In my opinion the last episode of Dragon Ball is 132. Everything from 133 to the last episode of Dragon Ball should have been the first 20 episodes of Z. It just feels so much more different now, especially since everyone is grown up, and we seeany tropes from Z starting now.
Goku's actor intentionally made him sound younger here, Z got dubbed before Dragon Ball. The Saiyan/Namek Saga were dubbed by a different studio in 1996-1998, then the current voice cast came in, in 1999, starting from the Ginyu Force stuff. That's where the Goku VA we all know came in. In 2000 the Android/Cell Saga got dubbed, then they dubbed the Pilaf arc of OG Dragon Ball and the first tournament along with the beginning of the Buu Saga up to Vegeta's sacrifice in 2001. 2002 was Red Ribbon army and the Buu Saga up to right before Kid Buu, 2003 was the last part of Z and the 22nd tournament + King Piccolo, then finally in 2004 they got to the 23rd tournament, which got dubbed along with GT. Oh yeah and then in 2005 and 2006 they redid the Saiyan/Namek Saga with the current voice cast, which is weird because if you switch from Episode 67 to 68, it goes from the 2006 to 1999 voices again. Just compare Goku from those 2 episodes, it's pretty crazy lol, if thought 23rd tournament Goku sounded nasally, Goku when he fought Ginyu was even more so.
Super heartfelt reunion. This was the first time Krillin saw Golu after being brought back to life. Very touching moment between them. Toriyama really had to fight against Shonen Jump and his team to get Goku to be aged up. I'm glad we got to see his vision for where the series could go.
In OG Dragon Ball, you can roughly gather a few of the character's ages from the 3 year tournament gap plus a little bit of information given in earlier episodes. Goku says he's 12 at the first tournament, so he's 15 in the second and 18 in the third. Bulma is 16 at the start of the series, so she would be 19-20 in the second, and 22-23 in the third. Krillin is 13 in the first tournament, so he would be 19 here. Not sure about the other characters' ages, I'm sure they have been stated in guidebooks and such. I know Roshi is supposed to be like over 300 years old or something like that.
It's kinda funny how Schemmel's portrayal of DB Goku sounds so similar to the rough performances in the Freeza saga, even though he was several years older here and had settled into his normal baseline Goku in DBZ.
14:24 Francesca, I'm pretty sure that Yamcha didn't see what King Piccolo looks like during the previous saga, so that's probably why he couldn't recognize him, unlike Tien who tried to fight him.
Keep in mind the reason some people don’t instantly recognize him is because of his cape and turban. Sounds silly, but as you’ll see as the arc progresses that they did their job.
