Well done. Looking forward to the rest! Just a tip if I may....? After dropping the gold with SMB (or SMS as we call it) if you just leave the beaker to settle you will be able to pour off the supernatant rather than filtering. You can then boil the gold in HCL a couple of times and then in hot water a few times pouring off between boils. It settles in seconds! You will get a much better purity. Then just slide the washed gold into a melt dish and melt.
Nice job 👏 👍 I did like 100 cell phone keyboards. It took me like ten hours to take them apart and clean them did the AP had a bunch of foils looked great lol like a half gram all said and done I feel the pain but I got like a half pound of copper from the AP
PCB gold plating is somewhere around 30 microinches thick...if I did the math right you'd need about 3000 square inches of plated surface to get 1ozt of gold from it. I gotta wonder if the copper would be worth more.
The chemistry involved in this is fascinating! I was interested in researching this more. Can you tell me how best to dispose of the leftover waste? Any suggestions?
You can use hydrogen peroxide instead of nitric acid instead and just let them.soak in the AP solution it takes alot longer but is ALOT cheaper. I put a bubbler with a hose running to the bottom keep the solution moving
If you’ve seen his other videos, you’ll see he measures out the exact amount of chemical needed for the amount of metals that are being refined, and he says even in this video that his goal is to use the least amount of acid for the job
