For its age, it was a super cool game, back in time.

This was a great game to me. I’d hit this anytime I hit an arcade in the late 80s early 90s. What a time that was

I came up on this game in the 90s. Nothing but fond memories of playing cabinet games.

The clever use of shading in the art style for the arcade version using minimal rendering makes for an extremely unique look that feels far more graphically advanced than it technically is. The graphical style looks absolutely amazing for a game released in 1989, It even looks better than the 16-Bit Genesis port, these graphics wouldn't be considered terrible an entire decade later(!)

I don't think I've ever witnessed the full magic power attack. That was pretty awesome.

I was blown away the first time I saw this game in the arcade. So many people including myself eager to pump quarters into it 😂

I miss the 80s, with all those bikini clad babes with swords...

The music was art, hauntingly atmospheric. Shadow of the beast 2 on Amiga also had great music.

In 1995 I got my first computer, the 80386, and this was my first game.

Played the genesis version for years. Would love to see this arcade version made available grouped with other classic arcade games.

This is the most responsive the controls have been on any Golden Axe machine ever, since the beginning of time. Amazing what an expert can do.

That was one of the best runs I've ever seen. That enemy AI manipulation was truly beautiful.

The skeletons always used to rip through my lives. The way you dealt with the ones at the start of the final level was genius.

I got this game in the past on megadrive and that's when I finished it.

Played this game at Shakey's Pizza when I was a kid. Maybe I sound old but I'm a bit disappointed nowadays, there's not many places with arcade game cabinets, especially pizza joints. I guess now you're expected to play whatever games you have on your own devices. Garbage apps with ads. 😢

You know, it'd be a REALLY cool if a paper texture effect were added, like the one from Okami. I think the combination of these smoothed pixels animated over a scroll would tie in very well with the games actual cutscenes. Like an ancient tale magically come to life. 🤔😄

It pretty much invented the side-scrolling beat-em-up genre. Taken to the next level and made ultra-popular by Capcom's Final Fight and those 6-player games like x-men, tmnt and simpsons soon after.

I play so many games of that on my amiga and then on megadrive... I'm a Nintendo follower but that was one of the few game who make me jealous of my sega friend follower ^^

I've always thought that older fantasy settings were a lot better. The monsters. The people. The architecture. Wondering how things were built/created and why, and then creating a world by answering questions.

Fun Fact: Those Bipedal Yellow Beak Purple Lizards also appeared in the Alter Beast game

The ending always makes me laugh when the villains chase the player out the arcade!!

I feel like it was harder back on the original arcade cabinets, but well played though.

Aww you didn't get the secret ending. Probably played all the version of Golden Axe. This one is the smoothest but I feel her sword is here is shorter than the other versions. Maybe because of the swing animation is different from the rest.

Kinda wish they stayed arcade games the world has gotten lazy releasing home ports and cabinets of arcade games.

When I was a kid I spam the hell out of the run charge/flying kick. Most of the time I finish the game with enemies flying out of the screen and I have spectators being amazed how untouchable I was. On second thought I think most think Im the cheapest player they have seen

Vor allem der Automat voll schwer eingestellt.SCHWERTER u.ÄXTE hatten auf gleicher Ebene eine Reichweite über den ganzen Bildschirm.Sollst ja viel Geld reinwerfen.Ich gabs auf Kollege hats durchgespielt.Weiss nicht mehr wieviel Geld er rauswarf. Die Mega Drive Variante hatte 2.Levels mehr.Da die Schlussequenz u.Schlangen aus der Darth Vader der Endboss sich zusammensetzte,technisch auf Mega Drive nicht möglich war oder eingespart.😮❤😂 Aber Klasse das waren noch Zeiten!!!❤❤❤ Ach ja gibt es das Golden Axe Remake überhaupt zum kaufen???

There are differences to the DOS-version... The DOS-version has no fleeing villagers, the color-schemes of the henchmen have a different progression, the enemies spawn differently...
