Manic Panic was the place to go for the trendiest fashion accessories in the East Village in 1985. It was located on St. Marks Place. It has grown become a major player in the hair color industry, specializing in subtle pastels and bright colors for those who want something different. Sisters Tish and Snooky are the owners, and they were both in their boutique the day Nelson brought Now Explosion members Lady Clare and Elouise there to shop for fingernails. This will sound weird but it makes me realise how insignificant I really am that the world existed before I was in it and it will continue when I'm dead. Time is so weird.

ABOUT THE TWO NY SISTERS WHO STARTED MANIC PANIC® NEW YORK, NY - Sisters and New York City natives Tish and Snooky Bellomo have been America’s darlings of creative hair color and punk rock pioneers and tastemakers, since their days in the original Blondie band line-up in the mid 70s. Opening America’s first Punk Boutique in 1977, they went on to start the world’s first alternative beauty brand, Manic Panic®, leading the hair color revolution and changing the concept of what beauty is forever! For over 40 years Tish and Snooky have delivered their rock n’ roll lifestyle to the world through their iconic brand. Their legendary hair color, which has remained 100% Vegan and Cruelty-Free since its inception, has helped celebrities including Cyndi Lauper, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Cardi B, Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian stand out in the headlines. Tish and Snooky have been dubbed “The Martha Stewarts of Punk”, and still rock the Manic Panic lifestyle. “We don’t just sell it, we live it!” has been their motto for over 40 years. To this day, Tish and Snooky continue to perform regularly, singing with some of music’s biggest and icons including the all-star band Blue Coupe, consisting of Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dennis Dunaway (founding member of the Alice Cooper group) and Albert and Joe Bouchard, founding members of Blue Oyster Cult. Tish and Snooky continue to spread their brand of radical glamour® throughout the galaxy!

Awww, I was a teenager when this was filmed, and remember shopping at Manic Panic all the time. (Usually followed by catching up with friends at Yaffa or Holiday.) Snooky and Tish were always very kind to me, which impressed me even then because I was, comparatively, just a kid and knew I was nowhere near as cool as they were. Such good memories of growing up at that time.

All the children with their multicoloured hair now - a lot of them use a brand called Manic Panic. I tell them it was a store, you know... a little bitty store packed with stuff and great ideas. (It was also hard as hell to get a single color to take; they've improved the formula. I can still smell the smell of a jar of blue hair dye - smells like possibility.)

For those of who were alive and remember these times, was everybody like this? Was everybody just so real and raw and unfiltered back then? It's amazing and refreshing. They didn't need to be drunk and high constantly to be themselves..... It really makes me reflect and wish I didn't need to do those things to just be so unapologetically myself like these amazing people. They're freaks and they love it. They own it. They are truly LIVING! Side note, why are all the great 80's videos filmed by gay men? lol
@notsoseriousmoonlight
@notsoseriousmoonlight 6 лет назад
I was a teenager then. No, not everyone was like that. The 80's had their uptight folks too. However, most people were friendly, outgoing and just looking to have a good time though! I remember going places and making friends with all kinds of people! Now to go out places and randomly talk to strangers can earn you some pretty dirty looks...

People in NYC back in those days knew how to keep safe while enjoying the most of their surroundings. I was lucky enough to have a family friend who lived in Brooklyn take me and my family around the Burroughs using the subways and taxi system avoiding getting mugged but at the same time seeing ALL of NYC in it's architecture as well as dark and gritty glory. There were definitely street junkies and degenerates around but our local guide knew how to avoid crossing the wrong territory. Today people seem less instinctual and street smart.

I reuploaded my 1st RU-vid video from 2006 of my daughter. I'm kind of jealous of her. I wish I had footage of me in the 80's and early 90's . ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mfLOYVdR4xs.html

Hehe Manic Panic is very much relevant today. It's one of the most popular hair dye brands now. Tish and Snookys names are on the containers, really awesome seeing the ladies behind it all back in their home store.

These were/are kind folk by nature. Everything was authentic back then. Nowadays everyone is laid back, but almost to the point of being obnoxious and uptight, egotistical. Even those that come off as kind like these people they always display some annoyance on purpose. These people are eccentric, but affable.

Steven Sims I thought of that. It's like he lives on in the 80s. He never saw anything else after it. He should consider himself lucky
