Use any magic with any character (Thunder, Explosion, Fire)
New Options( Continues, Difficulty, Magic modes, life bar refill bug )
New Graphics( Font , HUD, Go arrow)
New Character Select Screen (Improved Graphics, Better Magic selection, Added fire sprites from arcade ver)
Both Players can pick the same character
Alternative Colors for player characters ( Press Start while selecting your char )
New GA2 Magic Mode ( You can select it on Options)
Added 17 PCM samples from Arcade version ( Voices, Sound effects)
New option for testing PCM samples in sound test menu
Restored unused sfx for skeleton enemy
Added Fog for stage 1 ( similar to arcade ver)
Added Red dragon to stage 3
Added Purple Skeletons for stage 8 Boss fight
Death Adder Character profile from arcade version. (Demo screen)
Uncensored Enemy Names (Credits screen)
Palettes from Golden Axe Arcade Colors

It's amazing how by using a 16 Megabit cartridge instead of 4 like in the original port you're able to add so many additional features and audio samples. I get this wasn't feasible in the context of 1989 price wise when it came out but they could have done a lot more with the Sega Classics Arcade Collection on Sega CD that came out a few years later. All they did was include CD Audio of the arcade's music and replaced the DAC samples with PCM ones but Sega didn't go the extra mile at all with any of the ports in that collection.

Plus that version lacked 2 player! Sega should have been embarrassed with that CD. If that was supposed to be a selling point for how enhanced the Genesis games would be, I'd have easily passed on a Sega CD

Would be cool if there were hack for all 3 Golden Axe games, that allows you to play as bosses or any character that is in the game. That would be cool.

In Golden Axe III there's a hack rom allows to play with the Gryphon (it's the Gryphon hack rom)

i think they did a nice job with this hack. i was happy to hear the voices for the little thieves and the other enemies. the sounds for the dragons and the one animal from altered beast remains the same, but that's not too bad. keep up the great work!!! (Edit) my apologies the dragons do have their sounds changed for the attacks

I play this hacked 16 megabit version on real hardware, it's so much better than the original 4 megabit release from SEGA, it has better color balance with subtle changes and improved details, added sound effects from the arcade version, every playable character has an alternate color scheme and the ability to select the magic type. In one word it's great!

This looks very interesting I may check it out, I wonder if using the Sega CD version may been better because of the bgm cutting off every time the voice clips are played, or at least adding an option to use the Sega CD add-on for the music as other Genesis Rom hacks done so, I wonder if the PC Engine CD music can be implemented, maybe even the cutscenes, just a suggestion.

Hi. Do you think you could add more women enemies in the game mode? I'd love to see two on the pink dragons! I love their green, pink and purple costumes. Probably red could do well!

That happened in the original Megadrive game as well, unfortunately. Like seriously, voice sample plays, every other sfx and music paused until the voice sample ends.

I don’t really see a difference between the original and this one other than being able to choose a different magic and a costume change. A disappointment for me. Just being honest.

Yeah, not so much difference. I'm pretty sure Genesis could handle an amazing refined port from scratch though since this is a very early port. For instance solving the "slow audio" issue would be giant.

Gráficos mais parecidos com do Arcade. Sons mais parecidos com do Arcade. Nomes dos inimigos sem censura (créditos). Gritos dos personagens iguais do Arcade. Opções de Sound Test no Menu, escolha de magia. 2 players podem escolher mesmo personagem.
