Frank (#705): Six hundred people lived in Frank, one of the great coal camps of the Canadian Rockies. Its Main Street offered an impressive array of false front hotels and stores. It was touted as the town of the future due to its massive coal veins. In April 1903 catastrophe struck when 74 million tons of rock hurtled down the face of Turtle Mountain and obliterated most of the town. The town never recovered, and today only deep fields of broken rock mark its fall.
