You have the best Montana-related channel I've seen on RU-vid! Thanks for taking us on this beautiful road - I can't wait to return and see it again. It never gets old. Keep putting out quality Montana content--you're awesome!
Such a beautiful road and landscape. My wife and I vacationed there for 2 weeks and it is still one of our best vacations. The “going to the sun” road is intimidating the first time driving it, but is gets easier after a few times. It does get crowded during the day, since it is only open a limited time during the year. The hiking trails are amazing and so memorable. We love MT. Thanks for sharing.
I can't thank you enough for this. I will likely never drive it so it is a great kindness to have made this for we, the valley-bound. Your content is always excellent but this was a generous gift.
Thanks for refreshing my memory of the park which I visited 55 years ago this month. Flew over the park for a month in 67, forest fire suppression duty with Air Force helicopters while stationed at Great Falls (Malmstrom AFB). The Park Service gave us a tour of Going to the Sun road in one of the antique buses as a thank you! And thank you for sharing.
David Smith: 50 years ago for me! I was last there in ‘72! I don’t remember so many trees blocking the view and there was a lot more snow on the mountain tops and a lot more wildflowers on the slopes. Of course, I was there in late June. This looks more like it was filmed in late July but I don’t know what year.
I went on the Going to the Sun Road back in 2003. Still looks absolutely beautiful. Looking forward to the day when I can go back. Thank you for risking your life for us!
WOW! There are no words spectacular enough to describe that beauty! Thank you for filming that! Hopefully we will be able to see it in person! It even invoked a few tears.
Thanks for an amazing video. I had the privilege of driving a Red Bus (#86) back in 1975. Each day on the Going to the Sun Road was special. I never get tired of watching any video of this special National Park.
Our family spent two weeks up by Flathead Lake 4 yrs ago. We never got past Lake McDonald because they were still plowing snow up on the top. Bummer! We drove from Kansas to see it. Still the most beautiful vacation we've had.
Great quality video. I’ve driven between Avalanche and Logan Pass over 1,000 times in my 5 years as a Shuttle driver and still love making the drive. Going in July with rushing water and clear sky is best. But you will see more bear in the late afternoon and evening.
I was a Jammer in 1993 I drove bus number 79 in case you were one of my guests. *waves hello* I was there from May to October that year. The antique red touring buses
Hi Will! I’m deathly afraid of heights but THIS is so worth it. I’ll definitely be going there with the hubs and I can’t wait! Thank you for the virtual tour 👌🏼
Wow, great views, and as a passionate Far Cry 5 player, I clearly recognize where the inspiration for the game landscape is coming from. Greetings from Germany.
Beautiful ride. We did it in 2019 about 2 weeks after a young girl was killed by rockfall. The ride was so scary that we decided to drive 2 hours out of the way to get back to Kalispell. I’m surprised you didn’t mention “Trail of the Cedars” when you passed it. We really enjoyed that.
Just got back from going to Glacier National Park and going to the sun road a few days ago. It was beautiful! We drove to Bowman Lake and kayaked it. That was amazing. We stayed in Kalispell Montana for a week.
Very nice. Probably nothing like that in the world. Glad those underpasses are so tight otherwise there might be large tour buses cramming the roads like other national parks.
Pretty cool. I live and have land in the area.So I get the pleasure of having this as a daily drive sight. My family has lived here for all of time. And it has changed so much. Great video. Will you add to next videos on the area the importance of visitor respect for animals and landscape please? We don’t want this to become like Yellowstone and the bison. It’s better when folks can visit and leave respectfully and safe.
I lived in Great Falls from 76 thur 79. Not sure why i left to go back to east coast. Maybe young & stupid. Went up to Glacier a couple of times. So beautiful. Road to the sun is a bucket list must do.
Thanks for sharing. I was on that road a few years ago & couldn’t make the loop because the road was wiped out from snow slide. We went as far as we could from each end & I’m glad to have found this to get the full experience. There at Lake McDonald my Mom’s Aunt & Uncle who started Hoglund’s Western Wear in Great Falls had a home there. The park bought it & tore it down before I could see it. I live in Utah & Montana will always be home to me & my parents meet in Dillon. Mom was from Valier & Dad Sheridan MT. There’s a mining show in Twin Bridges called American Gold, The legend of Bear Gulch on Fox Nation. It’s about 5 Brothers the Dale’s trying to find Oly’s gold who found a rich vain in the mine & boarded it up to go back to get it for himself but before he died he told it to the Dale’s Grandfather. The claims came up for sale & they mortgaged their homes to purchase them. I want more people to go watch so they will start filming again if there’s enough interest, there’s only 2 sessons. I know the oldest Brother Rick Dale because my Father & Rick are old College Roommates in Butte. We seen Rick last year who told us about the show & again this year. It’s not like those other fake shows & the legand is true.
Thanks for sharing this. One of my siblings went to Glacier National Park, many years ago, and he went through the Alberta side. I would like to go there in the future. It looks awesome. Cheers! ✌️
Hi Will. We traveled on Rt. 35 from Polson, then took Rt. 2 to Many glaciers in 2021, so we missed Going to the Sun Rd. However, this road reminds me of U.S. Rt.550 in Colorado, which is a white-knuckle route. I thoroughly enjoyed the visuals and the music selections you incorporated into this video. You produce the most thoughtful videos
I lived in the Flathead in the mid 1970 s, been up the Sun Road many times, that's about 45 years ago ,I was amazed to see the view obscured by small trees and vegetation .Park Service needs to do some trimming , way more impressive back then. the philosophy of the new park management is let it be natural, it became unnatural when they built the road, those trees growing below the road are there because of the road, trim them!!!
just took that road last summer the first time and im looking forward to move from Berlin, Germany to Whitefish, MT in less than two weeks! i love it so much!
That’s so cool. Good for you. A vast many Germans have come to live in the area throughout history and have lived there with amazing relationships to the surroundings and the Natives, like myself. Charles Schultz was a huge part of sharing the culture of the area. And was even an adopted member of our tribe. Blackfeet. I hope you have a wonderful stay.
Your video is fabulous. My husband and I will be there in 2 weeks for his birthday. I’m looking forward to the drive but can you advise where we go to find the stone bridge from the movie…. With the mountains in the background? Appreciate any info thx
😂 they don’t call it gods country. We locals call it Blackfeet country. Been residents for all of human time. If you come, have a safe and wonderful trip.
Come visit, leave no trace. Drive in the right hand lane unless passing, yes even on 4 lane hwys. Don't harass the wildlife. Then leave. Thanks for visiting.
i really want to come out to visit the park but the heights are just too intimidating for me. is it worth going to GNP if youre not going to do GTTSR??
i had to cancel my trip because the road wasnt open by the 4th of july, it later opened on july 13 i moved all my expenses to new mexico instead. hoping to get to the park in the future!
Not affected by flooding no. But definitely affected by snow and avalanches. As it’s in a natural glacier area. And the unfortunate global weather conditions are affecting the area hugely. Definitely check road and weather conditions before planning a trip and before leaving for that trip and while on that trip. And do travel safe.
It isn’t going away until global warming human caused erosion do. As a resident of the area. We are very proactive on landscape and animal protection. And don’t care so much for tourist money as other parks. If you do get the chance to come, travel safely.
