16:52 Mel thank you for the fantastic tips. I’m going to Belize Apr 18 for the first time & Ive watched a bunch of RU-vid videos on the place but yours is one of the best. I can’t wait to check it all out. Snorkeling is my main objective & will start out in Caye Caulker then to Hopkins with a side trip to San Ignacio. Just 7 days in Paradise. I’m also gonna look for possible property options.

Thank you, I'm so glad I could be of help! When in San Ignacio, you might like Eva's, a great place for late night drinks with locals. And when snorkeling, please be sure to wear a t-shirt over your swimsuit and lots and lots of SUNSCREEN! I got burnt like a lobster lol. And good luck on your property hunt! 😉

Add the Belize Zoo to your must see list. Jaguar, tapirs, toucans! It's a chance to see Belize wildlife up close and the best part is they only keep animals that can't survive in the wild! Go early if it's hot. Most critters siesta during the hot hours.
@MelMashbat
@MelMashbat Год назад
aaaargh, i wish i had time to see all of them! But isn't it a good reason to go back? 😀 And for me, separate respect goes for the locals who put so much care and love for their animals, I'm dying to see more

I have seen many videos on Belize but your video was the best! I liked how you were very specific about prices, exactly what to do, and where to stay... that was important to me. When you were in San Ignacio, where did you stay and how much did it cost?
@MelMashbat
@MelMashbat Год назад
Thank u! Ur comment means a world to me! In San Ignacio, we stayed during Easter at Mana Kai Camping and cabins, and I just checked the price, it was $50/night back then. If u wanna see how it is there, one of my videos feature it in the beggining of an episode "Inside lush jungles of Belize". They were very welcoming and helpful, the cabins were cozy, clean, and you wake up to the sounds of jungles 🥰

my wife and I are looking ar buying property in Belize and starting a small B &B resort. The Issue is the property is south of Belize city. only accessable by boat right now. hearing the south side of the city is the high crime area makes me second guess this location.
@MelMashbat
@MelMashbat Год назад
Wow, great idea! 👏 Belize is really picking up steam in numbers of tourists! But yeah, you're right, location is everything. It seemed like the biggest tourist hot spots are the islands ( Caye Caulker, San Pedro, Ambergris Caye etc.) and mountain towns like San Ignacio. Locals told me to avoid the south side of Belize city, due to gang violence. But I'm not one to give advice, though hehe. Best of luck in starting a new venture! 😉

I was in Corozal,Belize in 2017 and am planning on going back in Feb 2024 because I fell in love with the place.I will give you my perspective in the same sequence as Mel did. I - Safety.....I felt very safe in Corozal and the locals I spoke with told me the same.I never felt threatened by anyone and I always felt safe walking around after dark. II-Transportation..... In 2017 I went through Mexico to get to Belize.I flew into Cancun and caught the bus.It was a six hour drive and I loved it but it was Mexico not Belize.Once over the border I got a cab to Corozal which is only about 8 miles from the border.Once in Corozal I walked everywhere because its not a big town so walking from one end to the other took about half an hour.Next year I'll fly into Belize City and then get the bus to Corozal. III - Food and Drink.....The local food is the way to go because that's all there is,there's no McDonalds or Wendy's there so your only real choice is local but don't worry because its delicious.And of course you gotta have a Belikin or two (or six).I am vegetarian and did find the vegetarian options to be somewhat limited so I'm hoping that's improved next year. IV - Budget.....I found Belize to be very affordable.I budgeted for a certain amount and actually came home with more than I expected.Because Corozal isn't really a tourist area,there's no beach except at certain hotels.there wasn't a lot to buy but I was not really there as a tourist. V - What to do.....I was in Corozal mainly to look at property so sightseeing wasn't high on my list.I did go to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye but didn't really enjoy it as it was too "touristy" and as I'm not into snorkeling it wasn't a place I really enjoyed. To sum up.....Belize is an amazing place with very friendly locals.I found it both safe and affordable.Corozal isn't really a place for families with children as there's not much for them to do but if you're looking for a safe quiet place to just relax and chill out from life back in the rat race then I'd highly recommend Belize.There is still a strong possibility I will retire there.
@MelMashbat
@MelMashbat Год назад
Thank you for an amazing rundown here! I wish I was in Corozal as well. And you're right, there's a very high probability of me retiring there as well.People talk about a place changing you, and me, being not such a water person and being from Mongolia, from a landlocked country thousands of miles away, Belize took me home somehow! I think the real beauty of the country is really the people ❤️

First, Where in LA is she filming the commentary? Second, When quoting prices; is it BZD or USD ? Please Clarify.
@MelMashbat
@MelMashbat Год назад
Hi! Love your question! 😍 I filmed it on Fern Dell Trail in Griffith park, one of my favorite "hikes", because it's one of the easiest 😅 also you can see turtles, different fish and even small crabs in the ponds. About the prices, can you send me the timestamp of the exact sentence? Is it the food portion - snapper costs 15 to 16 in Belizean dollars which is $8 USD, beer around $2 USD, rum $5 USD, hotels $40 USD and so on. Alright, plz let me know if I answered your question right 😉

It's not on me to say that Belize is unsafe. I can only tell you from my experience and my time there was great. I don't wanna be fake and say "avoid it" with no reason. As with any country, you have to know areas to avoid. And I do say which ones I avoided, listening to locals, in this video and in several of my Belize videos. Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching.
