Thanks, this was very interesting to watch! I see these Gypsum trains in Burnside quite often but really had no idea what happened after they dropped the cars off to National Gypsum.

At 0:36, when you mention that the new hoppers are 44 feet long and have a "capacity of 286000 pounds", I think you misspoke. 286000 pounds is the maximum weight for a freight car AND it's load, on four axles, on CN lines generally. The load capacity of these new hopper must be less - 100 tons or 200000 pounds? Cars of more than 100 tons capacity are rare.

hmmm. i got that number from an article in progressive railroading, from 2003 just after the cars went into service. i thought it was a neat fact, and didnt give it much thought. Checking the car markings, it looks like the car weighs 58000lbs, and has a capacity of 228000lbs. good catch, and thanks for the info.
