+Gold Plating Services In your electrocleaning process are you using Anodic or Cathodic Electrocleaning?

Always "forward polarity", meaning the piece is the cathode (- negatively charged). The only situation where you use "reversed polarity" (piece being plated clipped with red wire or (+) Positive) is for Chrome Stripping. There are some situations where you do a reverse polarity "etch" but that is not applicable to brush plating.

If a customer asks for a certain micron, how do you know or measure what micron you're achieving & giving them? Is there a timing formula or something/ some way to determine it? Thanks Also do you need to use a fume mask when doing this? When I've done my own amateur version with a battery etc, the fumes from the solution seems caustic & toxic, but no one in Plating videos seems to talk about protecting yourself when working with these chemicals.

It does work 100% if used properly. However, this kit is NOT suitable for dipping big chains. You would have to brush plate chains.

watching in 2022...this kit is selling for almost 1K on Amazon...just looking at the parts, this seems excessive and doing research, it appears that the same process can be replicated with the right ingrediants for far cheaper...so what makes this kit so expensive?

my rose gold plating yellow after i deep into solution even i heat up 100c temperature still its plating yellow why ?? its not first time its 4 times its happening with me so where is mistake can you sir please tell me ....and i call Khorn plating solution department they say heat the solution 100c and use but i did all process nothing i couldnt solve this problem i faced last 10 years and i order rose gold solution after 4 month its start back yellow

+Gold Plating Services Also, I purchased your brush on 24k Gold solution. Is that Cyanide base or not? I've been using my bare hands in applying without the use of gloves and just wondering if I should be dead by now :p

Our standard 24K Brush Gold is a "fully-complexed cyanide", meaning the cyanide is bound up with gold and potassium. "Free cyanide" is what you need to be most concerned about and it is extremely dangerous in comparison. We do not sell any free cyanide solutions as they are hazardous and too dangerous. Getting our gold solution on your skin will not kill you. Proper safety needs to be followed (wearing gloves & safety glasses is always a good idea even for mildly acidic solutions) but if you happen to get it on your skin, just wash it off.

No. This is our 24K Bright Gold solution and will perform well at room temperature. The specified optimum temperature is 100°F., however it still works fine at room temperature.

How long do the plating last and how much is this process for a chain?

For a chain we would not use this kit as a chain would not fit into these containers. This is a low cost option for people who want to do things, such as one ring at a time. The plating will last a long time if plated thick or a short time if plated thin. If plated thick enough it can easily last a lifetime. How much a chain will cost also depends on the size/style of chain and how thick you want it.

It depends on how thick you apply the gold. How many pieces you can plate is Surface area multiplied by Thickness. This particular container is quite small so you can only do a few hundreds square inches to around 7microinches.

The gold solution contains .7g of fine-gold and once you deplete it, it will stop performing well. It slowly starts to deposit slower and slower as the gold content gets low. You can plate approximately 320 square inches of area with 1g of gold to a typical decorative thickness.

It would depend on the square inches of the rings, however if you want 1.5 microns on every piece, we would recommend getting gold solution that has extra grams of gold in it. This would need to be done via phone or e-mail. You can plate 80 square inches to 1 micron with 1 gram of gold. Stainless Steel requires Electrocleaner (included) and Woods Nickel Strike (not included), as prep steps prior to gold plating. When using Woods Nickel Strike a Nickel Anode is required instead of the standard Stainless Steel anode.

Probably not. This is an electroplating process that requires a conductive metallic surface. Many plastic items are coated with a metal surface, such as most automotive emblems, but I would imagine that plastic slipper straps aren't conductive.

No it not. Plating uses liquid to turn surface of base metal to gold plated. leafing method uses applying thin gold sheets over surface.

We can estimate how long to brush plate to achieve 5 microns thickness, however this would be best achieved using a bath plating setup instead of brush plating. If done in a bath we can tell you exactly how long to plate to achieve 5 microns. As for a video that shows how to make the 18K Gold Solution, we cannot show you how to make it and if you had access to the components to make it you would not need our instructions. The anodes shown in this video are Type 316L stainless steel. For this kit we also offer a Pure Nickel, (bagged) anode for nickel solutions, A pure copper anode for the copper solutions and a Platinized titanium anode for our rhodium solution.

What is the highest micron possible with your plating system? I make silver jewellery and I want to offer my clients a range of durable gold plated pieces of 5 microns in 18ct gold. BTW that's a fancy lookin' system you have there, how much does it cost?

Sorry it took so long to answer, didn't see this question until now. With this little kit you can probably only do around 1 micron. With our JewelMaster Pro HD (Featured in other videos) and our 24K Bright Gold (hardened gold, shown) you can achieve a Vermeil (2.5 microns) in one contiguous layer. You would then need to lightly polish the piece to disrupt the crystal formation, using a polishing cloth, then put it in for another 2.5 microns. The only system we would recommend for doing such plating is the JewelMaster Pro HD as it has the capability to heat the solution and agitate your part, which are critical elements when plating thick layers. This system is $999.00. The JewelMaster Pro HD - Option 2 is $1,449.00.

You would use it the same way you have seen in this video. Or you could brush plate the coins as shown in other Universal Plater Kit videos. Coins are very easy to plate.

Are those stainless steel pieces? Is that an activating solution for stainless steel?

Brian, they do look like stainless but they are not. They were either Nickel or Rhodium plated. If they were stainless steel the gold would not adhere with this particular 3 step process. With stainless steel you would need to have "Woods Nickel Strike" in the second position (in place of the Surface Activator). With Woods Nickel Strike you also need to use a "bagged nickel anode", which we can provide also. The Surface Activator (shown in video) is appropriate for most metals such as copper, silver, brass, bronze, nickel, rhodium, gold and combinations of those types of metals. Woods Nickel Strike is appropriate for steels of any type. Let us know if you have any additional questions. Thanks

I want to plate a stainless steel watch but do not want to use nickel in the process for allergy reasons. I've heard there are ways of plating gold onto stainless steel without nickel, any insight into this? Also any particular thickness recommendation for something like a watch?

Yes, I understand the need for no nickel with jewelry. We actually have a solution that our technical director created called "TriVal". TriVal is an "Acid Gold Strike" instead of an "Acid Nickel Strike' (like Woods is). It works exactly the same way as the Woods Nickel Strike it just costs about 4 times as much per liter. A 1 liter is $160.00 where as a liter of woods is $40.00. You would do the same 3 step process: Electroclean, TriVal, Gold plate. This is the solution for your needs and i HIGHLY recommend not skipping any steps or changing the procedure. I personally have plated thousands of stainless items and have done countless hours of R&D on it. This is by far the superior way to do it if not the only way to get consistent predictable professional results. As far as thickness recommendation for a watch: A "typical" gold plated jewelry item has about 10 microinches. Some companies will go thicker by 5 or 10, some go as little as 7 microinches. We always apply at least 40 micro-inches (1 micron) when people send us watches to be plated. Sometimes we plate them as thick as 80-100 microinches (2-2.5 microns). With our bath plating gold solution you achieve a micron in approximately 5.5 minutes of plating.

We do not sell products to plate aluminum for many reasons. Aluminum has to undergo special plating procedures and only turns out well if done properly, by a trained professional, in a large bath type situation.

It's more complicated than that and we do not provide the instructions or chemicals necessary for plating onto aluminum. It can't reliably be done on a consumer level, it requires industrial supplies and a trained professional to achieve consistent, good results.

25 micro-inches would take about 3 minutes to achieve at 2.8v. You mentioned Microns, however we assume you meant microinches, as 25 microns is not possible with a hard gold solution - at least not a decorative plate. If you plated a hard gold to 25 microns it would be cracked, dark brown, and probably buckle off the substrate. There are ~40 microinches in 1 micron.
