I checked this book ru-vid.comUgkxSw1k29V8f0aNwyGI6qRGYJc3E4Y4Eoxy out at the library - read it cover to cover - and then decided to purchase it, so i can refer to it as needed. This provides additional ways to train in addition to the two obedience classes my sicx month old belgian malinois has already attended. Despite having dogs my whole life, i have been voraiciously reading dog training and psychology books lately given my little "maligator" has a mind of her own (extremely smart but obstinate) , and this one ranks among the best.
Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games ru-vid.comUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!
I've watched this video so many times and it's really helped me understand how to groom my Golden myself so I don't have to spend a fortune going to groomers all the time.
I've watched this video several times and really appreciate these grooming skills. Goldens should be groomed to their natural look and not shaved. Great tips!
This Golden was great. The ones I have had to deal with LOVE TO SIT. Not as cooperative. Thank you for this. I am new to grooming and find I struggle with these kind of dogs.
My English creme golden always sits. She just turned 4 on Halloween. I got her as a puppy from Make a wish. She's my service dog. But she also has major skin problems and allergies so we have to do baths 2x a week. Literally have to stick my left arm under her belly and lock that hand to the other side of the tub so the weight is held as she tries to sit. She is overweight, we're working on it. But being as weak as I am it's difficult in baths. A little bribe of peanut butter sometimes gets that butt up. My sweet Goldie had to be put down this September. I had her since I was 9, she lived to 11. She used to be my practice pup!! Dove goes everywhere with me, so I figured since Goldie was just a pet nobody would see and sweet girl wouldn't be ashamed at my mistakes 😂 Chloe, I understand where you're coming from. But if they sit, you can't wash that part of their skin completely. Dogs can sit during a bath, they just have to do so in small amounts of time.
I agree with Anna! This is the first Golden Retriever grooming video I've watched that didn't horrify me by the way the groomer handled the dog! Very helpful tips that I'm anxious to try on my precious Golden. Thank you!
Thanks Chris. I've been grooming for 4 years now in Copenhagen, mainly Cotons, Bichons, Westies etc, and I had to do my first Golden Retriever this morning. Your video was a huge help. I watched it twice and was consequently able to really do a great job on Valde, a big three year old. Your tutorial was extremely precise, informative and relevent and my client was extremely happy with the result too. Thanks very much again. Niels
Thank you, Chris, this demonstration was very helpful. I am not a groomer, but my golden is experiencing health issues and going to the groomer is just too stressful for her right now, and I needed a few tips to tidy her up a bit. Very clear directions.
So wonderful watching this- we have two delicious Goldens on the Outer Banks of NC and they swim constantly- so we are rinsing and bathing so much. We have a grooming van that visits us fairly often and she does summer cuts for the hot weather and swimming and a cut very similar to the one you just showed us. Thank you so much for the video- it was lovely!!! Peg, Maisy
What a beautiful job you did on this dog! You made it look so easy, but I know it takes lots of skill. I don't have a show dog, yet my dog's parents were show dogs. I love how you give the reasons not to use clippers or those undercoat combs, etc. I learned a lot from this video and I will be sure to take care of my dog's coat with your tips.
What an amazing video! Thank you so much for sharing. I am not a professional but my Goldie looks 10 years younger and much smarter by following your tips 👌 just wish he stood still like this gorgeous lady 😍
Yes! This is the kind of grooming and information that is important for the right breed and coat. Too many shave these coats and with that goes the whiskers. Coat and whiskers have an important purpose! So many don't take the short time to research this and ignorantly comment to support the bad groomers or mistakes they've made themselves.
Great Video I love Golden Retrievers Gemma is my 2nd one My 1st Golden Jodie was 13 when she died. My now Golden is nearly 11 years and your video has taught me a lot about grooming needless to say I have been doing it all wrong I was pulling the fur from beneath her paws and cutting the fur she hated it and would pull away but now you have shown me how to do it. among other things. did not know they had a double coat etc And the groomer with metal comb that you mentioned and said not to use. I have been using but no more so thank you.
Great Video! Great looking and a well-behaved dog:-) The goldens we get in are way more hairy and thick, lol, like shepherd or husky grade! Between our thinning shears, slicker brush, and undercoat rake (paws pamper undercoat rake) they always come out 2 lbs lighter!
Oh my god this video is PERFECT! I just bought scissors and such because I want to start grooming my dog myself but wasn’t too sure what to do where and how - and what each scissor was for. But this just got it all covered - love it. Thanks so much for posting such a good vid #appreciated
I just absolutely love the golden retriever dogs. They have a wonderful sunny disposition. One day I will finally get one after many years ....However this time round it will be a guide dog for my hearing loss & will go absolutely everywhere with me even on a plane overseas. Janine Rhodes my dog will go absolutely everywhere with me even on a plane overseas
@@jaymeshooper3855 oh damn how things change in 8 months lol...we were not able to get a puppy sadly because we didn't have enough time or money but we actually met a guy who needed help with his golden retriever since he couldn't take care of it when he worked outside of the city and so we keep her for about a week or two every month, her name's Balou and she's wonderful
Great video. Found it hard to hear him and I agree would be nice to know what tools. I am struggling to find somebody to groom my 11 year old golden that is kind and gentle so I do as much as I can myself. One groomer left my dog very nervous of going again.
My golden has long hair under her tummy and down her front legs. Is the tummy area ever trimmed? It almost touches the ground. She is 8 yrs old and is spayed. We have only had her for 2 years and have not been able to find a groomer that knows how to groom goldens.
Why does the fact she's spade give her more trouser? I hope to get as confident as you appear with more practice grooming my Jack. Thanks for the video... very informative!
I love this. You do such a beautiful job. I wish more professional Groomers would take note. From what I hear, especially in the USA!! When ever I have had to find a Groomer I always ask how they do it and the first mention of clippers I'm off! There seems to be a current trend of clipping their coat off completely. A so called professional that does this should be ashamed of themselves!!
I have two goldens and this guide is so helpful. I wonder if grooming the male golden retriever is different than female golden tho? Since their hair length differs very much I was wondering if you can make a male golden retriever grooming guide as well for show ring, thank you!
Very helpful as to how to cut & why not to cut too short. I had heard you shouldn't cut to just trim & didn't believe it so very greatful for that info too. However, around anis so she doesn't swallow too much hair & inside ear to keep mites away can it be cut shorter. Last of all were those scissors special so as not to cut dog. Thumbs up
On the Golden's with Ichliosis....do you recommend a shampoo or conditioner that helps lessen it? I groom one with this skin condition and she comes every two weeks and is shampooed with Sebazole which the vet gave them and I also condition her with Double K Moisture Magic. Nothing seems to help.
I have 3 goldies. When it starts raining over here in thailand our yard if you want to call it that, turns in to one big mud hole. Its extremely warm here and the dogs are just miserable their only reprieve is to sack out in a mudhole There are no professional groomers over here that I am aware of. I have tried to cut their hair. When i finished it looked like the barber of sevile had just walked out. When they get wet and the hair isnt dried properly, over a period of time they get this skin rash that takes forever to clear up, and the vets over here say it is a virsus that gets in the blood and is easy to pass from one animal to another. Are there any options?
I just have one question, the retriever I'm going to groom has really long fur and has gotten matted really badly, I'm assuming clippers are okay in this case? Ill probably use the longest heads first so I don't get the under coat
Try using a dematting comb with blades, it works really well! If it doesn't work then the only way is probably using clippers. The coat isn't gonna grow back normally immediately. It's going to take a couple of months for the whole coat to shed out but after that the coat should be fine. But yes, if nessesary use clippers.
Guys what's the trimmers being used? Looks like scissors with comb for most of the thick trims then simple long scissors for precision but not sure where to get them. Thanks!
Diesel Beast Films those are thinning shears, which doesn't cut all the hair off,but instead only a few hairs at a time, so they thin out, hence the name! I don't know what brand he's using but it may help you find something similar!
Do you trim around the belly or the buttocks? What is your opinion on using a conditioner on the coat? If you don't pull out the undercoat, does the dog shed more? I live in Utah where is it hot in the Summer and cold in the Winter, so I'm trying to learn grooming before I get a Golden.
