@@AVAstronomy I just finished off about 7 hours of M101 - I hope. I haven't looked at the data yet to see if it's good enough to quit. And at the moment, I have zero narrowband projects in the works - I can't find any targets, lol.

It’s that time of year bud. I’m in the same boat not many galaxy targets left on my list to reach. Just did three hours on M101 myself last night, hoping to get at least 3 to 4 more hours tonight. I enjoy Galaxy season but I’m ready to capture some nebulae!

You definitely can calibrate over multiple nights. First calibrate each night individually and then star align them together then integrate them all. I do this all the time. It’s really easy in pix insight.

Thanks Robert. Yeah, I sold the RC8 a while back. Switching up my rig for now but will definitely get back to an RC design at a later time, hopefully a 10" next time. They make great galaxy scopes but can be a bear to collimate.

Great Video, which camera are you using as your main imaging camera for this imaging session? I see the ASI120MM mini guide cam listed but no mention of the main camera. I really enjoy your media, easy to follow! BTW- I have a very similar rig; Bresser 152mm Maksutov-Newtonian, EQ6R-Pro, ASI183MC Pro Cooled, ZWO 2" Filter Drawer, Optolong l-eXtreme, Orion 50mm Deluxe Guide Scope, ASI290MM Mini, ZWO ASIair Pro, ZWO EAF, Pegasus Dew Heater Controller, AstroZap Dew Heater Straps, ZWO Camera Dew Heater. I love the Mak-Newt! I use a HoTech 2" SCA Laser Collimator (wish I had the Howie Glatter). Do you use a Cheshire to center the secondary prior to collimating the primary?
@AVAstronomy
@AVAstronomy 3 года назад
Hi Gary, I was using the QHY165C camera. That’s a nice setup you have there. I just use my Howie flatter for collimation. The secondary is nicely centered but initially yes, I believe I used my Cheshire. Clear skies!

I was going to mention, it's best not to crop until after you have combined the Ha and the colour data, but you said that near the end. Great video. Is your data available so we may practice your processing workflow?

Thanks Rick! I may add a link later to the data.

Can you help me understand what you are doing in the last step of your color boost with the curves adjustment on the background layer? You said you've "always done it this way, it was the way your were taught and it seems to help" - what are you doing and why?? Thanks - great video and image!
@AVAstronomy

Hi Suzanne, that curves adjustment is an old Jerry Lodrigoss technique. Thanks for watching. Happy New year!

Would you be willing to share the raw tiffs? I’d like to play with it. If I decided to share it I would plug your channel, but I really just want to experiment. In addition to that I’ve been thinking about getting a mono zwo2600. I have been using a 70d and have considered going the cooled route. I’ve been stuck on either getting a color or mono, but it doesn’t seem to make sense to get a color since I already have a dslr. Mono seems to be what many people go to anyway.

Thanks for your video. Maybe I'm hearing wrong. But you took your pictures with a color camera OSC? And you have been capturing data for 5 hours in Ha, also with your OSC? If I'm right. does it work so properly with Ha filter on that camera. Many say that Ha filter on OSC is not working properly. I use OSC myself but would not put money in such a filter if it does not work. Regards Esben from Denmark
@AVAstronomy
@AVAstronomy 3 года назад
Yes you are correct. I used an L-extreme filter to capture the Ha data.
@davidharris8037
@davidharris8037 3 года назад
Aaron, nice work. This video has been very helpful for me to use the same technique to mask in the Ha with broadband data for galaxies where I only the Ha going to the galaxy, not the stars. A question-I see from your equipment list that you don’t have a straight Ha filter listed, so did you use a triband or quadband filter with your one shot color cam for the Ha data here? That would explain all the color in your Ha image. I’m using a clip in Ha filter in a DSLR for the Ha data & wondering what, if anything would change when masking in pure Ha into the broadband image? Go Dawgs. Like all the Georgia gear in the background of your videos.
@AVAstronomy
@AVAstronomy 3 года назад
Hi David, glad you found the video helpful. Am Ha filter will do well with a modded dslr or OSC camera. I used the l-extreme filter which is essentially a narrow triband filter. Go Dawgs!!

I really enjoy your videos but really I don't get why you keep the thumbnail of the camera showing you while processing. You made a reference to M82 at the end of the video but we couldn't see it because it was behind the thumbnail. So to me your videos would be even better in full screen.
@AVAstronomy
@AVAstronomy 3 года назад
Not sure what part you are referring. M82 is visible just to the right of the thumbnail. I keep the thumbnail of me talking because overall people find it more interactive, at least that’s based on personal feedback. I’ll take it into consideration though, maybe make it smaller. Thanks for watching and clear skies!
@rettop172

@@AVAstronomy From about 17:44 on during your final edits M82 is behind you so we can't see the whole image as you are tweaking it.
