One of Joe duplantier's favorite albums of all time is "symbolic" and "human" from DEATH. You can see the influence from that band in the music and i love it.
@@gatinho6248 considering he is doing that since 96 ..his voice is still prety good , sure some recent live his voice is tired , because you know he is older , doing a concert every two days can be tiring if you don't have enough rest , air conditionning all that stuff...but honestly it's still pretty good
@@thedudethatplaysguitar9882 so damn true! Glad the band I was in, always took over the mixing at the shows we did because the sound guys barely had me in the pa. One show I remembered my singer told the guy that we needed the bass to be heard because everyone needed to hear the shit I was playing. I mean, I was compared to Ryno many a times. Which is funny because I did live 2 cities from the guy before they got signed on.
The faces Joe pulls at the start of The Heaviest Matter of the Universe are exactly the ones I pull listening to it, behind my laptop, with my headphones, and my girlfriend beside me contemplating if we should really get married. \m/
@@aaronkapustinsky6062 I need to make it a point to see them. I'd love to see them tour with sylosis, devildriver, and trivium. I would hafta see a chiropractor if that eargasm ever happened.
@@wessmith3204 I've seen Gojira, DevilDriver, and Trivium all on separate occasions. Gojira and Lamb of God tie for my 2 most awesome live experiences, coupled with some amazing acid.
The drummer reminds me of Nick Menza Rust In Peace era. His mannerisms, gloves and everything. I stopped listening to metal for 5 years and just came back to this. Holy crap metal is evolving quickly. When i was playing Opeth on drums I thought that was complex. This is mind blowing
1gbayfisher Check out Elliott Hoffman from Car Bomb. They toured with Gojira a couple times and he is absolutely insane. He's like Tomas Haake and a drum machine had a baby that grew up and developed a taste for LSD
Saw Gojira with Opeth last year. I cried twice at how absolutely beautiful it was. Joe is such a god. The whole band is so talented, and its awesome to see them back in their prime, even if they are still great today.
this is the best thing ive seen in done in metal in a while. major props for emotion, performance and overall greatness that Gojira is. hands down the best metal band of new metal era
Boss Hogg I saw lamb of god opening for metallica back in 2008 (that was my first concert) and now I'll be seeing Gojira opening for metallica this year!! can't fucking wait honestly
Was my first time seeing/hearing them. I got their early expecting a crowd, but what I got was an empty stadium, maybe 20% full, and this band began to play. I couldn't believe how amazing they were. Made me go out and buy their CD that night after the concert because the only thing I could think of while watching Metallica was I WANT MORE GOJIRA!
The fact that people comment on how "fake" Joe's voice sounds live just proves how FUCKING GOOD he is. Literally anyone with ears that work can tell that his cadence on certain words is different than the album versions. Both songs were fucking incredible 🤘🏻
That is just a good mic. This guys are SUPERB live, I saw them in a festival here in Santiago where play with Lamb of God, Deftones , Faith No More and System of a Down (just to name the most populars bands) anda they were, by far, the most heavy sound, they literally move the ground.
The heaviest matter in the universe is one the the heaviest songs ever!! I'm amazed by the amount of people that have never heard of GOJIRA and claim to be a metalhead!!! I lost my train of thought........
Oh, don't get me wrong, I wasn't being an ASS when I said that and truthfully it's been a little bit since I posted that so I don't remember what my point was. Also, they are nowhere close to being my favorite band. I'm sorry if I came off as a dick, I honestly don't know what was going through my mind when I wrote that. I agree with what you said about GOJIRA.
What amazes me to no end is that I didn't think a band could make a song called "The heaviest matter of the universe" and live up to such a name, but Gojira does it, it sounds exactly as advertised. "No way it's that hea.... damn, it's heavy AF"
The only bad thing about this video is how it's edited. They're a prog metal band, they're not a punk rock band. The performance, however, was absolutely phenomenal 1000/10 :D
It's well done and effective, and also why it comes across so powerful. Which is why when bands become mega huge they use screens and full production crew to project the performance with cuts and pans and effects onto the screens in a way that gives it movement and makes it more exciting than it is. IE: Metallica has been doing it for decades and they pack stadiums wherever they go.
HeinrichVonOetker I actually think the girl from JinJer is better, her deep growls are awesome and can still sing clean decently. Vocally, and for female thats a huge deal. Hes good in the sense he sings in pitch or key, like what Corey Taylor does, but I wouldnt say the best. But Devin Townsend still remains the most versatile vocalist in metal. No one can scream and go into clean vox within a bar like he can.
I like how easy it is to focus on the drums in Gojira. A bunch of crazy shredders make it hard to focus on what other intruments might be doing, but Gojira is more about the riffs and melody which I like sometimes. A Plus about Goijra is that all the vocals even the clean ones are pretty unique unlike a lot of newer Metalcore bands.
7:23 It's not fake, it's a really good sound engineer work, like a Avallon Tube Compressor well used coupled with a good mic such as the Audio-technica AE4100!! Haters go away!!!
I had a weird dream about Gojira last night. I was in Montreal for their show, and was puttering around shopping and just killing time before the show started. I bought a bag of milk and for some reason brought it with me to the show. Next thing you know I'm backstage with the band hanging out, and I ask Mario.. "veux tu du lait?" (would you like some milk?) and he's like "No, no, je suis vegan.." (sorry, I'm vegan.) I said ok, left the bag on the table, and asked Joe if he wanted some. He said "that's gross.. it's probably sour by now.." Then I'm suddenly in the crowd listening to them play Silvera. Like I said.. weird dream.
Their front man, as blasphemous as it may sound for me to say this, but he puts me in mind of the late GREAT Chuck Schuldiner with his stage presence and even some of his mannerisms. I dig this song..heaviest matter. band isn't my cup of tea with everything they do but heaviest matter is definitely in my playlist along with a couple others
Dave Grohl killed it this night. Spot on. This performance is proof that he’s the best drummer ever. He can literally play any genre. So under appreciated.
I was having a conversation the other day about my top 5 favorite metal bands of ALL time and decided that Gojira is in that list simply because not only is their music just straight up bad assery, there is no other band in music let alone metal, that sounds like Gojira. They are truly that original. Btw I loved Joe’s hair when it was long like this. Sooo Metal!
Wish it showed the guitarists playing the lightning quick string slide bit towards the end of Oroborus and most of Heaviest Matter in the Universe. I dig that grindy sound, striking you like the chill of a frozen winter night. Or the swing of an axe slicing into a heavy guitar riff!
