Just a correction, United scouts didn't say Caicedo wasn't good enough. The problem was the transfer was very complex with multiple parties claiming interest/involvement. Brighton had experience in the South American market, and had experience with one of the agencies involved (having dealt with them when signing Billy Arce). That helped Brighton navigate a complex transfer situation, while United shied away from it.

@@civildiscourse7626 It wasn't about risk exactly, it was just complicated. Multiple parties claiming to represent the player or having a stake/interest in any deal. South American transfers can be particularly complicated sometimes. United walked away because they didn't want to deal with a transfer that would be so complex. Brighton were able to step in and get it done, they had dealt with one of the agencies involved, and had bought from the selling club (Independiente) in the past. Smart well run club Brighton. They have lot's of good technical players, but I seriously think Caicedo could end up being one of the best players in the world.

I get your point but no defender is going to want to go into such a disjointed shaky back line. Your defence is only as strong as its weakest link. Centre backs work as a pair, so bringing one cb in means he's still going to be playing alongside one of the useless trio of Maguire, Lindelof and Varane
