Maybe for manga readers the experience must have been different because the story unfolds more slowly there than in the anime and they get to spend more time with her. But as you can tell from the reactions in this video, anime viewers don't feel that strongly about her death. Additionally, I don't know about your level of media literacy, but this turn of events is just typical scenario in young adult power fantasy stories. It was clear from the moment she was introduced and the episode titles what was going to happen to her. The way her eventual fate was unveiled was pretty typical of a shonen story, so I don't find any reason for her death to be considered some "psychological damage."
