with a few more cubes and way better reliability. You get this thing breathing a little better, it's gonna make the NA Coyote builds look silly.
@sategllib2191
@sategllib2191 2 года назад

@randr10
@randr10 2 года назад
@@sategllib2191 Yeah, I got carried away a little, but I do think for drag racers this thing will be amazing. I've seen a lot of side-by-side dollar-for-dollar builds where the LS and Coyote are built up and the LS seems to always come out on top due to simplicity and inexpensive parts availability. Not that you can't make the power with a 5.0, it's just so expensive to do. This 7.3 is like a big block LS (same basic formula, but bigger displacement), so it should be a monster if the aftermarket picks it up and runs with it, which I think they might given the potential.

Definitely need a short runner intake manifold and a big cam to help the top end power of the 7.3. Torque really falls off a cliff around 4500 rpm. With a curve like that, I can imagine you probably should be shifting around 5600-5800. Also since the 7.3 makes so much more torque you might consider switching to a 2.73 rear-end gear to help with traction.

I would not switch the gear but do a diff intake manifold with a big cam and springs that shifts the curve higher and make better use of his current gearing.

I'll personally always prefer the engine I have to do less work to make more power with, but I've enjoyed this swap process and seeing the difference. That torque is crazy compared to the coyote and probably gives it the old-school "umph" most people are looking for. Congrats on a job well done, fellow Florida man.

The thing most people dont get about the 7.3 is that it is a low compression engine by comparison and it just wasnt made to make huge amounts of power where the coyote was always meant to go in the mustang and make power

I have been around the racing scene my whole life as my father was a drag racer and I am coming up as one. Rolling off the clutch and rolling into the gas keeping the rpms in your torque range, after practice you’ll be able to time when the clutch is fully engaged just before going full peddle at a speed that you can easily hold traction. Typing is hard to explain this but there is a lot of good videos on this method.

The ol third gear lockout. Everyone once In a while my 2018 5.0 has that issue. It’s more common in the mt82 than it should be. If your at a very high rpm and you shift to third, if the clutch pedal isn’t completely down to the floor it will do that as well.

Nice to see some honest dyno numbers finally. Too often I’ve seen shops trying to claim 450hp+ from bolt-ons on these Coyotes. The engines are rippers but to claim 70whp and more from simple bolt-ons… come on.
@SovietHellJumper
@SovietHellJumper 2 года назад
To be fair the 3rd gen coyotes do make those kind of numbers with bolt ons, not much tho after 500+ without forced induction.
@coryholbrook4643
@coryholbrook4643 2 года назад
@@SovietHellJumper most dyno numbers you see are heavily corrected. The car didn’t make that power. The computer “corrected” the number to a standard which is why you kept seeing and hearing 2 different numbers here. The poster of this video just had the integrity to post the real numbers up, not the fluffy ones. Only 12% drivetrain loss on a 500hp engine would net you 440whp and 12% is exceptionally efficient. Even more so with an IRS.

@@TOX_Ron I can go watch 1000 of the same dyno videos you’ve watched that show that very thing which is what I assume you made this comment to “prove” but this very video shows something you never see and what most people never understand. That the number given by the dyno operator is a fake, bullshit number the computer maths out based on a set of standardized environmental factors. It’s called the correction factor. I’m not saying no car has done it, I’m not saying it can’t be done, I’m saying the number is still a bullshit number it always sways higher than the real number. As this video shows, the REAL number measured vs the correction factor vs WHAT correction factor changes the REAL number by 15, 25, 30, 40 horsepower just based on conditions that day and what correction is used! This kid reported the real numbers but you could hear the dyno operator state much higher numbers. THATS what I referring to. And any savvy dyno operator can fudge those numbers even further if they’re the unscrupulous type so that their tune looks better than the other guy’s. Your comment proves nothing and only supports what Ive said over and over again.
@TOX_Ron
@TOX_Ron 2 года назад
@@coryholbrook4643 1/4 mile times prove that so keep going on with your rant with someone else lol. Coyotes make 440+ whp and that is all there is to it. Dyno’s are just tools to get an idea on how much horsepower a car makes. Of course it isn’t an exact number which is why they are used as tools lol. As for the numbers corrected who cares if they are corrected at the end of the day when you go racing you will realize whether or not your car is what the dyno numbers are telling you. Cry me a river
