Finally going home! It's been a long trip crossing the Atlantic ocean twice, but we are finally crossing the US back to Nassau, Bahamas. Music: Leaving by Silent Partner Flight Route: KSAN GBN ELP J86 LEV Q100 SRQ VKZ BR53V ZQA MYNN
It sounded like the one air-traffic controller wanted to be on your video with a little more talking, asking where your final destination was. Love your vids. Safe flying boys.
Another great landing and takeoff at Lindbergh Field! Always enjoy getting the notification email for a new video, appreciate the content, keep up the great work!
Great video Sir! 👍 I've landed a few times at SAN . Love that parking garage right on the end of 27. Thank goodness for displaced thresholds. Take care!
Great Video, the quality is top class, Love flying with you guys, for me it’s “Team Work” of the highest standard. See you on next flight. Safe Flying ✈️
Love these videos, guys!! Watching this one I wasn't quite sure where you were landing, until I head the REEBO intersection callout.. Then it all came together, with the "June Gloom" (what we San Diegans (me being an EX-San Diegan) call the low cloud deck that infests San Diego around June.. Keep up the great videos!!!!
Not complaining!! Just saw a situation starting and wanted to see Pros handle it !! G4 vs 737..... I'll never be there so I depend on you!! Thanks for the vids!! Always!! Glad it didnt gey bad!!
Busy flights! And that landing in SD showed why GS requires two pilots probably better than any other video you guys have done so far..lot of direction changes, some traffic, coming down through the cloud layer, and just a lot going on, but glad you made it through that busy schedule and finally headed for home. Hope you all got a few days at least before heading out again ;)
It is definitely a challenging one, and I had to go back and ask my usual co-pilot if we ever did, as they tend to blend after many yrs., but didn't fly much CA, and he doesn't think we did. Could go through old flight reports I have, but have to much to do in the summer lol
Randy Porter yep I blame them for my lack of sleep. Though seriously ever since I disabled notifications on my iPhone and turned on the automatic Do Not Disturb, I sleep like a baby
Great stuff! Sometime in the future would be interesting to hear about maintenance required. How many hours between checks, etc. great fun seeing professionals do your thing. Thx!
Nice! For a second I didn't realize you'd clipped the video on final to SAN -- I heard them LUAW in front of you and no takeoff clearance -- started thinking this was going to be a missed approach video!
Wow landing at night like that seems like a whole different ballgame, not being able to see the deck when coming down. Seems like you need to have a feel for the plane more than ever. Great video.!!
Confession here. I was a little concerned when I heard the discussion in the departure about the altitude and then ATC ask about the destination. I was like “oh crap” a call or visitor would be waiting! Cool to hear CBP / Homeland Sec out flying as well. “Omaha”!
We were waiting to pull out on a cruise in San Diego Bay - sitting there on the Lido Deck watching all the "GONE MISSED" aircraft, due to low ceilings - thinking - there's some folks that aren't making the cruise...
Great video as always. As much as you guys fly you must have had quite a few incidents (ATC, weather, mechanical, etc.)... it would be interesting to hear about any you can share... thx.
Absolutely love the weekly vlogs, guys! Could you guys talk more about how Presidential Aviaiton operates and why you guys are assigned to one specific aircraft. Not sure if the company is a aircraft management type of model or more like a fractional such as NetJets. Thanks!
You guys do a great job. It always amazes me how you can concentrate on landing with all the tower jabber going on. I wish I had the money to get a ride from you. Maybe some day if the Lotto thing works out.
Wow! What a long day for you. I wondered how you would cross the US in 8 minutes... I forgot about your Warp Drive. What was that, about 2k knots? ...and you still had to get to Lauderdale & bed down the plane, then yourselves. Wow again! Thanks for taking us along.
Another stellar video!!! Question: do you ever do inflight drills on each other to practice procedures?? I.e. turn off something and make the PIC have to figure out what needs to be done?
Thanks for all the fine videoes. My life is about this. (Flying) The gift you possess is magic to many! Many Happy landings! :-) If you get to Norway (ENAL) send me a heads up and I'll show you around town! Btw, I'm vaccation in Florida in Oktober!
Last vid says P69. AA737 12oclock, 10 miles, same altitude.... And you add TO BE CONTINUED..... I have been waiting for this?!?!?! Sean (sp), such a tease !!! Been waiting for a wake issue for a week!!!
I'm sorry...I've looked at the footage several times and the airplane is not visible at all. It crossed in front of us at such a distance that the camera just cant pick it up. I'll see if I can get some good footage of airplanes crossing for you though.
Another great job Shaun! I was wondering about something in the video. John mentioned you were heavy and would take forever to slow down. Shortly after ATC gave you a 170 speed and I wondered unless gear and or flaps can come out above 170 how do you slow it down? I am not an experienced pilot so it may be obvious but not to me. Thanks and keep up the great job. P.S. John why don’t you try one Pepsi one Coke socks? Granddaughter says it is the greatest!!
We do have a few options for speed reduction. The flight spoilers have no speed limitation, so those are always an option as long as the gear is not extended and full flaps has not been selected. The landing gear creates a great deal of drag, so that is an option as long as we are below 225 knots. With our G-IV, the full flaps selection is available below 180 knots though
Another great video designed to make me intensely jealous. However, I notice that when you start to lower the flaps a light comes on underneath the gear switch - is that a reminder that the gear is still up or does it have some other purpose as I notice that it extinguishes on lowering the gear?
I know that a lot of pilots say they don't like to land in San Diego Lindbergh field. I just wanted to know your thoughts on that. Keep up the great work. Love watching you guys.
It's not the most comfortable airport to land at die to the short runway length and steep approach over the buildings, but as long as the procedures are followed, it's not that big of a deal.
Great video as usual. You guys work really well together and it shows in the videos. I was wondering, have you guys ever seen anything odd or perhaps something you can't explain? There havee been reports recently of strange activity over in the airspace around Arizona. You guys fly out west a lot and I know there is a lot of military traffic, but was just curious if you have seen anything you couldn't explain?
Another great video everyone. This time sans a near death experience :). Is there any way you could include an inset video with your flight patterns? Always amazes me how aircraft have to compensate for curvature of the earth. You know, because editing hours of video doesn't consume enough free time already.
Nice landing at SAN and it was interesting about Bravo 6 vs. 8. When I lived there I used to just hang out and watch the planes land from the perimeter fence. That was pre-9/11. I got my private cert at SDM / Brown Field. I noticed you guys had a flight plan into there recently. I really wanted to see you fly the full approach. I only did it once during my flight training and that was in a C-152. I figured with that fast @$$ jet you drive it would be a lot more interesting to watch. Did you guys get in to there?
Jason Hamm I bet if we keep making up stuff, Jon will be motivated to crank out that video. Eg: "following a successful but highly controversial career as an international criminal mastermind, Bond villain, and oboe player, Jon decided to settle down and take a more normal job.
Love the videos..one question. On every TO/landing, as part of the checklist the call out is “Air start” and the response is “Not Needed”. What does this refer to and when would it be needed ?
Well done and I said it before and i say it again I have no idea how you understand people on the radio, that guy from Bahamas I never understood a single word he spoke. Does it not get on your nerves all the controllers in your ear? I go bullistic when people are yacking on radio and i not in a life and death situation like this. Another great video guys and ladies love seeing the notification when you post new stuff
HAHA! Thank you...the radios definitely take time to get used to. I'm convinced that's why 2 pilots are required in the cockpit. If one doesn't understand the ATC, maybe the other does!
CPL New Post Checklist: 1. Day off. YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!! 2. PC: ON 3. HDMI connect to den Big Screen. DONE 4. Hi Def Big Screen: ON 5. Coffee: POURED 6. CPL Subscriber: STOKED 7. Play Button: PRESSED
After working in San Diego for several years in the late eighties till early nineties, it's quite depressing to see SAN now. No more General Dynamics or Teledyne/Ryan. Worst yet, the hanger Lindberg's Spirit of St Louis was build in is now torn down. That was real heart breaker and total loss for aviation history. Still hard to believe it's already been over 25 years since I worked there.
I worked for Jimsair about that period. Sad to see the city screw them into having to sell out. I lived in & near SD back when PSA had its huge facility there. I believe the sawtooth-top building is still there, with some governmental function. I've been away for a few years now.
Great job as always guys. Question... maybe this has been asked and answered already. You’re both wearing Capt. shoulder boards, but I’ve only seen John in the left seat. Is that a matter of seniority within your company or a type rating issue, or something else?
What time is NOISE ABATEMENT in effect in San Diego? Reason I ask is you started your take-off roll and had 80 knots before you reached the displaced threshold. If noise abatement was in progress you would have been required to start your take off roll at the displaced threshold. Do I understand that correctly?
