I feel like Tim is too focused on everything being as interconnected as the MCU, crossovers don’t have to be as deeply engrained, it’s okay if Godzilla and Kong just walk up to each other now and then.
This is my main gripe with the MCU. Not everything has to follow that formula. It’s dumbed down people’s way of thinking about franchises and sequels now. As soon as people started saying Star Wars should be more like the MCU, that’s when I knew things were going south.
I think it’s justified because that’s literally why this movie exists because everyone was trying to copy Marvel. So I think it’s fair to judge it by those standards if it’s not completely stand alone like for example Joker was. 😊
I actually agree with him because part of the worst parts of these movies are the human characters, and that’s mostly because we have to keep setting up whole new casts of characters every movie. In the very least, making them interconnected would let us just dive right into the action.
I agree the human plots have been dumb in all the monsterverse movies. I personally don't care how interconnected they are. The monster fights are what people come to see and in that aspect they delivered with this movie.
Bless you, Kevin. If I knew the words "No, his family EMIGRATED to Skull Island. They're from the HOLE." were about to leave my body, I would have immediately died laughing. 🤣
This is exactly what I wanted out this movie. Godzilla FTW! Loved how Ghidorah mechagodzilla tried to get Godzilla back with the same move from the last movie. I like that this could be an end to the franchise, but also gave an opportunity to explore more if they want. This purely is a popcorn movie and that's what I expected it to be.
As a Canadian who survived the Godzilla Saskatchewan Rampage of '04, i'm glad this isn't available to us. Luckily I managed to watch it on youtube and have been riding the PTGD (post traumatic Godzilla disorder) ever since.
If it’s not an MCU movie these guys are all over the place. This was a popcorn movie, that’s it. It was super entertaining and they are knit picking it like it was nominated for Best Picture and they can’t believe it and need to rip it to shreds because of it.
Haven't watched all of this episode yet but I get the feeling that Greg's negativity towards anything thats action based has rubbed off on these guys as the in review series has gone on
I don’t know. Seemed pretty accurate to me. The movie is a 7/10. It’s fine. Above average. Great action and set pieces. Awful plot and writing, and really poor acting from some main characters. Skull island had a much better plot with way better writing and acting. It’s a better all-around movie even if you like GvK more.
Also, my comment from the other day. Was actually written in my sleep 😂😂 I must of fell asleep listening to this and rolled my face on to my phone and somehow wrote a comment. Just thought you should all know 😂😂👍🏻
One thing I thought the 2014 movie nailed was Godzilla’s scale. He felt really massive in that one. I agree with Andy that he got kinda nerfed. I want to see what Edwards would have done with a Godzilla 2: Mecha-Cranston
In what way was anything about this movie restrained? We get space ships following Kong to the center of the earth where he sucks a dragon head, finds a god level throne room, and activates a mythological weapon made from Godzilla's dead grandpa. Then we get Kong and Godzilla having the single most hype battle in cinematic history. And then we get not only Mechagodzilla, but Mechagodzilla piloted by king Ghidora's crystal skulls.... Tim... what the fuck does it take to please you? This was genuinely the coolest thing ever.
If it's not as stupid as being invincible because of cars and family or as interconnected as teasing 5 movies ahead of it's self like MCU then it's not good in any way. Sometimes I think the only one who is consistent in these is Nick and Greg. Everyone else is just a bad day away from thinking everything is amazing or terrible.
This movie is so ridiculous that I actually thought they were about to shake hands at the end. I actually enjoyed this one quite a bit and I think them embracing the pure insanity of this works in its favor quite a bit.
Tim just wants everything to be the MCU when it comes to franchises of somewhat connected films. Yet when they are MCU like connections, he complains about it. What do you even like Tim?
I LOVED this movie. I could not believe when Greg and Andy were like “watched it once, no desire to watch it ever again.” I saw it in the theater, and had a blast. Yes, it’s dumb. But it’s so entertaining!
Jumping right in here to say, Tim isn't thinking straight. Why are we doing Ball of Fury to fill the Mortal Kombat hole, when there is a legit good Mortal Kombat animated movie we can watch?! This makes no sense to me. Please explain Tim!
Just wanna take this time to say how much I love Greg. Tim seemed really over this in review and a little upset with some of the shots he was getting from the rest of the guys especially at the end and Greg just kills any tension with his hilarious naked under water questions. You are the best Greg! 😂
Did you guys never watch the Japanese movies? This is probably better than any story from those movies. These are pop corn flicks you're not getting oscar movies 🤣
I would only disagree when comparing these ones to the original Japanese film, and Shin Godzilla. But both of those films have a purpose, and message behind them.
Lol I enjoyed this movie but it doesn’t have a better story than OG Godzilla. But yea a lot of the Japanese sequels are silly and dumb. Very similar to this one.
I’d love to see a Video Game Movies In Review as I feel like there are plenty of one off movies that are based on video games so this could be a great and easy way for the KF guys to review the Mario Bros film and many other movies like it 👍🏻
Say what you will about these movies, their cinematography and visuals are top tier. Also the company that did pacific rim did the visuals for this movie which explains why that night city fight so stunning.
Im certain that half an hour of this film was cut out either in editing or abandoned before post production to get it down to a solid hour and a half. Most likely stuff involving monarch seeing as Lance Reddick and Kyle Chandler are in the opening credits yet only show up in two very short scenes.
Some of the best monster action put on screen. That being said, I want better plots with the human characters and I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for both.
Godzilla movies have always had a certain kind of goofiness to them that I felt the last two was missing, do I'm glad to see that this movie brought that into it
The way people are so warped around the idea of connected universes is sooooo dangerous. People aren't realising that studios are now just implementing the television formula which is a financial bombshell for them because they just now charge people more to watch episodes of a tv show and call it a 'connected universe'. And it doesn't matter how bad a movie is, because in a 'connected universe' they always promise for the future and it's all apparent set up (which never really is) to suck people in for sequels that also promise for the future and consists of even more set up.
man the comment section is ridiculous. Tim wanting the movies to follow the plotlines that they set forth more faithfully is a valid criticism, especially since that is the kinda universe they were presenting when making these movies. and he still enjoyed the film! yall take one point of critique and act like someone's entire opinion is just that. also people bringing up that its "just a popcorn flick" what exactly do you think the MCU is? there are great popcorn flicks, good ones, ok ones and bad ones. This probably sits around the good-ok range but theres nothing wrong with wanting more than that.
That junkie XL version of the Godzilla theme was so fucking hype. I saw it in a theater w Dolby atmos and it was incredible to listen to. This movie is stupid but it’s also titled “Godzilla V Kong” so i think it should be stupid. I absolutely loved it. But you could have deleted the entire millie brown plotline and it would be better
Kong gave the Gman a headshot to the head and shook it off. I'm calling bullshit. The axe 🪓 was found in a Godzilla head. One must admit plot armour. I hope, at the very least ,Gman has a headache for 6 weeks.
The action in this movie was fun but my first thought was literally about how they for some reason arent looking into the billion dollar company that Godzilla attacked. No one seemed suspicious of them, which makes 0 sense to me
Watched it last night. Postives: - Its gorgeous to look at, especially in 4K - Big spectacle fights makes me miss the cinema so much - Kong is King. Little deaf girl is queen Negatives: - The rest of the movie
Ya'll need to stop expecting every franchise to be the MCU. Hell, a lot of the MCU films aren't even that good, regardless of well connected everything is. Kevin was clearly in the right about shit like Charles Dance's group from KotM procuring Ghidorah's head for Apex. Sure, they could've had a line in there, with the CEO of Apex explaining that, but they didn't, and it doesn't matter. Yeah, there are too many humans, but that's every monster movie. If you want actually good stories in your Godzilla films, then there's only a couple to really recommend. The original 1954 film, and 2016's Shin Godzilla, from Hideaki Anno, the Evangelion creator). Most of the Godzilla franchise is just dumb fun, with a surprising amount of heart. Why can't it just stay that way? And to answer Kevin, Godzilla only went after Kong, because Kong is another Alpha level Titan, like he is. The scientist literally said that before they moved Kong off of Skull Island.
The CGI is obviously better in the new movies, but most of the older movies were about the monsters and the humans had no back story (obviously not the Kong movies). If they are going to reboot this series, do something with these actors. There were so many moments I wanted to fast forward because I hate the humans.
What's there to understand? It's just a bunch of excuses to have big monsters fighting, this isn't some complex nuanced plot that you would ever think about after the credits roll, you just turn your brain off and enjoy some good ass action
Godzilla and Kong Vs Pacific Rim let’s go! It’s been awhile since I saw the first one but I’m pretty sure the Kaiju in Pacific Rim were from a different dimension so they’ve already established alternate universes in that movie.
Can we all just agree that seeing Kong dropkick Godzilla through a building was one of the greatest moments in movie history? Wasn't this a thing that happened in the original Godzilla vs. Kong movie? Along with Godzilla (actually) laughing at Kong, after he got em with his atomic breath? Talk about the disrespect #home
Would love to see a Guy Ritchie In Review, mostly because I want to see Tim Nick and Kevin losing their minds over the gangster jargon and action sequences.
Went to see this at the theatre last night (in NZ, I'm safe). I wouldn't want to watch this on a small screen, it would be a completely different experience. It wasn't a fantastic movie, but it was great as a dumb cinema experience. Edit: A prequel to this movie would be great where it shows Godzilla and Kong going through the March madness bracket of Kaiju!
Man, I really wish these guys would go into these movies with the same mindset as when they watch a fast and furious movie. Just turn off your brain and let all logic go out the window for these movies. Not everything has to be connected super tightly weaved together like MCU. Just Go into these movies expecting not great dialogue/characters and go for the visual stimulation. Btw love kevs energy in this
You hit the nail on the head. They’re so weird sometimes. It seems they pick and choose what franchise to drill and which ones not to. Fast and Furious always seems to get a slide from them. Which just makes them seem completely bias and puts down their criticism.
@@1EndlessDream OR Fast and Furious actually understands what it is and grows in all the right ways and when other franchises don't do that we have critical feedback.
@@kindafunny It also (to me at least) it took Fast & The Furious at least 4 movies before it understood that. So, The Monsterverse is still on the right track.
Bro Godzilla is older than most comic book superheroes and shows. Quit comparing it to the MCU, this movie was like a dope ass stuffed crust pepperoni pizza.
I didn’t get all the way through. Someone please tell me Nick commented that Kong Martin Riggs’ed the shit out of shoulder putting it back in place ???
I feel like these movies are all microwave entertainment, where you watch it the first time and your expectations are exceeded, but the more times you return to it, the films goodwill degrades.
I like that Nick calls the pilot of Mecca Godzilla pilot, he does know that the character is Ren Serizawa the son of Ken Watanabe's Dr. Ishirō Serizawa from Godzilla: King of Monsters right?
This movie was tons of fun. It had so much style helped with its beautiful lighting and cinematography. While the characters are admittedly not great, the group of scientists with the young girl were by far the best because of the emotional connection to Kong. Putting much more of the focus on Kong was also a great decision. Undoubtedly best of the series.
not every connected film universe needs to be MCU, and it was impossible to make this an Avengers moment film with the writing we’ve seen in the past. They did the best they possibly could by dropping the serious nature and embracing a dumb campy sci-fi plot
Am I insane? They talk about how good the fight scenes are in King of the monsters and regular Godzilla...but there like...aren’t any in KotM!? Every time they’re about to fight...it cuts away. Or covers it up. I’ll never forget the money I realized this and how egregious it was was when Godzilla comes back after getting the nuke refresh, and goes to face Ghidorah again, and JUST as they clash...a plane descend covering them from our view. There’s very very little of any actual fighting you see between Godzilla and other monsters in the other movies. This one actually delivers that and actually has them have WAY more screen time than the other movies combined. Easily the best of the movies for what I’m looking for. Godzilla fighting Kong. I mean this movie should be 1 jut for the scene where Godzilla gets on all fours and just goes crazy on Kong.
I was wondering why in the Credits Lethal Weapon 2 showed up next to the other monsterverse movies but Nock explaining the shoulder thing makes it all make sense
Tim is the only one who I agree with on this one. The humans are so bad in this movie that they were distracting and their actions were so ridiculous it seems like the director decided what big set pieces he wanted and told the writers he didn't care at all how we got to them or if it made any sense at all.
The plot did not matter although it could of as Tim said this was lead up by four movies. One of the main gripes for me was that the only way Godzilla could kill Ghidora was to completely obliterate it to dust. So how the F do they have its skull? Also where were all the other monsters? If you forget the plot its an OK monster fight movie.
9:32 wrong it's not Tokyo it's Hong Kong. 22:36 nah it's just a lot of continuity errors Godzilla is still bigger then Kong. The only reason why he manage to stand on the aircraft carrier is because he was bending his knee's
I really enjoyed this movie. Lot of weird cuts and no explanation to things(what did they do with Kong after he kills mecha?) But dumb stuff aside i had a blast
@@Kal-El_138 no i know that im saying how? It just jump cuts to him there and i thought the same when he was passed out on the boat then all of a sudden theyre in Antarctica
Imagine tryin to be critical of a movie that is just a vehicle to watch giant monsters fight. But then again if it was only monsters theyd complain there were no human character moments.
@59.00 Kevin has a legit point on how Kong doesn’t have an atomic power, not sure why the others, especially Tim, made it seem like a dumb point. Tim really seems to dislike Kevin these days, kind of annoying. Keep doing you Kev
Also Kev, the tunnels to Hollow Earth have the gravity wells that put you in Hollow Earth. But they are tunnels, there's not a whole hollow portion of the earth (other than the tunnels) with a portal that takes you to a whole other hollow portion. Lol so if Godzilla does the atomic breath straight down and just misses a tunnel, I think that's plausible. They showed a map of all the tunnels and inner section of the earthat some point....
I totally agree with Tim this ended well and let's keep it that way. Plus they should reboot and stop copying mcu and start fresh with the new tone they sent in Godzilla vs Kong
Wtf Tim, this is a series running on fumes for the longest times. Dump on the cartoon a little less. And the DC comparison... DC wishes that could even come close to the monster verse. If anything this review feels like you guys are trying too hard to have hot takes. Really makes me question watching more in reviews.
