Watched this as an African and I felt a pierce in my heart. The documentary is beautiful, that is not a doubt. But it sheds so much information on how Africa is so rich, yet it benefits the least from all its resources. Half of this documentary is in Africa. Some of the places that had (in the past) gold e.g San Francisco are so developed right now, but all gold-rich sources in Africa are still struggling to even have power, healthcare, and education. Colonialists taught us so many things like religion, social interaction, their culture, but not good governance; and Africa is bleeding and being milked of all its minerals and resources for way less than it deserves. The South African gold mined in the 80's are probably sitting in colonial vaults right now, backing their economy. I couldn't help but feel sorry for our motherland. An informative and eye-opening film Idris.

I enjoyed this documentary about the history of gold mining, but I was disappointed that it didn't talk about the most important issue facing Ghana's gold mining industry: the damage it's doing to our water and forests. The sharp contrast between the developed countries and Ghana is a stark reminder of our corrupt leaders and how they are mismanaging our natural resources. But overall, I learned a lot from this documentary

The gold he’s wearing has been passed on for generations. If he sells all that gold, it won’t even match the amount of gold mined a day in Ghana. He’s actually a great King, and we respect him. The more I see and have spoken and interacted with Zimbabweans,Kenyans, Sudanese people, the more I have found that they are kind,welcoming and hospitable people. Iam ashamed of my English,Dutch and German ancestry for what they did to black African people in their colonies. King Leopold of Belgium was as terrible as hitler. Not even the Soviets did to other people what they did to their own. Great documentary. Packed with information. The only thing "lacking" is the writers choice to not highlight the devastation that this "precious" mineral has wrought. The negative Environmental impact on mining communities and conflicts that has led to the senseless loss of human life. 😢

@brianbenson9736
@brianbenson9736 7 месяцев назад
Although this precious metal has brought a lot of misery over the past centuries; it's value today in manufacturing, especially in high tech applications far outweighs the harm. Modern mining techniques that were developed at a human cost over the past century have mostly eliminated the risk to the communities that depend on the mining for a source of income. It's all well and good to enjoy your electronics and EVs yet discount the efforts that it took to safely deliver an essential element in their manufacturing. If there's an issue with safety, it's with the people who oversee the mines, not the technology or the element.
@akuwiyadzeclifford5817
@akuwiyadzeclifford5817 7 месяцев назад
@@brianbenson9736 my dear brother, I disagree strongly with your assertion. Nothing 'far outweighs' the senseless waste of human lives. (I will take wild guess and say you haven't lived in war torn country). It behoves the companies who make use of these minerals to ensure that they are sourced in a humane manner that does not come at a cost to humans and the environment. With the net profits they post annually, they can ensure that conflict minerals are a thing of the past. Au contraire, it appears that multinationals prefer countries embroiled in chaos because they can get the minerals "cheaper". Even the globally touted Kimberly Process has been a massive failure in recent times (in my opinion). To dream of a world where indegenes are not slaughtered for what is underneath the soil they cultivate should not be farfetched. (I continue to dream)❤️.

So lost in your own naivety… This wasn’t a beautiful documentary… he was nothing more than a con job created by the people who mine gold to con the universe into believing that they’re harmless… Most of these countries have profoundly corrupt governments and a few individuals get to pocket millions of dollars… while the average person is too uneducated and powerless to do anything to stop their countries from being stripped/destroyed… unable to stop enormous companies stealing their resources and leaving them high and dry… It’s criminal… yet rampant… and pure evil. … it’s nothing more than a con job… this doco is primarily created to make the mining companies look like good samaritans… while they steal billions of dollars worth of gold while decimating these beautiful countries and pretending to give a little bit back by spraying the bugs every now and then with toxic chemicals… one … colossal… con job… and Idris has sold his soul. This is nothing more than the marketing department in the production company selecting somebody who is idolise throughout the world to present the show… but more sinister a tactic… he’s somebody who detracts the attention of naive people who think “oh… it’s Idris Alba… one of us … he’s part Ghanaian… he couldn’t possibly be part of a scheme to con us out of our natural resources “…

The blame should be on those tribes that were on the coast that allowed slavery to grow. Asantes did what they needed to do for survival. They either sell others or be sold. I noticed him first at Prometheus. And I liked him immidiately. What a charismatic charakter. And since I followed him. He is incredible good looking and sympathetic. And I always hope that the private guy is a bit like his roles. I know that is stupid, but in his case... maybe it's true.😂❤

Wow! This was excellent. As a teacher I love this because this project was created for understanding for elementary children up to adults. Great narrating and easy to understand facts. Thank you for making this story of gold accessible to all. The history of gold in Ghana and South Africa is part of history. The connections to tech, health, environment, and wealth around the world is inspirational. It inspires all to even buy gold! I pray for those whose lives have been changed negatively for the grabbing of gold. Let's be inspired to continue to learn and teach about it. Next story? Diamonds!

Would you teach , the massive exploitation of minerals/gold etc by western conglomerates who often bribe politicians. There’s is an massive dark side to this that we cannot ignore, Unfortunately Africans still aren’t benefiting from the vast mineral wealth they hold.
