You're right, the framerate drop in this game meant that things were epic as hell. So many particles gave an impression that too much power was being unleashed, to the point were you were telling yourself ''HOLY SHIT!''
That's one thing about this game I love. This was launch title for GBA but it seemingly took full advantage of the console's hardware. It's incredibly how much they were to accomplish in terms of graphical effects on this system with this game. Crap ton of cool animations for almost every weapon, spell, and summon.
@@SgtSega nah. It's the processor slowing down from having to calculate all the graphics. Makes it look more intense though. The battle being so legendary that the game system itself couldn't handle it.
Cruel Ruin is pretty sweet because it uses Summon mechanics. Basically how Summons work is that they have a set damage power they use, and then they have a multiplier added to them. Using Cruel Ruin as an example, it's a Venus attack with a base power of 200 and a damage multiplier of 40%. That damage multiplier is checked against each character's HP (so Cruel Ruin will /always/ do at least 40% of each character's health in damage, plus whatever damage that base power would do). That's why Cruel Ruin does way more damage to a higher leveled party than a lower leveled one. Interestingly, the only other Enemy attack in either game that works like this...is Avimander's Mars based Star Mine (35% Damage Multipler...at a paltry 35 Base Power, so not quite as intimidating). Dragon Driver and Outer Space are straight damage skills, (120 and 200 Mars Power respectively)
Anyone else realized that the Doom Dragon stops using Mars abilities in its last phase due to Felix's and Jenna's mother (a Mars adept) being destroyed at the end of the second phase (the red head)?
As a kid, there was honestly nothing more satisfying to me than watching that final head go down... Or more soul crushing than realizing you just brutally killed your character's parents
Was it really soul-crushing? I never found it that sad. It's not, like, Bridge-To-Terabithia-ish sad, because the parents were only minor characters and, the player is presented with almost no chance to become emotionally attached to them. But I will say that the way the aftermath scene of the battle is presented excellently. The gloomy, melodious soundtrack when the truth is revealed, then the tragic-sounding track when the Adepts realise they cannot save the parents, followed by strategic use of silence as the characters curse the Wise One, denouncing him. The whole scene is so tense, dramatic and memorable... But later, the heartwarming reunion and farewell (enhanced by tear-jerking/heartwarming soundtrack) when the parents are revealed to have recovered from their injuries. :) Such a well-rounded and sealed ending to an epic journey. :)
I remember when I first beat this boss. I was extremely happy and excited. I was totally wrapped up in the story. I even cheered. Then I remembered Saturos and Menardi and how they fused into the Dragon...and then my heart sank when I saw Issac's dad and Jenna's parents. And how I cheered at finally killing them. It wasn't the dragon anymore. I hated the Wise One with a passion after that. I still do. That was an extremely dirty trick. I cried a lot. Lol And then I was happy again after the actually ending. Still hated the Wise One. Even if he knew.
I never beat this boss I tried every night after school, I even went to bed when I had like 2 hours before school just trying to beat him. Oh the pain I felt every time I lost to him. But you know what, I'm going to go get a gba emulator and start playing this now. I have to and will finally defeat him.
Everyone is talking about Cruin Ruin, but not the true catalyst of thrown Gameboys: Djinn Storm Without djinn storm, there is a chance of weathering cruel ruin. But if all your djinn are taken away... You are fucked
Yeah, at lleast a few of the bosses in GS have laughably inadequate healing actions. Menardi ocasionally casts Wish; Karst can cast Healing Aura and Doom Dragon can only cast Cure. IF they're not gonna have more powerful healing actions than that, they might as well have no healing abilities at all. :)
This game was honestly a master piece and the final boss fight was so epic. Its like everything you did from the first game to the lost age has prepared you for this exact boss fight To see if you were a master at golden sun. What a journey!
Patrick Owers Yes it is. I really love its attack animation. It's one of my favorites like with Iris, Charon, Sol Blade, and few others. You have any favorites?
That was actually a Boss that deserves the title Final Boss. God, he destroyed me the few first times so hard. That excitement, first head down, I scream Yes! I got him and then I realize the real fight has not even started. Good game, good times
That feel when it uses djinn storm and follows up with cruel ruin The chances for this boss to utterly *destroy* you is par to none. Then you have... well. 70hp cure. Such a wily thing.
I won against him on first try... And what you feared happened! He used Djinn Storm and Cruel Ruin! Wrecked everyone... Thankfully, I still had two other characters alive and ready to use powerful summons!
oh man... brings me back... i had both the 1st and 2nd gs. borrowed my friends GBA so i can transfer all my djinni to lost age... got iris... and i have never... EVER grinded so much in a video game as i did in GS: TLA ... all my toons were lvl 99 (i'm serious) i grinded that one cave where u find the blue phoenix's on that island. i must've grinded for a total of like months dude... no lie
@@theultimatedragoon2231 He did it to be strong enough to beat Dullahan and the Doom Dragon, but it's not necessary to do it nearly that much. I have a particularly precise and super-powerful way to beat him, very particularly organised to maximise damage, but you can still do it with less powerful set ups. What's best is to give one of your characters 3 Djinn of each element other than his own, as well as the Tomegathericon, so that he/she can cast the Call Dullahan psynergy (learned at level 53). This attack's damage is based both on Physical attack power and Jupiter power, so it I like to give it to Piers, while giving him the Darksword (highest-attack weapon in the game) and Cleric's Ring (to nullify the Darksword's cursed nature). Then, mix up your characters' classes into the strongest bi- and tri-elemental classes; give Felix the Sol Blade and give Isaac and Garet Excaliburs each (there's an RNG method to guarantee the blacksmith will forge the Excalibur. It's on RU-vid, but it takes practice) while also having ALL the critical-hit-boosting equipment (such as mithril clothes, etc,) on them so that their Excaliburs and Sol Blade will have a 99% chance of unleasing when ordered to attack. Attack-boosting spells/djinn in battle also help.
@@fishofgold6553 fighting Dullahan in the arena was far more difficult as it's based on your level. So it was considered one of the ultimate triumphs to defeat him at level 99. At least around my friendship group anyway
this video is sick, I can't beleive you took out the doom dragon that fast. I made it to level 50 on all my toons and still i lose them in combat many times but you took on the dragon like spitting on your shoes. it just sickens to know this. but still good work
Depending on how you set up your characters, Doom Dragon can be either easy or hard. Level doesn't matter (even though you need a high enough level, preferably at least level 30-40) because of Cruel Ruin (which is a summon ability, meaning that it has a multiplier percentage that scales with your party's health, so the higher the health, the more damage Cruel Ruin deals), and if you rely too much on Djinn, Djinn Storm can ruin them if you don't use them right.
I dont think I will ever forget how many times this damn dragon kicked the ever loving shit out of me front and back down the road over and over. I struggled on this one badly. Not nearly as bad as the star mage but we dont talk about that pos.
I give up on this boss. I fight him for 20+ minutes and make it to the third head, and I quickly die without getting close to finishing it. Screw the third head!
When I beat this boss, all of my equipment was enchanted with +10 dumb luck. There's no way to get it in the game. You either get it in real life or you don't.
in terms of story they gotta improv3 the charavters background and developement like felix as a anti hero which is nic3 and s and m need more mature dialogued
I remember my first fight against this boss. Spent quite a few turns reviving the fallen so I could stand a chance against him, and I didn't use many summons due to the threat of Djinn Storm.
@TheLilchristopher I assume you're referring to either Isaac or Garet looking like one on the characters in Dark Dawn. Well most of the characters in Dark Dawn are the children of the GS1 and GS2 protagonists including the main character, Matthew, who is son of Isaac and Jenna.
The 2 yellow heads are supposed to be Kyle (Isaacs dad) and Felix's dad supposedly. The red is Felix and Jennas mom the fire adept. Although Felix and Jenna's parents could have reversed roles you get the idea. How else would Felix be a Venus adept and Jenna a Mars?
The red head is Felix's and Jenna's mother. Apparently, after you destroy her (the red head), the Doom Dragon is unable to use Mars attacks in its last phase, because she is also a Mars adept and you pretty much get rid of the Doom Dragon's only source for using Mars abilities, unlike the Venus element for which the Doom Dragon has 2 sources, which are the 2 fathers.
OMG... And here I was, still thinking that Fusion Dragon's battle was epic... O_O (And yes, I just gave myself a huge spoiler, but oh well, it's my problem, I knew what I was doing, I just couldn't resist... x) )
i remember the first time i fought doom dragon. every time a head would die, i would get scared cuz i thought it was unleashing some ridiculous attack hahahaha!
The most epic final boss, like, Golden Sun does all great, dreadfull, powerfull and its not unfair, just EXTREMELY HARD, even if you farm hard and finish the extra dungeon it is still hard as hell
i read about a lot of people having trouble with the doom dragon, i beat it like everytime without any major grinding and without a lot of summons and djinni, i had one time a terrible rng pattern and just went ahead with a lot of turns wasted on healing, changing characters and doing any cheap damage, tooks time but is worth it, and, the wise one, what a dick
Hey Omega, I just noticed something, one of the charecters looks like the one you play on golden sun Dark dawn, which I have, so how is he in dark dawn? Default appearance / cameo?
Guard aura. The boss knew it was comming and protected itself accordingly (common issue with round based games back in the days. The AI knew what you did and acts accordingly more or less to some extent)
@@chumchuumm But that also means you can predict what the AI is going to do. This works especially well with Dullahan - if he uses Haunt and/or Curse at the end of his turn, you know the next turn will include Djinn Storm and/or Charon, so you can take appropriate action to avoid or at least minimise the damage.
@@fishofgold6553 Thats called a script/mechanic that executes regardless of circumstances. A boss using Guard aura because based on your general input so far means he learns/adapts to your strategy and tries to counter it, if you dont have a set tactic he will not use guard aura in the same way but merely here and there in the hope of it being useful and because its in the ability pool
@@fishofgold6553 I remember using Ground and Petra to block him from the Aura. Imo, it's the worst move because it completely destroys your summons, so my strat was using Petra along with Iris and Catastrophe, it's the safest bet if you want to avoid the surprise. If you don't have Iris or Catastrophe then Eclipse it's your best choice, it sustainably deals 1k damage and it's very cheap to prepare
