There needs to be a book/series of books purely based on the far Essos. Most importantly covering Yi Ti, the Jogos Nai, the cities of the former Patrimony of Hyrkoon, the 5 forts, K'Dath, Leng, etc
Armies of unimaginable size, great riches, large cities and palaces and once managed to extract tribute from Qarth, Old Ghis and even Asshai?! Wow...even a palace as huge as Kings Landing. This proves that many eastern cities in Essos are huge. Even Asshai is larger as Qarth, Kings Landing and Oldtown combined.
I was hoping we would see someone from the Yi Ti in the TV series, like an Ambassador from this Essos region. We do have a representative from the Yi Ti though - the Red priestess in Volantis, when Tyrion and Varys pass by.
All this imagined by one man! Damn man GRRM is a great writer. Don't want to cause any controversy by saying this but his works are as good as J. R. R. Tolkien's work, if not better. Such detail, almost feels like all these things actually happened in the past.
Coloured contacts exist. Also, loads of skips were taken from the TV show. Daenereys is supposed to have purple eyes but she doesn't have it on the TV show.
Again, it's for the actors to wear not for the people in the ASOIAF universe to actually be wearing story-wise. There are Chinese out there with bright eyes, and bright eyes doesn't mean blue or green eyes - it could mean light brown or yellow eyes which some Chinese do have. White people don't naturally have white hair (at a young age) or purple eyes but yet we assume Valayrians are white. And bright eyes are one of the eye descriptions we see from people from Yiti, so we can't assume anything right now apart from their culture people extremely similar to our real-world Chinese civilisation.
@@sergelengerelmaa2450 That is based on the war of Three Kingdoms. A real event. This is a fantasy world, but clearly the civil war between three emperors is taken from Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Martin has admitted its a major inspiration.
I love this lore, great info! It only makes me more curious about the details, like why five forts next to each other if you can ride around it? What is up with that Bonetown? I think Yi Ti is inspired by China, Mongolia and the Great Wall (the forts). The intro looks nice, but it's very long and gets annoying if you want to watch another video and have to listen to Nirvana again and again. It's a bit depressing for such a colourful show imho Also: maybe a timeline would be nice addition. I'm a bit confused in which era we are
wow, the extended Game of Thrones universe sounds really interesting. Since HBO is forcing all those prequels and spin offs, I'd like to see something set in Yi Ti.
Really interesting video man! Just curious, you mentioned "the long night", is this THE same "the long night" that occured in westeros? was it an "worldwide-thing" that was happening through the whole world? that is, did snow/the cold come to Essos as well? Appreciate if you could answer that! :) Also, would be AWESOME if you made a video on the most eastern parts of Essos, like the shadow lands and beyond! And also something about sothoryos and Ulthos!
I hope George gives us more information about Yi Ti, Sothoryos, and The Shadow in The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring; you can’t just create these vast, mysterious, end exotic locations within your own eon spanning history and only have them referenced in a single companion book and not in the main series. Even if the main character’s never see them in person I believe that Martin intends to at least have them referenced more directly in the coming books.
KTChamberlain Yes, Varys probably has no interest in lands beyond the bone mountains. He probably only has his spies in Westeros, the Free Cities, The Ghiscari Slaver's bay cities and a few in Qarth.
The city Carcosa is a nod to Ambrose bierces story "an inhabitant of carcosa". About a seemingly cursed city ruled by a "the king in yellow" (instead of grrms yellow emperor)
I doubt that Westeros and Essos are connected through these unknown areas but, I think the known world was part of the Empire of the Dawn. The Long Night and ensuing war broke mankind apart for thousands of years. The Long Night was clearly a worldwide event, and the people must all have been connected to hear the same story, a Last Hero who killed the monsters and brought back the Dawn. Because if Azor Ahai was real, then he didn't have to time to go sailing for years from continent to continent to fight the white walkers.
Yes. GRRM has said that this world is round and connected, probably by a land bridge at one time. Similar to the one that connected Russia to Alaska. Some have theorized that the Five Forts and the Wall are the east, south barriers, and the water is the west barrier. That leaves them the North.
It's not that they couldn't. More like they didn't. The easternmost territory of the Valyrian Freehold were the cities of ancient Ghiscar, Mereen, Astapor and Yunkai. They never even got to Qarth.
The one show that has a Chinese and Japanese like setting akin to Yi Ti and Leng is Avatar: The Last Airbender. The Avatar series surprisingly has a lot of parallels with George R.R. Martins's A Song of Ice and Fire series.
@@apollothehuman7 Guess again. Avatar also took many aspects from real life and just so happens to share many parallels to ASOIAF. Hama the Bloodbender is the closest TV has ever gotten to Lady Stoneheart. Zuko shares a lot of common ground with Sandor Clegane and Theon Greyjoy. Toph Bei Fong is what you get if you give Arya Stark earthbending. The way Toph and Katara feud with each other is a lot like when Arya and Sansa fight and are also two years apart. The Lion Turtles are a lot like the Old Men of the River seen in Book Five, but much bigger. Aang shares a lot of similarities to Aegon V when he went by Egg in the Dunk and Egg novellas. Firelord Ozai shares a lot of similarities to Euron Greyjoy. The Islands of the Fire Nation look a lot like the Iron Islands. Hell both even have a red comet that play a significant part in both franchises. I could go on. Hell, I have enough to fill a video essay and I'm currently working on that. Bottom line: Avatar is not just a shonen. There's a lot more to it, much like there's a lot more to A Song of Ice and Fire than it being just a fantasy.
I'm also not a native English speaker so I understand the difficulty in learning new languages. "the thirty-fourth ruler of THE scarlet dynasty", not "the thirty-fourth ruler of scarlet dynasty". the scarlet dynasty, the indigo dynasty and so on... it's THE "____" dynasty. the word The is very important here and really affects how the whole sentence sounds. great video over all.
I know. There are sensitive issues concerning production of these videos. That is why I do not answer certain questions and that is why I do sometimes make certain intentional mistakes (most of them are unintentional though, and that's even better). Not such a big issue if you compare it to some other would-be consequences. That is my vision. Thanks for comment though. Hope you'll keep watching.
I think they are just helping but tbh as a native English speaker it is not a big deal if you drop 'the' from most sentences and it might sound like you have ESL but it's not difficult to understand in anyway. Also most people that act like jerks about whether your English is 'good' 'enough' only speak English so I wouldn't exactly hold their opinion with high regard :)
I was offering constructive criticism. it's really noticeable when he forgets the word "the". I Simply thought that amending that mistake in future videos would help him create better videos. Being a Russian is not an excuse, he is a youtube content creator who chose to create content in English,. to reach a wider audience...improving his English would only help him keep that wider audience. Besides today you don't have to know much English to avoid such mistakes. You could simply write a script and use a spellchecker app like Grammarly and it would tell you that you are missing allot of necessary words for the sentence to be grammatically correct.
RSE 167 mostly China. Yi Ti was described AS a huge empire. And that doesn't fit japan. The buildings and names are based on China. Japanese buildings were different. They didn't have those Towers.
So if I may... the author weaved a conspiracy akin to our own into his stories??? And one would assume star of the seven, the emperors of yi ti have something in common?? Thsts cool
The Yi-Ti's size power and accomplishments reeks of embellishment and over exaggeration. Even if stronger than Valyria, it would likely be like the early Chinese empires equivalent strength to the Roman's. Though this kind of embellishment is not at all uncommon. Particualrly since this probably comes from an outsiders interpretation of the Yi-Ti.
YI Ti was not the capital of the empire of the dawn… that was Asshai… they had dragons and were able to make the black fused stones the 5 forts are made of… The blood stone emperor was of Asshai explaining why it’s now covered in shadow.
Yi Ti is the empire of the dawn, the Bloodstone Emperor was from Yi Ti he was the Amethyst Empress younger brother who dubbed himself the bloodstone emperor after he cast her down and slew her…”in the annals of the Further East, it was the blood betrayal, as his usurpation is named, that ushered in the age of darkness called the long night”. The World of Ice and fire. The five forts are in Yi Ti as well. All of this information comes directly from The World of Ice and Fire. Any theories are just theories until they are proven in writing.
Also Asshai is built entirely of black stones it is not similar to the type of black stones that built the freehold. The stone in Asshai is described as “greasy with an unpleasant feel to it, that seems to drink the light”.
guardian devil and they have shrines and cooler looking temples than China. But china is Yi Ti because it was described as a huge empire with huge cities. And they had large armies.
Chinese history is definitely cooler than Japanese. The warring state period and the three kingdoms period are great stories for inspiration to Game of Thrones type of story
