Honestly with how the Marines acted, Roger laughing at hearing he was the pirate king could also be interpreted as something besides the misspell of his name. To him, being a pirate was to have freedom, and to be crowned the king by the very people hunting him down basically meant that he had finally attained true freedom.
That Rayleigh line "It might not be a bad thing to live a little longer" is especially hard hitting when you realize it's implied Rayleigh tried to commit suicide by drowning/starving out at sea. We're told Hachi met Rayleigh by saving him at sea. But even as an old man, Rayleigh can swim through the Calm Belt like it's nothing. He would've been much younger when he met Hachi. As such, Hachi "saving" him is likely much more about Hachi convincing Rayleigh to keep living, rather than actually saving him from danger.
LoL as intriguing as it sounds, it's not possible. Oda hates the idea of suicide as we've seen so many times Luffy hating people who let go of their lives so easily.
To be fair, Roger was said to be quite the monster when people harmed who he cared about. He might have not harmed civilians, but he definitely had killed many pirates which is why so many people had a grudge with him. Like squardo.
@@rcookie5128 it's hard to imagine him not doing the same to the marines pursuing him. Garp also said he became a monster when his friends were in danger.
More specifically, Garp talked about Roger eliminating the entire military force of at least one country in retaliation for insults toward his crewmates. Even if he didn't pose a threat to civilians, it isn't hard to understand why regular people who lived during his era might be terrified of him since he could be a walking disaster area depending on his mood.
Think about how the strawhats have been blamed for lots of the things they helped put an end to. I would not be surprised if the same was true about Roger
A thing to remember as well about our favourite GILF Silvers Rayleigh is that when he first met Luffy he tested him. To see if he really was as good as Shanks had told him. Asking him "Do you think you can rule over the seas?" When Luffy replied that isn't what being Pirate King is about that the Pirate King is the most free person in the world is the moment he realised this boy is carrying Rogers spirit.
It's insane how Oda made such a fictional story as symbolic as it is to the world we live in today. One Piece is quite literally the greatest story ever told.
The main reason why I like your one piece breakdowns is cuz you put into words things I’ve probably already knew from reading but never really processed cuz I’m too focused on the fights. Great video!!
Fun idea for a video I’d love to see would be about the build up to Robin proclaiming she wants to live and Luffy ordering “Shoot the flag” your Robin video is fantastic so I think it’d be awesome to show how important flags/Jolly Roger’s are up to that point and the weight behind the order! 🔥 love the videos!
Eu acabei de conhecer o seu canal, passei a manhã toda vendo os seus últimos 5 vídeos de one piece, e pra minha surpresa você acabou de lançar outro hj mesmo. Fez o meu dia ❤
I'll say this, as much as a true blue bro as Roger was, let's not forget he definitely wasn't always kind to other pirates the way he was with Whitebeared. Just remember why Squalla was so easy for Akainu to sway after Ace's dad was revealed to be Roger. Squalla hated Roger for destroying his crew and leaving him behind, and the thought that Whitebeared might be willing to sacrifice his other, 'kids' to save the son of the man who ruined him
Ain’t nobody gonna claim that Roger was a saint. That much is true. He was pretty volatile when it came to protecting his people and getting retribution. I can imagine that there were no small number of both pirates and soldiers that wound up like Squard in the world.
your video essays are so comforting but hyperemotional for me, like i watched this vid 2-3 times and allways cried when silvers raylaigh spoke😢❤the best old man in one piece
I can't imagine the life I would have had, if I had never begun reading One Piece. It really gives me hope. It literally helped me when I was depressed for two years. Now that we live in a world of growing madness, the characters of One Piece teach me that I can reach my dream, and then someone will inherit this dream from me. I also have a couple of repeated quotes that help me with anxiety attacks and they are: "I'll tell you what freedom is to me... No fear” by Nina Simone and "Fear is the mind-killer" fron "Dune". They really are similar with One Piece phylosofy.
I love your vids MelonTee! I rewatch most (especially One Piece ones) of them while doing other things, as I adore your takes. May I humbly ask for a Brook video soon?
"You want my treasure? You can have it! I left everything I gathered together in one place. Now you just have to find it!" - Gol D. Roger (Funimation Dub of the We Are opening.)
I will never get a good nights rest knowing Ace died thinking his father was a bad person, I really cannot believe that marine propaganda ran that deep. Also how Ace told Luffy he would never die, and just like Roger, he didn't because Luffy carries his will also... insane...
16:48 What I like most about this scene mainly is because Sengoku is the first to react to it,the world is quiet and Sengoku yells at Whitebeard. I think because he knew before anyone just what Whitebeard had done saying those words.
Shanks didn't say he was on Roger's crew, nor did buggy, because the roger pirates had to be disbanded in secret and claimed dead to the public. Telling anyone, even a young Luffy, puts him and his crew in even more danger than they would already be in
With this I have watched all your One piece videos and I feel sad 🥲. Eagerly waiting for your next video. Btw can you also make a video about Oyaji, the big daddy of one piece, Whitebeard?
It's jus interesting how Gol D. Roger is this enigmatic character at the start. The terrifying King of the Pirates who was executed, the man who instead of simply saying what his treasure is or where it was he simply said "it's all yours, you just gotta find it first" and died with a smile Then it turns out we kinda already had an idea of what Gol D. Roger was like... Cause we know Monkey D. Luffy It is amazing how alike they actually are. They're goofballs who ask people to join their crew, believing it is meant to be that way, they want nothing more than to be free and to let people have freedom, they laugh, they aren't much in favor of harming others for no reason, their crew isn't just a crew it is family. Most importantly. The way the title of "King" is seen, how it is not about being a king who rules over others, but being a king means nobody rules over you. Isn't that funny? How the marines themselves essentially crowned Roger and therefore said to him nobody rules him,not even them
One thing that really puts into perspective about how bad pirates really are in one piece is the Marine. Think about how many random cannon fodder soldiers the marine has. The entire world is comprised of islands most of which dont even have bigger cities on them, all the large cities we see are overtaken and ruled by pirates. Yet somehow in this world enough men leave their island villages and towns to join the marines in fight against these pirates.
Roger is my favorite op character glad to see him get some love … I especially adore how the roger pirate who have such a reputation are just a bunch of dumb bros with whacky designs
Roger truly is the embodiment of what I think is the moral of One Piece: Can the world be oppressive and outright suffocating to live in? Yes. Does that mean you should give up your dream? *hell no*
great video. i really wanna hear you on the piece meal podcast. theyre an incredibly funny group of ppl and think you would have aa lot to add to there commentary on the series as they are going through it.
Hey melontee. You are quickly becoming my favourite RU-vid. I would like to share something with you for you to talk about. Forgive me if the comment is a little long but someone made a video that got me thinking. So we know the scene where robin called sanji a wing of the pirate king. Meaning he and zoro make luffy's wings. Well the video said that in the original Japanese release she actually called him "the wings" meaning both. Which means what would zoro be? I think you may have mentioned it in the zoro video but to me zoro would be the root of the pirate king. Zoro is always keeping luffy steady. Always a strong base for him to rely on to cover him. And always there to keep luffy in check. Liek when he tells him to get a grip in punk hazard. Or when he refused to accept usopp. He always reminds luffy of what he's doing and what it means and more importantly he holds him accountable. He's like a dad or more accurately an older brother
I think shanks not telling luffy that he was on rogers ship was simply because he didn’t want to set any to hard predetermined way and wanted him to go his own pure way instead of stepping into rogers footsteps
I highly recommend you do a video on Tony Tony Chopper AKA the best character in my eyes. He has a really sad backstory and it spawned the “The one piece is real” meme.
It's funny... when the world was dwindling in terms of searching for dreams and their freedom like with Bellamy, who was the one that reassured us that Dreams will Never die alongside Roger? BLACKBEARD. The most selfish villain in the world showed the audience that Dreams will Never Die. That the age of pirates will never end. While he goes about it the wrong way to the audience, at the end of the day, he is following his dreams, his desire of becoming the Pirate King, just like Luffy.
Aside from smoker, the only reasonable marines so far are momonga, sengoku, garp, Saul and fujitora. Sengoku would’ve been more trouble but since he had a past with roger and whitebeard and he’s quite reasonable from the start, he kept his side of a deal and called an end to the war until shanks officially stopped it.
Truly baffles me when people honestly think Shanks is going to turn out to be evil or that Luffy and Shanks coming into conflict is going to be a dramatic, heart-wrenching affair with actual lives on the line. When really I'm sure it's going to be how Roger and Whitebeard interact. Rivalry and competition. Here's hoping we see them do a Davy Back Fight.
hey could you do a video on yamato? youre my absolutely favorite on one piece video analyses and I really wanted to see you talk about him since he is my favorite op character and i deeply relate to him
