I share a positive update as I finally get outside the house alone on my mobility scooter, something I have been very anxious about and putting off because I have not been going out independently over this last year due to my ME/CFS imitations. I also share an update about my PIP process so far and generally have a bit of a catch-up as it's been 2 weeks since my last update. It gets a bit daft as I have bad brain fog today!

I got my first ever wheelchair just in time for Trans Pride in June 2023. It is now October 2023 and I relate so much to what you’re saying here! I was home for nearly 3 years straight (super rare I’d even go with my spouse to the grocery store even), so it’s been a big adventure. Thank you for talking about anxiety and disability, I’ve got all of that as well.

@@FinnTheInfinncible that is one of my favorite questions now. :) waaaaay better than “what happened to you? You’re so young to be in a chair!” It was mixed tbh. The whole event is on a grassy sloped hill. I was tabling and I didn’t do a good jog b of taking breaks because I was enjoying talking to folks that visited the booth. I did bring 2 other Clowder Contributors (my friends that help me make content) with me so we got to share a bit of the chatting and take turns looking at the booths. It was outside which is more COVID safe. And being in the chair made it easier for folks to recognize that coming my direction was helpful - just the visual indicator helped a lot compared to years past when I was seated and folks just walked past because the interpreted it as “on a break” instead of “disabled and available to talk”.

It's a tough balance isn't it? Mental health and physical health are so interlinked and sometimes we just have to prioritise one, even if it means our physical health will suffer a bit, because we know long term it'll be better for us!

@@FinnTheInfinncible totally! I recently went camping with friends I used to go with every year before the lockdowns (COVID is still happening, so that’s how I refer to the pre-vaccine times). It was scary to go without my spouse for 2.5 weeks (10 days at a friend’s house and a week or so camping after). But I managed to ask for help and land in a community that had a few people who actively value accessibility and self-nominated to be dedicated helpers. We even made it fun! I hosted the talent show using my rainbow canes for brief standing in front of the audience and it was a fun and energizing time. My 4th year hosting it and 1st year with mobility aids. I honestly expected comments about my gender presentation because I’m 2.5 years on T and the last time we all saw each other I was nonbinary but not on HRT. And almost categorically I got comments about the chair instead. I was not prepared!

I went to London to look for my.eyebrows 🤣🤣🤣. Oh you have to laugh! I'm so proud of my London adventures and still so dying to tell you about them and can't! Hiya! Thanks for the Finn Faff! I don't care how long the videos are. Waffle away. I'm SO proud of you for venturing out on your own to London! I can imagine it's hard to ask for help and be more dependent. I agree with you about the intentionality and the reason for asking for help. I'm independent as well and I don't like to ask for help, but you know, we all need help from time to time. And there are ppl in put lives that need to feel needed as well. My mom is like that. She loves helping animals, older people, kids, etc. Even though she has her own mental and physical disabilities. She is a true excuse remover when she has her mind set on a goal. Congrats to you for being an excuse remover and for doing what you can with the spoons you have.

Thanks my dear friend!, your pride means the absolute world, this has been a long time coming and now I feel ready, mentally at least, to get out and about a bit more. Its not going to be easy, with ME and with anxiety, but I feel more in a place, thanks to London, to be able to find a way. . Im glad you enjoy the longer videos, I just cannot be succinct, especially in my fatigued brain foggy unprepared state! Ive enabled automatic chapters now, so at least folks can skip around to specific bits or listen in parts, and hey, its quality listening , isnt it! You trip to london sounds awesome! And don't get me started on inaccessible accessible spaces. Ugh I find that bathrooms are the worst.- I was using a manual wheelchair before getting road runner and man it's awful. Sadly road runner can't even get into most bathrooms here at all which is obviously worse but I can do more so that's a plus. Anyhow I just meant to say that's incredibly awesome you did all that! I'm not sure I could have without my careworker or wife.

Thank you! It was an incredible adventure but yes it was a lot. I had people looking out for me during the day where I was filming so I was only looking after myself in the morning for an hour or two and in the evening but still, a lot! But so good to learn new ways to cope, to force myself to have to ask for help and assert my needs, that was very good for me! And accessibility is so hit and miss isn't it? Some places I just dispair. The worst ones are the ones that put in access stuff but in a way that really doesn't work, I mean did they even consult disabled people first?! Roadrunner....epic name!

@@FinnTheInfinncible I guess it is sort of a new term, I believe that the idea behind it is to help provide a platform and a voice for all the many conditions that limit energy and therefore ability to be as out and about and as visible a minority as other handicapped people. It is generally hard for us to advocate for ourselves individually and so there is strength and support in numbers. For everyone else (and to save your spoons searching) ELCI is short for energy limiting chronic illness.

I had to laugh,I'm lindsey by the way, I live in warwickshire I'm 40 , I have M.E 13 years , bordering on buying mobility scoot, ...🤣🤣🤣I laugh because I am in a flare, In bed for nearly 2 weeks now, i looked in my hand mirror and said to self "tired of maintaining these brows ,gonna shave em off and draw them on ", do you think this is a sign that our illness has progressed 🤣🤣🤣like they get you to A and E take your vital signs, check your eye brows,and treat you for an M.E flare.if they're missing, .I have tears rolling down my fat face just thinking about all m.e sufferers having tell tale brows due to the cognitive dysfunction..or even highlights in their hair 🤣🤣🤣 dressed as a goth..it does make you think and feel weird xxxx😋lots of love thanx for great vids keeping me company.This is my sons channel.im mom xxx (I think !)🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣brain fog 🙄🙉👀

Hey Finn! I'm sorry you've been going through all this. I've not been on RU-vid and have fallen behind in keeping up. Will have to go back and try to catch up a bit on how you are. I totally get these issues of asking for help and managing. It is a difficult to manage when you have a physical health issues and a mental health issues. I'm applying for disability and it takes forever and all kinds of paperwork and medical files submitted to get denied. It is a standard part of the process here and it's a terrible system. I feel so demoralized having to go through it. More challenging because I rarely if ever tell the therapist or doctor how bad things are and now I need their reports to support my claim. Asking for help and telling the truth about how difficult things really are feels like something I can't do. I have been conditioned (and I also condition myself) to suck it up and keep going. What a crazy cycle. So exhausting. I have fibromyalgia and arthritis + mental health issues and have all sorts or feelings of shame around it all. It's not something that comes easy for me to admit these things. As a trans fellow, I've had breast cancer and fibromyalgia both of which are diseases that most often affect women. This adds another layer of discomfort and shame. I'm always working on it. The system is made of humans and they have their own biases and limitations. Bit overwhelming. Thinking of getting a lawyer. They will take a chunk of the money once the claim goes through but at least I have a better chance of following through on it all and getting some sort of financial stability.

Oh buddy, no wonder you are struggling to keep up to date, I totally understand. Our systems sound similar and equally cruel. It's an odd thing isn't it, to live in a world that rewards pushing through, ignoring symptoms, and then to find that penalises us when it comes to getting help. And I hear you on the ' female dominant' medical conditions. I have hypothyroidism and now M.E, both of us which mainly affect women, and that has at times brought difficult things up for me too. However, l remind myself that's got nothing to do with who l am, my bodys internal systems spent many years influenced by estrogen which made it grow and develop a certain way, including my predisposition to certain health conditions. But that's just my body, flesh and blood, it's not my gender, my gender is male, always has been always will be. If others have their basis, that's their issue. A lawyer sounds like a good investment my friend! I wish you all the very best with it, remember to take care of yourself through this l know it's not easy when something is so all consuming and mentall exhausting. You make me laugh so much. My brain doesn't work right either. Can't remember what something is or what word I want to use . Have you thought of buying one of those hand clickers to click yourself as you cross the road ot even a musical horn to play to take your mind off the traffic. Im not allowed to be on my own anymore. I got lost a couple of years ago in a shopping complex on a mobility scooter. Last week I tried to inadvertently kill myself by falling down some steps in a pub and incurred a head injury and badly bruised body 😢

@@FinnTheInfinncible Not personally, but generally as long as you have an advocate with you, like from disability now or CAB then it shouldn't be a problem. My mother is literally bed bound with arthritis and she needed to appeal. My brother has downs syndrome, and he has to occasionally prove that it still effects him. The system is unfortunately very broken. Edit: I've dm'd you a link on Instagram. Hopefully, the review will just process and you'll be approved with backpay.
