GOLD FEVER - GREED SHUT IT DOWN 

Madame Mayer my dad was stationed in Anchorage and we also lived in Fairbanks Alaska .my mom the first time we got on one of the roads going into Alaska wherever they stopped on the side and panned for gold. My mom actually found a nice gold nugget so my dad took it and had a ivory leaf carved and had the gold nugget put in the middle of it, it was pretty cool. I lived there for five years when I was little girl.

I remember going to Gold dredge 8 as a kid in the 80's in Fox... Back then they had the excavating buckets moving to show how they worked. The front door (outhouse) was also above water. Thanks for sharing a blast from my past. 11:32

Oh my gosh that brought back so many memories of gold panning on the river. It is so very exciting when you spot your first piece of gold in the pan. I still smile hen I think of it. ❤️🌹

Those old pans are not as effective as the newer pans with riffles. I love panning, it’s so relaxing.

Thank you for the tour of my Birthplace. I'm a territorial Alaskan, born in 1955. The hospital that was on what was Ladd AFB.

Loved his gold panning demo and how he did it is how the used to do it but they also started using different size screens to do what they call clasifying. It separates the different material by size. Most of the time now they don't have the big rocks in the pan because what's in the pan is the smaller material. When I pan I don't do what he does exactly. Usually put clean water in with a teaspoon to tablespoon of material. Doing all the motion with the water in the pan but the opposite direction he was doing it. Also fun fact when panning put a drop of dawn dish soap and that kind specifically. The reason being is your hands have oils in them and when your put your hands in the water the oils come off and the really fine gold will float. To prevent the fine gold from floating the dawn soap does the same thing in the gold pan as it does when theirs an oil spill for the wildlife. You both did alright for your first time panning. It is satisfying to do it and get the gold out yourself. You someday should go for a weekend to nome and do beach mining and see the big gold dredge from the show Bering Sea Gold. Mining there is different than the mining up by fairbanks where you are. What you learned about was what they call inland. Thr dredged in nome are offshore mining and then thr Beach mining. It can be addicting but also can be heck in your neck.

I thought the Dredge was amazing, and the tour quality looked excellent - great hosts!

Had to laugh at the notice...The first snow is all fun and exciting and you don't mind dressing like a polar bear to shovel your way anywhere outdoors.. it's all the ones that follow that make you long for the warm sunny beaches

Albemarle nc has gold panning. Also there were several gold mines in nc. A man had a pretty door stop not knowing it was gold. It weighed 17 pounds. Most creeks and rivers here have tiny gold bits in them that can be panned.

My husband and I went there years ago, the "helpers" dumped our gold out in the trough" we weren't the only ones they did that to either, there was a few of us that got really upset about it!!! Swore we'd never go back! The place was very small back then, they didn't have the dredge there yet!

By the way madame mayor yes you do get better at the gold mining and you can make money from it especially when you find the right mining spot. We moved to nome from Michigan 7 or 8 years ago and I'm quite good now at panning and don't miss much if any now. Just takes time and patience but satisfying in the end. The gold my husband is mining right now in nome is beach gold and most the time finer gold but you can get the chunkier gold like you got. Ge ran 10 buckets and the pan was beautiful. We have gotten almost an ounce in one day before.

Once again you didnt disappoint, thanks for doing these tours and will see you on your next one.

Great video today. I always enjoy gold mining history. Good job on the panning, their technique is very solid especially with the metal pans, which can be a challenge. Too bad they didn’t teach the “Arizona Tap” to walk the gold up to the rim of the pan. The Paydirt paid out pretty decent for a tourist attraction. Good job! Thanks for sharing your adventures.
