Thank you Scott…..thank you Judy for another cool video where I got learn some things🙂 This may sound odd to some who read this, but to me, it’s so nice to to see husband and wife working together. I’ve been married 31yrs and I don’t know what I’d do without my wife. I see the same in you Scott, and in the the same with you Judy. You guys are soul mates❤️ Best wishes to you guys from David here in the States👍 Much love and respect guys😊
Great to see how much progress you've both made. As someone that really doesn't like heights, I very much feel Judy's emotions about being up high, dealing with large-ish bits of metal balanced off that platform. Huge congrats to her for pushing through and it was possible to see her confidence increase in the timelapse of putting the roof beams up. The drone shot at the end to show all that success was great. best wishes to you both and thanks for sharing the journey with us.
Scott, you might want to get a rattle can of cold galvanize spay to protect your welds. Its sad that you have to go to the trouble of changing brackets to fit in the right orientation, but that's what sometimes happens with kits like yours. It's good to see that you are making good progress on your home construction, and I'm glad to see that your wife is handling it better. I wish you continued success on this project.
I sprayed it with black zinc, then painted over with silver epoxy, but I edited that part out. Yes we shouldn't have to fix parts but you are right, It happens and as long as I can fix the problem I just accept it. I show those problems so people looking to do the same can learn from my experience. Thank you for your feedback!
Judy, you are an amazing, strong woman who is capable of everything you put yourself up for. This was such a fantastic episode filled with a lifetime of memories. Please consider rewatching this video together 24 months from now. I suspect you will both be blown away by what you’ve accomplished. 👍👍😎👍👍
Looking good Scott! And way to go Judy, working at height can be a bit scary at first. You handled it like a rock star. Looking forward to seeing the progress.
Absolutely riveting content, it's like watching the best ASMR videos. Excellent collaboration during this build, does my old heart good to see a husband and wife working side by side. Kind of rare nowadays. It's been very enjoyable seeing this epic unfold. As always, top-shelf content, production, quality and presentation. Cheers!
Congrats on the progress and appreciation you taking us along. Baby steps will get you there and the care and time you spend now will pay dividends in the future for sure. There will be a day when you look back and think “that wasn’t so bad really…” for now keep your head down and your hands moving. You’ll get there. 🙏🏻💕
Great video Scott and family. The platform ladder you built was a wonderful idea and much safer than a plain ladder. You two work well together but your dog stole the show. Can't wait for the next episode. Thank you.
I'll tell you something, Scotty, your wife, Judy, is way more braver than me. I would never have gotten up there. It seems the older I get, the more heights bother me. The build is awesome, can't wait for the next instalment. Those rain storms are something else, mate. At least you'll never run out of water. See you on the next one. Cheers mate. 👍
A modest amount of PPE would make everyone watching much happier. Steel toecap boots / a hard hat with a strap (especially when at height) / gloves and safety glasses would make sense. Good luck.
You guys did great! The Mrs. was a champ. That actually seemed like a better way to set the rafters, without a cherry picker. Love the "whatdya think of it this time?" bit. HAHA Are you going to put in a garden this in the spring? Looking very self-sufficient out there. Well done. Living the dream.
Shed House is looking great! Rain, storms, more rain geez! Keeping your sense of humour all at the same time. You & Judy just power through amazing😀 I reckon Nala really wanted the steak off the rocket stove ! Any problem is always solved. Well done 😀
Thanks so much for sharing these videos, Scott. Moving cameras, thinking about audio and editing video is a lot of extra work beyond all you're already doing. A real gift to the Internet. You and Judy have a calm, delightful manner throughout. An example to the kids, as we like to say. Thanks also for all the great B-roll details. Keep up the good work! 👍👍
Thank you John. Yes I will admit it is lot of work getting the video but it's kind of fun to I guess. I hope we can set a good example, that would make it all worthwhile :)
Hope you had a very nice Easter celebration! Well Scott, your Supervisor and shop assistant seem to have helped you along a league! I’m really enjoying this build I just love how you explain the entire process. Can’t wait for the next session. Cool runnins!
You two are a great team. Well done to both of you. Loving the build series. Wish I was able to be doing the same. I won’t say you are lucky because you have probably worked hard your whole life, so I’ll say you deserve it. Enjoy. It looks amazing.
The joys of working in the tropical North. Goes to show these 'kits' still require a good bit of know-how and problem solving. A good challenge for you both :)
Wow Scott that stand your using was well worth the effort to make. Shed number one looks pretty well set up but I know you’ll love to have that whole area for a workshop once the house is done. You have an awesome offsider mate. I’m lucky enough to have a good one too. Looking forward to the next video. No pressure 😂
Love the video judy was awesome great job. Love your channel the channel I’m actually about to start building my shop as well in the USA we call it Poll Barn . Thank for your videos it make me inspired. 🎉😊
making good progress, just be careful welding the galvanized steel, the fumes are poisons. Ask me how I found out. Make sure you grind it all off before you weld it. Stay Safe. Cheers from the UK
New to channel. Enjoyed. For the newbie where is your home being built? I’m older as well. Not the back, rather a titanium knee but I love the outdoors and want to buy some land near the mountains here when retiring. Waiting for your next episode. Greetings from Virginia, USA.
Thanks for watching and your feedback. This is Australia, in the state of Queensland, Town or village of Wondecla. High altitude so we get warm days and cool evenings. Hopefully next update late next week.
Hey Scott..cool videos on your build. Is your cabin build sold as a liveable shed, ie council approved for long term living, also what about a septic system? What are the regulations to build a liveable shed in your area. Can you mention that in your next video. Great looking property. Cheers.
Hi Chevy. Good questions. I hope to cover all this in future vids. This will be approved as a class 10a Shed. I'm looking to get temporary living approval in order to build a real house down the track (that's the official story). Thanks!
Good to see more progress! That ladder stand is much better than trying to do everything with a ladder. I've used a much taller one to build a taller shed than yours and the bits where we were trying to prop up a ladder to lift the other end of something made me really appreciate the platform.
As a DIY guy myself, it’s frustrating that a kit shed like that had blatant errors in its design and manufacture not to mention the slab also. You shouldn’t have to be cutting and welding a kit like that. Terrible QA.
Scott I was thinking about you the other day.. The scene of that big spider that got on you came to mind.. You didn't mention what kind of spider 🕷️ it was and if it was poisonous.. Hope you don't run into any more of those.. shed house is taking shape.. Be done before you know it... Scott you take care my friend and thx for bringing us along..God Bless...
Depending how you guys I might be tempted to do the same thing in 5 years, maybe in south Australia somewhere. Either a shed like your or 3 40ft shipping containers in a U shape with a large open area in the middle most likely will be covered for some shade, solar and water collection. Great work, keep it up.
Thank you David. I like your idea with the shipping containers. I'm not sure of the cost now of a container but recently they doubled in value due to the lockdowns etc. Good and strong.
Thank you Jason! Shed kit was 20.5k, Slab 12k AUD Then all the other costs come in, for example insulation, power, water, internals, paint etc. Doing it yourself will save a lot of money, but if you have loads of money getting some else to do it will save you a lot of time. Hope this helps.
As somebody who doesn’t like heights, I’m learning. I like to say I respect what can happen at heights, and take my time to get comfortable, my employment does put me at height, where I have too trust scaffolding. last year it was hanging scaffolding at 7 levels
Scott. What if you made a safety strap that quickly latched behind judy in the opening of your scaffold. Maybe having a safety feature would calm nerves. If only a little. You might start thinking of hard hats since working in heights you never know if a head bonking ratchet could be coming your or her way. You do beautiful work and have been an inspiration for years to me.
Thanks for the tips, and you comment! Judy is going up and down the work stand no problems now. I think she just needed to trust the stand and her self. Yes hard hats would be good. We talk about that actually, to be careful and mindful passing tools and falling objects etc.
Great job Scott ! .I notice you have a step on the outside edge of the slab. .Do your walls sit on that edge? Just a note worth thinking about ; place a steel cover over each sheet on the top. stops the green frogs from getting into the walls & under the roof. The builder when they put our 6mx9mx4m shed told us after the build.
Ah, the old 2 thou(sands of a inch) hammer I used to use on the vice when it was on the milling machine to make fine adjustments. I had the locals here running over the metal roof when we were building a shed. They invited me to join them and have learnt that "Bugger off!" is a polite refusal. I don't like being on ladders.
Hi mate. Always a pleasure to watch your videos. We are in the process of having a shed built and omg we have so many f... Up. It's not even built yet. Not sure who you were with but ours built is a nightmare.
This is the second shed we have built in 1 year. This one is better in so many ways and thankfully the supplier is very cooperative. There will be problems, we just need prompt advice, service from the suppliers.
Looking great! We are a few months off getting ours started! Can I ask what size slab you have and the shed size? And maybe a supplier? We are in rural nsw thank you
Another great video, so much time must go into remembering to shoot more segments and it is a credit how interesting you both make it.5.15am in Auckland and coffee brewing on Aladdin kero heater in the lounge.8 degrees outside.then on to you next video 11.
I really appreciate your comment Roy, thank you! Yes making a shed and making a video at the same time is tough but I have become used to it being part of the process.
You've really had a bad trot with the weather! All this rain is likely to delay the start of our crush. I hope you didn't get any damage from the recent wind?
both of you did a great job! i love your videos, i´m excited every time you upload a new one. i am a big fan of yours over the last few years. greetigs from germany
Were both those shed kits by 'The Shed Specialist" ?? I know that Trim clad is exclusive to Metroll who make the kits for them. I could be wrong however. That shot of all your hardware in boxes on the trailer look exactly like what I received, being supplied from Metroll.
Yeah, I feel her pain. I never had a height issue until my three year old child purposely jumped off a 1000-foot cliff while imitating falling snowflakes. That caused me to sit bolt upright in bed at 2 A.M. with a racing heart in a cold sweat! Even since that certified nightmare over 20 years ago, I have not been a fan of heights and have a hard time watching people do things at "altitude."
@Erik Houweling they're good. I was the only casualty from that episode. It was just a really bad dream that came out of who knows where? I just get squirmy seeing people do things high up now. Like those people who climb buildings or mountains freehand.
A dream like that would do the same for me. As for me working on stand etc, I'm very comfortable having done it my whole working life in the aircraft maintenance industry.
Hey Scott I’m interested in the water pump you have, did it come from Bunnings? Like your work, looks like your helper is doing a lot better now, still not on full pay though lol
This video was not enjoyable!!! 😉 Don't get me wrong, the pair of you were fantastic & did/are doing a phenomenal job. Plus adding all the extra time & energy of filming & editing is very impressive. But watching this just gives me thick waves of ptsd from my own experiences of dealing with rotten shed suppliers, who fail to appreciate they are essentially providing you with a home, not just a pile of mistreated, at times poor quality & quite often unaccounted for components!! 😤 Best of luck, looks like you're over the hump now & in safe waters 🙏
Sorry about that. In the video it would be easier to just breeze past all the difficult things, but like as it is in life we have stuff to deal with I guess. As far as the balances go with all the positives v negatives, I am quite happy really. I am able to manage okay. My shed supplier on balance is pretty good. The concreter had a few mistakes, all easily fixable. Thanks for your comment and all the best.
@Scott Turner Hey no worries mate, I'm definitely turning it up a fair bit for dramatic effect 😉 Our shed supplier was not great, big franchise & the minute it was out the door it was not their concern. So much so that I ended up just going & buying components out of my own pocket to keep the ball rolling... couldn't bare to miss more deadlines than we already had (I'm sure you relate).
We went with a local supplier Wayne Laverty Sheds. Thee is a lot to like about his sheds. Strength for a start. This new one is much stronger than my 20m one I built last year. Shed kit $20500 AUD
