Golden Retriever Meets a Cat For The First Time!
My dog meets a cat for the first time! I've always wondered how their first ever encounter would go, and today this finally happened! Both very curious yet hesitant to come closer to each other. Can a dog befriend a cat, that is the question. I'm documenting this journey and can't wait to see where it will bring us.

This is really hard on a cat. How come you aren't petting the cat, to reassure it? And are petting the dog, instead? Also, it's recommended to keep a cat and another animal separated by a door for a few days, to get used to each other with the safety of the door between them.

@ALinn-vr3nl You are assuming that they haven't given them time. These meetings were completely monitored. I assume that the cat has been familiar with the owners for at least a little bit because the cat was eating out of the owners hand without fear.

For dogs, fast tail wagging means friendliness, but for cats it means agitation. This difference in language is one of their fundamental problems of communication. The dog is quite smart in handling the situation, but so is the human :)..

It takes time for a dog to understand a cat, unlike children or adults with more emotional support, they're incapable of relating, so it takes more gentle persuasion. It was fun to watch them both!

My dog had never been around a cat and when he met one for the first time he knew instinctively to be cautious . Dogs don’t run up to every animal they see and try to befriend them . Thanks for sharing we have both and love them .

I have seen on the This is Bailey channel how the owner has some pieces of ham or lunch meat on a plate between both, then takes turns feeding one then the other, all the while moving them closer to each other until they are practically eating it right at each other's lips. Seems very effective that way.

Bravo to humans in letting these two interact without getting in the way. No need to do anything but watch because the intent of both animals was to take their time in getting to know each other. Neither of them had malevolent intent. The ending was perfect.

Kitty doesn't want it's butt sniffed. 😂 Leo is wagging his tail like crazy saying he wants to be friends, and kitty isn't ready to yet. They'll be friends, or at least come to an understanding at some point.

Both Cat and Dog are beautiful, but it's clear that, for the Cat, a large dog, suddenly appearing, is anxiety....and the poor thing has it's back up and heckles up....which is not good for it's comfort or stress levels.

I smiled as I watched. Lovely cat, lovely dog. Excellent videography with the exception of the music which I found very distracting. I muted the video, but then missed any sounds either animal made. They are both so tensed. Dog makes cat tensed and in return, cat is on defensive and that makes dog tensed.

Cat dog relationships are based on body language , dogs wag their tails when happy , cats swish their tails when angry , kinda makes for a easy misunderstanding .
