Overview
With our plans cancelled due to covid, we decided that we would take off for a 4-night road trip to Mudgee and our first stop was Hill end and WOW, what a way to start our trip.
Hill End a lovely once bustling gold town (1871-1874), there is so much history and thanks to some amazing photography done by a guy named Merlin using wet plate method, you get a real glimpse into Hill End during the boom times. Through the centre of town, the buildings may not remain, but thanks to Merlins talents we get a good idea of the vibe of this hardcore hope-filled town.
Holtermann was a rich german gentleman who fiance much of the town, paid for the services of Merlin and is attributed to finding the famous Holtermann Nugget - the largest single piece of reef gold ever discovered in the world was found by workers of the Star of Hope Mining Company at Hill End.
We enjoyed walking the streets and learning even if we had to get our imaginations going. Hill End is under the care and management of National Parks in NSW and it is really easy to wander around.
We also dropped into the History Hill Museum and Mine on our way in, this was a good experience with lots of artifacts and a 170-metre replica mine shaft to walk through. Please note they only take cash.
Our last spot to visit was Merlins lookout, close to this spot Merlin capture a great photo of the mine from across the valley.
If you venture out to the area (an easy drive from either Mudgee or Bathurst), do yourself a favour and visit Hill End. Hill End is around 3.5 hours from Sydney.
Travel Brilliantly,
Kerryn

It's good to discover the pearls in one's own backyard. Nice location. Interesting facts. I'm a fan of open air museums. Specially those 'manned' by volunteers dressed in period clothing and breathing life into the story. I'd not heard of this village before. Feel informed. Thanks for sharing. 👍 🎥 ❤️ 🙋‍♀️

I like the way you compare old time and nowadays in video. Didn’t see much people there. Hope we can get back to normal life that we can go out and enjoy. Thanks for sharing.

It was busy for summer because people have to stay in nsw and can’t go to the coast as easily, but it was not packed.

Thanks for watching, having the photos in the place of the buildings really helped to get how vibrant the town was during the gold rush days.

It is strange how some places are anti filming. It is facilitating to see how life was back then. Keep safe you two. 👍🌈🎥

Thank you, yes the primary school; incident still holds very real memories, but it was all part of going to school in the seventies and why you don't see things types of play equipment very often any more.

Interesting to see what the original functions was of those buildings such as the blacksmith. The burger looks indeed pretty decent.

The guy didn't want you to take photos of the exhibits because they were valuable ? - I thought viewing exhibits in a museum was the reason for a museum to even exist. I totally don't get it. More likely they sell photos of the exhibits - why he didn't just say the true reason.

I guess that is their discussion, but yes honesty is always the best option. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Have you been to Hill End?

@@SapphireBlueTravelExplores I am not a tourist. I used to travel Victoria when I was younger when I enjoyed fishing and camping. I prefer someone else make the effort and I watch what they found. I myself tended to miss the attractions for whatever reason. I have been to Sydney and never seen no Bridge or opera house. Just was too stupid to put them on my agenda when I had the opportunity. Planning makes perfect they say . That expains why I am where I am , but doesn't explain why I don't.

Great place to visit, but messy video badly edited and moving too fast, with some boring bits.

Thank you for taking the time to comment and help me to know how to improve, Learning the art of storytelling and editing are massive things to learn and I hope one day you will find a video I have created that you enjoy, for now, I am continuing to learn all the crafts and wish you will as you grind in video producing. Hil;l end is great and well worth a visit, I am so glad we visited and could show off this amazing part of Australian history (even if the production can be improved). Have a wonderful day and thanks for taking the time to comment.

@@SapphireBlueTravelExplores Kudos for reacting in the way that you did. The criticism was somewhat blunt , but got the message across. Did not really help in identifying the particular sections that may have needed assistance. I just say - ask yourself 'What is the purpose of this tape? " - If it fulfilled it , then keep doing what you are doing
