it doesn’t matter if viewers agree or disagree with your actions on the lake that day. They can’t take away your transparency and the fact you didn’t edit anything. I understand both perspectives. Keep doing you guys! I kinda wish you dealt with it differently but you didn’t lose me as a viewer because of it. We should be able to disagree on things and have a constructive conversation about it! People are soft these days 🤦🏻‍♂️

2 favorite bass podcasts combined!! Definitely do this again, maybe a series! Chris, I fish Lake Murray a lot. Ever since the Elite Event in 2023 the lake has gotten wild AF! I’ve shared a single point with 3 other boats. I’ve lost fish because of another boats proximity and the bent rod pattern is the biggest pattern on the lake. That guy was a POS and you had every right to be there. Next time pull up beside him and go to work!

Customer Service! One of the best companies I ever dealt with in the fishing industry was Eagle. I had met Tom Mann years ago. I had a unit go bad. They sent me a new unit up front . They also enclosed packaging to return the defective unit postage paid. Total trust in the customer!

Me personally I would have been excited just to be fishing around Chris. It’s not like he was going to sit there the whole tourney and catch every fish on the point or trash the spot. It’s part of fishing sharing water. I don’t know how many times I’d heard don’t be afraid to fish behind someone.

Unfortunately in N TX all the lakes have tournaments on any given Sat or Sun. No way can I keep up with all the tournaments. I do try to talk to other boater and if they are fishing a tournament I'll yield the spot but drop a waypoint for sure. Friendly fishing I'll try to fish behind and never cut someone off or jump in front. Good Ole courtesy can go a long way
@mattowens719

Chris don't apologize for shit. He knew you had been fishing that spot, he had live going on his phone. He started cussing you, nobody has to sit there and be cussed. Anybody who says he should apologize and he is wrong, YOU are the problem. I've been tournament fishing for over 25 years, everything from local derby to Nations to bfls and even everstarts back in the day. The one thing I have never done is go to a lake where a big tournament is going on. If I was there practicing or looking around and even a club tournament was going on and I seen someone fishing ,I didn't go there. Maybe more people should get off the bent rod pattern and find your own shit. If one of the major organizations is fishing there, go to another lake that day but don't get in there way. That's how they make there living. I wouldn't let anyone cuss me like that and nobody else would either. He allowed his other buddy on the other side of the spot so all they was basically doing was trying to keep the pros off of it. There is to may people willing to jump on celebrities or pros telling them what they do is wrong but nit calling out the other ones. That's bullshit...local was in the wrong this time..sorry

The other thing that gets missed by pros, (especially Watson), is this idea that feeder trails adding something somehow takes away from the pros. BPT and Elites pay out way more than 100%, and the feeder orgs are 80% payback at best. The lower leagues truly do fund the top level

Two of my favorites. Chris, you’ve apologized so you’re good in my mind. Random anglers should give the pros the right of way, I try not to fish when a big tournament is going on and like Luke said I’d just go to another lake if I know there is a tournament.

The problem with "pro" fishing is that you play on the same field that us mortals play on. It's not like golf or baseball or football where you have to be extraordinary to play on that field. I mean I might have been decent as a pitcher when I was 12 but I'll never play at Wrigley. You guys are the best at what you do no doubt but you will always have the hotshot for that lake +15 more that think they are the pro for that lake and think they are better than you yet they couldn't compete with a full years schedule. Keep doing what your doing Chris and the Lord shall smile on you

Ya all hate MLF - it’s been very clear that is personal to you all. So when you all talk about MLF it’s clearly with bias. You can hear the excitement in your voice about anglers leaving MLF and coming back to BASS. You can’t even hide your hate. You all are also weirdly sensitive… You are bringing attention to the sport by having this pod. With that is going to come scrutiny - both positive and negative.

One day on Ky Lake, i was heading into a pocket, and some guys were smack dab in the middle, but the mouth was about 200yrds across, and i still came off the plane. I was prob 50yds away and waived when i passed, and the guy throws up his hand like im a dick and ran over where he was fishing. I enjoy the podcast and luke very much . The guest are terrific. Chris needs to take his medicine. Shows no remorse and is very arrogant. He should be suspended for a year from pro fishing. How would paul Elias or hank Parker handled that? Probably very different. His actions are a poor example to the anglers who inspire to be pro fishermen .

It's not just Wheeler, it's rampant amongst the pros. There's no way a pro with only 3 days of practice finds the one spot on a 70,000 acre lake and smashes them. MLF came to my neck of the woods 3 years ago and I'm well known at the prime local tackle shop since I'm on the water every week. Sure enough I get contacted by a well known pro who would like to take me out to go fishing with him ... "hey I've heard from so and so that you're one of the big sticks around here and was wondering if you might be interested in going fishing with me while I'm here" ... yeah right. Even though I don't follow pro fishing I had a feeling it was well inside the "no info" period. What a surprise, I wasn't available to go ...

@@Mjones8383 the problem with me giving his name is that nothing illegal actually happened. So I have no way of knowing if this guy knew the elites were there or not. I will say that the majority of my fishing friends do not follow any pro fishing events or circuits. There is always the possibility that he/or some other anglers may not be aware of events on the lakes. Some of the lakes have multiple events every week, so people in the area may not think anything of it. Its their day off and they are going fishing. Lets not just assume that every angler knows or follows the Elite Series, they dont. That said, when events are going on I try to stay off that body of water. If thats not possible and I dont have another option, Ill go out later so that they can get to where they want to go and then I fish areas none of them are around.

I've always wondered about that, asked a couple people on other platforms recently with no response. would make sense to do some kind of advertising in the neighboring towns and for sure at the boat ramps on the lake. A lot of people just assume that everyone with a boat follows the tournament trails, maybe in very small specific areas but I still don't think even on places like Guntersville that everyone follows the tours. Its kinda like golf...millions of people have clubs and golf occasionally but not a lot of them follow the Tour and know where its going from week to week.

I have long felt that any BASS affiliated club or trail, should not interfere with a tournament on a larger level like the Elites or a club tournament interfering with a state nation trail. The reason is two fold, BASS affiliated clubs or state trails (to my knowledge get their insurance through BASS) and as the organizations should be working toward getting people to the higher levels. Will that fix everything, it won't, but it might help to limit some of the problems. I have always steered clear if the pros are out there because the state trail or a club derby don't pay my bills. Further getting a chance to observe the pros fishing is a massive free lesson.

I think you have to remember people will take any opportunity they can get to attack anyone that is successful or doing better then they are, some of the hate your getting Chris is exaggerated, we all might have one of these encounters in the water and we should try to learn from both the local guy and the pro

Chris, in Ireland after the peace we obtained a new institution in the north, that is termed a centre for peace and reconcilliation. Other conflict zones used to visit the Irish in order to understand how they made it through their darkest periods. The Bilge is a bit like that on wheels for competitive angling.

Paul Kimmage broke one of the big stories in pro cycling, but for a long time, Kimmage was left outside in the cold. By the cycling sport.

Someone sent Trait a clip of one of those guys saying I didn’t go to MLF because I couldn’t afford it. Bass entries were $50k at the time and BPT had free entry fees 😅

Great show. I really think that whole situation sucked but you're a different breed of jackazz if you get that mad at an elite angler fishing your lake and spots. Id geek out at the chance to watch them a bit. But if there is a local club tournament going on that im not fishing and a guy is rolling through where i am ill back off and let them fish it. I get out and practice as much as possible but i dont want to get in the way of someone in a tournament but dont be a jerk.

Gave up the spot. Chris is fishing for a living. I avoid those tournament waters.

And I work 5 days a week to fish. I will NEVER give up a spot to a tournament angler. But I do avoid lakes that have tournaments going on. Nothing worst that showing up to a lake to see a jammed launch ramp with a tournament going on.

You don’t owe anyone an apology. Pull up on a spot, sack em up, don’t engage with another angler that isn’t even fishing the tournament. You’re fishing to win a normal dual income families yearly salary. FUCK THE BULLSHIT.

Everybody including you guys are always calling out derbies for not paying enough which is true, but I can't understand why you guys took such a negative outlook with regards to the $500k derby on Guntersville. It's underwritten by Alabama tax payers

When nobody puts a name behind it, rules are vague, qualification requirements and membership fees aren’t mentioned, I wouldn’t get excited about it either. Not to mention I’m not sure the government supposedly putting up a million bucks for a B.A.S.S. tournament on a place that is already overcrowded with tournaments would be appropriate

I think both was in the wrong, Chris i love you to death and watch all your videos but you should have asked if it was ok if you fished that area. Everyone as a fisherman need to respect one another if your a pro or not. But also he shouldn't have been a *&#$ and let u have that spot. We all are excited and get in the moment and stuff happens, its part of it. I think big on you for admitting u should have handled it differently.

Trait I watched this video today. I want to tell you. You should never be ashamed or hold your tongue if what your saying is factual. the league needs to own up if there are mistakes made, just like Chris did after he rolled up on that spot. IMO you both are class acts. 👍

Something seems exceedingly "fishy" in the tournament fishing industry these days. I can see with my own eyes that BASS and MLF go to great lengths to not only sweep under things that should be laid bare, but they seem to go extra to Celebrate these same individuals. Its all taking away from the product. FFS is the least of the worries in professional fishing. I follow Team Zaldain, because it feels transparent to me. Great podcast with a great guest.

We are all human and we all have moments we lose our cool, doesn’t matter who is right or wrong , wrong day wrong reaction happens to all of us. None of us have range finders and there’s no parking places on the water. One persons 100 feet or yards is very different than another’s. Real life sh@t went down. Like Luke said, as a fisherman it doesn’t matter if it’s a pro league or a jon boat club if there’s a tournament going on and I know about it, I find another lake to go to. If you do decide to go, you have to go into it knowing it’s going to be crowded and you are going to be close to others throughout the day.

Is there not a place in Denton to have the Classic. Much closer to to the lake and less stressful to the fish being hauled farther. I’d attend if they’d do it closer to the lake.

I fish alot at Clearlake. I always give way to tournament Anglers when they ask and are courteous. Tournaments there in April and May you cant make full cast without hittiing a boat. Sometimes the biggest lakes fish small Especially for money .

Consider the fishermen like me who spend full price on all the same gear you have. Can only fish Saturday,Sunday. Then weather keeps me off the water some of those days. It seems like ever time I get to the launch some type of tournament is going on. You mentioned things going on in the fishing industry that may have affected you. Maybe that kid has stressed in his life right now.
