IMAGINE being 8 years old... Watching this live.. Just knowing that goku would beat this unstoppable monster.. And then Watching gohan come in and just flip the entire script.. I remember those days
I wondered what really would've happen tbh. Like, I doubt Cell was gonna just.. go away but at the same time imagine if fr just was like "Ight imma head out then" and the entire saga is over. You see in super playing checkers with King Kia and shit.
@@baileyfall4757 Not gonna lie, I would have really enjoyed that. Cell is one of my more favorite villains from the series and wish to see him a bit more.
"I'm behind you now Goku, am I too fast for you?" "I'm behind you now Cell, am I too fast for you?" "Ahh but that's where you're mistaken, for I am now behind you." "You'd be wrong about that, because I'm behind you now!"
MASTER INSATIABLE not really gohan didn’t have his guard up cause he didn’t want to fight so there was no effort on his part to at all to do anything related to the fight till 16 died then he tried a little more as in went ssj2 and demolished the cell jrs and cell and when cell returned again gohan could have killed him faster he just didn’t trust himself to not blow up the planet again he was way stronger than cell even when he returned
@@East_Texas_Gaming moving faster than the eyed can perceive, you also also need to understand that these fights should be thought as super fast, a fight that is minutes in the anime is just seconds in "reality", it just kinda slows down to make it clear what the hell is going on since they are truly fast. Those aren't teleports since it's a technique that literally only Goku and maybe a few others learned, you can't just disappear in DragonBall
@@mihailcirlig8187 yup the only one capable of disappearing is Goku with the instant transmission, but he needs to do the finger thingy and concentration before teleporting. iirc this was the afterimage technique, something only extremely fast fighters could do.
Bruh Goku’s balance at the edge of the ring at 1:39 is superb. Even cell looked frustrated. Those years as a tournament fighter as kid are really sharp here. Super needs to get to this crisp, electric fighting choreography again :/
@@maxhydekyle2425 my favorite part is ofc SSJ2 Goku vs SSJ2 Caulifla and Kale. When Kale got Goku in that arm lock and Caulifla basically went into a boxing stance and went in
Cell was the only Dragon Ball Z villain that actually got in everyone’s heads. Buu and Freeza just pissed the lot off. But cell genuinely played mind games with all of them.
NyQuiiL Cold & Flu that’s because gohan vs cell was Gohan dodging the entire time, hitting cell 2 times to demolish him, the usual power ups, and the kamehameha
Gohan vs. Cell wasn't really a fight. Just Cell beating down Gohan for a bit, then SSJ2 Gohan beating down Cell for a bit, then the kamehameha. Still love it though.
I mean this 2:36 is the crispest part of the series, while cell saga was the peak of the show. This part specifically did do everything right, but as a whole? Thats a diff story completely.
I remeber when this first aired on Toonami. That is was all I was thinking about, was this episode with Cell and I literally ran from my fucking bus stop, dropped my school bag and changed the channel, this fight was the best thing a 10 year old could have ever experience EVER!!! THANK YOU DBZ AND THANK YOU TOONAMI!!!!!
The ataata is in the Japanese and this English dub. Im assuming you clicked this video and instantly commented this without even listening to the audio.
This fight is so perfect not only does it present the peak of what two of the strongest fighters can do with their speed and precision but also shows that while on par Goku is on a noticeable back foot throughout the encounter if you pay attention. He really was giving his best and was clearly not going to win. So good work to the animators for capturing that detail.
@@marnixmaximus3053 He'd have fought valiantly and ultimately lost had the fight continued. It seems Goku's strategy during the fight was to go for a ring out. Only when Cell blew up the arena did it become apparent Cell wasn't gonna be the type of person to accept defeat on a technicality, Goku fought for a bit longer before deciding to quit, since it was essentially gonna be a fight to the death one he couldn't win but Gohan could. Chances are withdrawing being the smarter move because had Gohan seen Goku get beaten it may not have allowed him to tap into his power he might have been too shocked and wasn't quite their yet.
What I really like about this fight is how Goku moves between clashes. It’s especially obvious at 1:46, where he looks like he’s bouncing around on the moon or something. When you think about it, it makes a lot of sense considering that he spent an entire year in the Time Chamber, which is stated to have a much higher gravity than that of Earth. His body acclimated to the intense gravity, and now that he’s in normal Earth gravity it feels like nothing at all! It’s that attention to detail that really gets me with this.
This is the best fight in the show. Had Gohan actually fought Super Perfect Cell after he returned, that might have been better. But sadly they went straight to the beam struggle
Yes, that's my only complaint with this saga, it would've been much better if Gohan and everyone else had an epic fight against Cell, and then, when they are all fucked up, proceed with the beam struggle.
KurasakiBleachigo1 idk cause of he lost against an injured Gohan it wouldn't been a for sure win against Gohan and he seemed pretty confident he could fight the powered up cell before his injury
nnightkingj He lost to Gohan because of a surprise attack from Vegeta. And while Gohan might have a bit more raw power than Cell, Cell is a much better fighter. So he wins in anything that isnt a beam struggle
the thing that makes this fight is the timing of the shots. they recover from blows very quickly, but you always get a short moment of them grimacing from a hit before they counterattack, and it makes the pacing of the fight so much better, and really makes it feel like a struggle rather than just endless blocking and punching
@@wadaahal-rifai8165 how can you be a dragon ball fan, have Goku as a profile picture and hate dbz. That doesen't match. People like you made me stop watching anime

Jazz Mazz bruh I've seen all of super. But the stakes never feel as high as they do in z. U can't almost feel the punches like u do in z. It's cool to look at some of the fights but they didn't put nearly as much effort into the series as they did with z and that's not debatable
+Robert Holmes I agree with that first part. Super is pretty dull for the most part. Keep hearing the second part, don't ever get it. I'm rewatching Z, and yes, there are awesome scenes, but the punches never really felt more or less powerful, or impactful, at least animation wise. The only real difference I would say, is in atmosphere. Kukichi is easily the best OST creator on the show and his tracks all of Sumitomo's out of the park, especially when they're well placed. As for the effort thing, that's pretty much straight up bullshit. Though it didn't always translate into on screen results, its been described at length that pretty much no effort was spared in improving the production of the show, and it certainly shows in the TOP, which has a lot of the best animated fights and moments in the TV franchise, a lot of the scenes being better than anything animated in Z. The reason why a lot of the time, these efforts often went to waste, was due to the horrible planning and pre-production that effected the show since its conception to its very end. www.sakugabooru.com/data/080da71f7c83ac8d64cde706c8693799.mp4 www.sakugabooru.com/data/a7eeb02d693eb20249277f88c26c0656.mp4 www.sakugabooru.com/data/9aa94b93c1f18a54f797639d2da3582c.mp4 www.sakugabooru.com/data/8d15f94127b676f9a30ed5917f5724a7.mp4 www.sakugabooru.com/data/25377e34f46c322668bf4e627748a662.mp4 www.sakugabooru.com/data/5d9c93ec32c116af11e8f79ad311a5b6.mp4 www.sakugabooru.com/data/78f7ebd9cd82c68a9b04985a274e33fc.mp4 www.sakugabooru.com/data/07fba098aa4cb05a347b45e3e2b51581.mp4 www.sakugabooru.com/data/8ada0ea13b67f5a378b6e84848c25504.mp4 www.sakugabooru.com/data/e261c9165846b51e54e24a9c780339a8.mp4 www.sakugabooru.com/data/b6e14c7e4986140866dd39f3ccb94969.mp4 www.sakugabooru.com/data/e726f6325e3f8b7339bcaefe49860cf5.mp4 In my eyes, Super is a really tragic show. Not in the sense it was bad, but because it was bad when it really had the potential to better, which I think is better demonstrated in the stark contrast in quality between episodes 123-129 in comparison to 130 and 131.
Also, where in dragon ball super did u feel like anything might not work out. In super, u were always like "oh he's strong, I wonder how they'll beat him" not "holy shit this character is about to get fucked up and I'm worried"
Even though it’s over the top as all hell I love how during this section of the fight they show how far Goku is pushed. The part where he has to back flip after his double leg kick and barely even touches the ground before taking off shows just how desperate the fight is getting. Cell is so fast and so strong that there is zero room for error. In my opinion this was Gokus best fight. The only other fight that can compare to the sheer grit of this in the entire series would be Piccolo versus 17. I miss the style DBZ had. Even if it was just mindless dumb action it could draw you in and make you really care about what was going on just with little touches like facial expressions, and body language.
Honestly he was also having Gohan watch him fight first, so Gohan could see how Cell fought. I don't know if that effected his mindset during the fight or not.
@@akhil6826 dbs broly had the art style but animation wise while it was above all of DBS it still isn't up here with this Cell fight. And you're also comparing a movie production with a weekly anime production lmfao And no, MUI Goku vs Jiren was not better animated than this.
@@ze_kangz932 I seriously doubt that it was him that made them mainstream since they didnt become mainstream until way after dragonball. There were cool anime both before and after dragonball as well.
@@vagiasthanasis Those cool animés I know some of them(fist of the north star, Nadia, Astro boy...) but DB was the very first to be a massive success, which showed that Anime can be a genre of media on its own and inspired many mangakas to make thier own hits. You need to stop hating and give credit where it's due :)
@@ze_kangz932 I am not the one who doesnt give credit where its due. Did you read the first reply? "THE FATHER OF ALL ANIME?" You guys are the ones atributing every othe mangaka or cartoonist efforts to Toriyama... Even taking what Tezuka accomplished and giving it to him. No,Toriyama was good but he was not the one responsible for making anime a thing.
My favorite part about this entire fight was Cell's innate respect for Goku. He had a high enough regard for him that he purposefully holds back in order to fully enjoy their fight. Cell knew from the beginning that he was stronger than Goku. He could have demolished Goku without breaking much of a sweat, and yet he went out of his way to keep the fight as even as he could. Goku was Cell's favorite opponent and the only one that he truly respected. Cell literally pulled a Goku for the sake of enjoying his fight with Goku, lol.
This fight truly felt like two super powered martial artists during it out, a trait all the best fights in the series share and something that a lot of the fights nowadays really lack
Anybody else love the sound design in dragon ball too. The teleport sounds, the sounds of them spinning threw the air, the punches landing even the landing noises are on point.
What I love about this is how well, for the first time, it really conveyed just how fast they move. To everyone else, and to us, we basically can't see anything. The only time we can see them is when they go in for an attack, thus slowing movement for an instant. It looks like they teleport on a swing, but really they're just moving insanely quick in an instant.. Obviously those with high powerlevels can track them, but even Cell at the start moves so fast Goku had trouble tracking him. Sadly fights aren't choreographed like they were in fights like this, or even in Z, in Super. It's just a lot of "cool moments" and repeat punches and kicks with beams tossed in.
did you even watch the whole show🤨 goku vs jiren on multiple occasions. goku vs kale and caulifla. gohan and 17 vs toppo. goku’s second fight with frieza. goku vs 17. vegeta vs g.o.d toppo. universe 7 vs aniraza. the WHOLE broly movie. come on man.
George Brown III None of those are even close to the level of this though, all those fights are incredibly same-y due to super’s fallback options and low time frame to create episodes. Not to mention none of them had nearly the level of story investment the cell saga had. Broly vs Gogeta is the only fight you mentioned there that is legitimately more visually impressive but the narrative tension isn’t even close to comparable and that’s a movie being compared to an average episode.
🗣If you watch at 2x speed it btter represents the true speed goku and cell were actually fighting 🫠 So beautiful, if only the whole series sped up fights scenes
What I like about this scene is that cell was always way stronger than Goku but didn't power up to max but rather tried to beat Goku, who is a fighting genius, at his own game with fighting intuition and techniques. Instead of making it a power blowout he turned it into a game of chess
@@HHH_3 Bro was watching Dragon Ball Y. Cell was stronger than Goku, not by some crazy margin like twice as strong. But he was stronger and could have defeated Goku quicker if he used his full strength. Also Gohan's SSJ2 wasn't just a 2x amp. It was 2x plus an additional rage boost. Which explains why Gohan being around Goku level, was able to clown on Cell who was definitely stronger than Goku. 2x alone would not be enough to explain the beat down that happened.
Literally one of the best, arguably THE best, animated fight sequence in the entire series. The editing, animation, choreography, all of it is so superb. And that damn spin kick at 1:27 was one of the coolest things I'd ever seen in an anime when I was a kid (and it still gets me hype at nearly 40 years of age).
I knew it was gonna be Masaaki Iwane's part. The art was so gritty and expressive, and the entire part gave us amazing action and choreography. It also gave us a great use of teleportation and truly shows that Goku is a skilled martial artist.
For its time this animation was INSANE. I remember being 10 or 11 and watching this and me and my buddy right after literally fought each other pretending to be super saiyans 😂 the good old times man
This is one of the few times we see Goku actually panicking in a fight. Cell turned his speed way up right before this sequence and Goku was struggling to keep up. You can see Goku's expression is so intense as before they were just sparring. The other time Goku panicked was when he had the virus while fighting #19. He kept throwing out energy beams by mistake and messing up.
The most impressive thing to me in this scene is how they’re avoiding touching outside the ring the whole time while fighting at that speed and intensity. Best fight sequence in DBZ from the overall best fight in DBZ for me
I honestly liked Goku's fight against cell more than Gohan's. Goku seemed like he wasn't quite as strong but could pull it off. Gohan's fight was 1 sided in favor of cell, then it swung to Gohan then it swung to cell until cell got jumped. Which makes me think why didn't they just jump him from the start ?
This is absolutely the best fight that uses those disappearing movement speeds. It doesn't just feel like lazy animation like a lot of the other ones. 1:03 and 1:49 are my favorites.
This is hands down the best fight in the entirety of Z. Nothing comes close. Frieza vs Goku was also good but took too long. DB just had hella tournaments so it was always lit. Goku v Piccolo / Tien was always popping
This was not the best fight, there were far too many cutaways to mr Satan and his lackeys which kinda ruined it. This video is edited a lot and cuts out those scenes. Goku vs Frieza had a lot more memorable moments
I loved loved loved the fights that actually show, skill, speed, technique, strength, stamina, endurance, strategy, etc. Not just Ki ball spamming. I miss this so much! :-)
