Director Adam Wingard discusses filming #GodzillaXKong for IMAX. Experience the biggest team-up in cinematic history featuring IMAX’s exclusive Expanded Aspect Ratio. Starting March 29. www.imax.com/godzillakong
This guy gets it. He's one of us. He understands what it means to be a Kaiju Fan. The Kaijus are the Main Attraction. Kudos to Mr. Wingard. Go out & support this movie! Help make it earn a Billion or at least close to it. This movie needs to be a success so we can get more. An entire Saga of it like Marvel.
"The kaijus are the main attraction." Yes. But there's a difference between being "the main attraction" and actually being THE selling point of a film. That's not how film has EVER worked, my dude. The original Godzilla in 1954 was the main attraction, and yet his success and popularity didn't start to rise until the mid 60's when they started doing the versus films. Why? Because the monster alone was not enough to make the films worth watching. There had to be more. There had to be some kind of story behind why the monsters were there and why they were fighting. The best and most popular films in the franchise, minus the Monsterverse, all have at least a semi-compelling reason for the monsters to fight. The OG King Kong vs Godzilla features Kong taken from his home and FORCED to fight Godzilla. Mothra vs Godzilla was a mother protecting her children from the evils of humanity and both her and her offspring being caught in the crossfire of Godzilla vs humanity. Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II through Godzilla vs Destoroyah was a father and son just trying to live their lives and constantly being forced into horrible situations by humanity's interference with either them, nature, or both. Minus One, the most critically successful film in the entire franchise's history, was about who? Not Godzilla. He was the draw. But the reason people saw the film was the STORY of the main character suffering from war trauma. Behind every one of the most successful Godzilla films in the franchise's history is what? Say it with me now. A STORY. Everyone who says "I don't care about the story, I just want the monsters," literally doesn't know the franchise they claim to be a fan of. You're not a Godzilla fan if you're just there for the monsters. You're a casual fan of action/destruction films. That's all.
@@TWDub Lmao this fuckin dork actually replied with an essay. Since you like to assume about me let me do the same. The reason why a lot of Monsterverse fans & Minus One fans can't get a long is cause of 🤡s like you who probably sit all day in front of your computer diligently looking for comments like mine all over social media ready to reply with a freakin essay like a Geek. Since I'm such a Casual Fan how do I know how well Wingard & Takashi the director of Minus One which a movie I love by the way. That they actually get along well & I wish they would work on a Kaiju film together in the future. Maybe I can't name all the Kaiju films chronologically like you can like a Geek, but I'm a big fan of the genre & have watched all the classic films in it. So you go stay in your high horse flexing that you know everything bout the genre & assuming you know everything about Monsterverse fans like me, like A Geek. & I'll go Support & Enjoy this movie, & movies like Minus One all the same like a Real Fan without needing to try & educate everybody who don't have the exact same outlook as me. Like A Geek.
@@TWDubwhile you are correct to a degree, not entirely but yes mostly. There's actually more of an explanation given by the humans currently in the MV than alot of the Showa films, which is what Wingard is inspired by. While you imply story pretty heavily, I think a distinction needs to be made for a movie like minus one (story driven) and the MV (kaiju focused) with humans serving as telling us what's going on. That's the point. I certainly wouldn't want the same blueprint across the board. Minus one shines BECAUSE of its story and serious tone, the MV movies shine because of the fan service/campy action homage/easter eggs to previous movies. I absolutely love that we have both currently. I grew up with Godzilla and I've seen at least half of them all more than once and the MV Is by far my favorite. What you're saying is gatekeeping at its finest because people aren't seeing and experiencing these as they "should". Entertainment is entirely subjective.
If Adam Wingard is reading this, know that I loved Godzilla vs. Kong so much that I cried. Ive never cried watching a giant monster movie. I was brought to tears seeing my favorite characters on the big screen.
Adam Wingard said: "They never became friends after Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla let Kong go that time and told him not to show his face again." They don't have to like each other. They just have to work together. MonsterVerse Godzilla guards the earth. He's not a good or evil monster.
@@ShHeMiLeRe MonsterVerse Godzilla isn't neither a hero nor a villain. But rather an anti-hero, he's a force of nature and only cares about the natural order.
@@IanDanielCassidy That's some wishy washy response. Even Wingard called him a hero. If he's not then neither is Kong. Or Mothra. Not putting humanity front and center of everything doesn't negate their benelovence. Godzilla is aware of humans and doesn't want them gone but his priority is saving the world first and foremost. Tie in material makes his thoughts on humanity clear. As far as I'm concerned either we call him a hero (sure, make him "anti" hero which is basically a hero with an edge) or no monster is. He's no "force of nature" Legacy of Monsters spent and entire scene discussing that it's not the case and that Godzilla is thinking and aware of his actions. So not a plush toy, not someone whose actions don't cause any harm, not someone who considers humanity the most important thing in the world but someone who still does good things nevertheless regardless of his own safety.

Most likely because of copyright laws, I don’t even think they own the right to King Kong and had to compromise just for Kong, hopefully they’ll get the rights though@@wogardrodriguez2671
I don’t think enough people know how crazy this movie is gonna be: Kong isn’t the last of his species, and finds has a student/son There’s a beast bigger than Ghidorah as a villain Tiamat and Skylla are not only in the movie, they battle Godzilla Godzilla and Kong team up for much longer than last time There are multiple scenes of only monsters and no humans Kong gets a variation of his lightning powers from the ‘60’s movie And finally Mothra makes her return That’s crazy for only one movie 💀
Since Wingard is a big fan of Vs. HEDORAH & DESTOROYAH i think it's likely one of the two or something inspired by them (maybe even both if Toho feels generous) is gonna be the next villain
I feel like Toho will be very protective over Destroyoah's rights..I want him in so bad but he was meant to be a one time thing which does make sense for his situation back in the day. I really think they'd drive a hard bargain to get him over here in our hands, that would be a big challenge or the best outcome that they'd be hyped we wanna use him.
For the love of all things holy and unholy in the world, I hope not. Destoroyah was cool in the Toho films. But he literally doesn't work in the Monsterverse. Just because the OD (a prototype of it, at least) was used on Godzilla doesn't suddenly mean Destoroyah's a possibility. That kind of narrow-minded and non-critical thinking BS needs to die.
Hedorah would lead into Biollante and then Destoroyah pretty easily imo just on their powers/stoey relevance and villain scaling. You could fit in quite a few others with those as the main
These films are Showa Showdown Shenanigans for hardcore Godzilla Fans. Also great interview that allowed for some great insight into these awesome films.
They did say that because of the success of Godzilla vs. Kong 2021 that were going to see Interesting Installments in Future Movies and its clear that GXK: The New Empire is the 1st movie of these Interesting Installments.
They could make More Crossover movies not just a Trilogy but we could also see a Destroy all Monsters Part 1 and 2 movies showing an Alien Invasion, Future Godzilla and Kong solo movies, and Future Live-Action and Animated Monsterverse TV Shows.
Godzilla would glide back into the ocean, knowing the ocean that the ocean knew that the surface world was his dominion, while Kong would toddle off to rule the subterranean Hollow Earth. MonsterVerse Godzilla kind of tells Kong, "All right, I'll let you go this time."But I don't want to see you around part of these parts again, and if I do, there's going to be trouble." According to Adam Wingard.
Pray Adam Wingard not only gets to make another Kong and Godzilla movie but because the head guy of the monsterverse. Dude is a badass. Also we need Hans zimmer to score a monsterverse movie.
I like Mr Wingard's ideas tho on how he can brings those two types of elements about the Two Kings's Job as The Protector but also can be emotional Support too for The Human Characters Like Kong is the easiest to relate because he can communicate with Humans and Understand them, while Godzilla also same, he can understand Humans, but he's more focused on his job as The Guardian Of Earth and Nature itself, that's why he's more serious, and i like how Wingard could blend that Elements in the Movie tho, and that was Creative if you think about it Can't wait to see the Next Sequel To their team up tho at least... We need more Godzilla and Kong ✨🔥 hope Bear McCreary could also return at least
Cinemas in Ontario Canada only had 2-3 days to play Godzilla v Kong before the very last month of Covid closures. Definitely impacted the box office. Happy WB is going ultra wide for this release.
"Once you put Godzilla and Kong together, you can’t take them apart, but they’re never gonna get along really all that well. They both have too big of egos, and so what’s fun about them is that even when they do team-up, there’s always gonna be this sort of uneasy truce to it all.” - Adam Wingard/GxK Imax HQ Press Event
Been following this guy (and his writer pal Simon Barrett, who was a cowriter on this new film) since his horror film You're Next came out. Its so rad to see him super successful and having a good time. Hope they give him that third film. Also bring back the tumblr Adam!
I love Adam Wingard since I watched the special features for Godzilla vs. Kong also having watched it with his commentary. Up until Godzilla vs. Kong it had been awhile since I saw a movie in the theater and that was a normal screening which that movie was my introduction into the Monsterverse. I just saw Dune: Part Two and during the previews saw the trailer for GXK so I got a taste and I believe Dune: Part Two was my first movie that I saw in IMAX. I'm so seeing GXK in IMAX and got to say I have faith right now in Warner Brother's and Legendry's movies.
If Adam Wingard Would Direct Godzilla and Kong I Want is Godzilla Having More Screentime Than Kong: Over 35 Minutes of Screentime Kong Sharing Screentime For Godzilla: Over 33 Minutes I Want Godzilla and Kong To Be 125 Minutes Long Not 117 or 118 Minutes Just 125 Minutes Two Minutes Longer Than Gareth Edward's Dark Version And Hedorah Will Be The Main Antagonist and Mechani-Kong as The Secondary Antagonist
why isn't this movie playing in any of the true imax's near me? I'm so confused when we're seeing interviews like this for imax on imax's channel, imax is in the proms, yet its not playing in any, least in my area and its a major moviegoing area which makes no sense to me. This movie is made for imax, some just truly magnificent and jaw dropping shots that would've been incredible to experience in imax.
One of the best IMAX AMC theaters in Boston has always played Godzilla in IMAX... but this year it's not in IMAX and they have a poster of it saying filmed for IMAX... but no tickets for IMAX....
Okay, IMAX, WHY aren't THE true IMAX theaters like Regal Opery Mills in Nashville, The Omnimax in St.Louis (I mean yeah It's a part of the science center but they showed Dune 2? Why Not GxK?), and a lot of other true IMAX theaters that have the dual 4K Laser projectors and correct aspect ratios, NOT showing GxK when theres all this promo to see it in IMAX because It was filmed for IMAX - like I don't get it... This film should be pushed and released in ALL IMAX theaters, not mainly the ones with the lower quality projection and incorrect aspect ratios... Plz make it happen. All of the IMAX theaters closest to me are... not good.
@@SinisterFredXGojiEditz they’re mad that the character most famous for dying to 1930s airplanes didn’t win against the nuclear bomb consuming, fire breathing, radioactive dinosaur?
@@SinisterFredXGojiEditz I think the reason why they hate him is that basically Adam is a huge biased Godzilla fan and made the entirety of gvk just to settle a argument with a friend in the 2nd or 4th grade. He also casually makes ridiculous statements in his interviews, one of them is saying Godzilla would have survived mg's kiss of death despite it incinerating his armor.
Not enough brains in the latest movie. I'm a diehard Godzilla fan, but I need my brain to be activated. If it's just colorful CGI and loud sounds I get bored. I hope this does not spell the end for our beloved Goji.
In ancient iwi myths, zo zla hawa an ancient Godzilla species member ate a star and turned evil which caused both godzilla and kongs to united against him and banish him, Could this be a possible way to introduce space godzilla? What do you think.
A writer confirmed that's just a fable, it's not exactly a true story. I think it's just the way the iwi explain the Godzilla species atomic breath ability, like how the Bible explains why snakes have no legs. Cause Zo-zla halawa is just the iwi's name for Godzilla's species.
