Participation in other competitions and festivals / creative achievements: Anna Udras, an immigrant theatre director from Russia, has been making significant progress in the theatrical arts for over five years, directing and assistant directing across multiple countries. Her innovative approach and compelling productions have earned her notable accolades throughout her career.
Anna's journey as an assistant director began in 2019 with "TABURETKA Vol 1" by Skitaltsy production at Powerhouse in Moscow. She continued working with Nikita Chernoritsky on "Back to the Swords Themselves" and "TABURETKA Vol 2" in 2020, and assisted on "Government Inspector" by Nikolay Gogol at Studio Theatre, CSM London.
In 2021, Anna contributed to "Boys" by Ella Hickson at Platform Theatre, CSM London, and "TABURETKA Vol 3" in Moscow. The following year, she worked on "KLAZO" by BOLD MELLON Collective at The Place, London, and "Queer Faces of War" in both London and Manchester.
Her assistant directorial efforts continued into 2023 with "Queer Faces of War" at TORCH, Oxford, and "KLAZO" at Theatre Deli, London. In 2024, she contributed to "Give or Take" at Rich Mix, London, and "Attendre est plus difficile que d’enterrer" at MEMORIAL, Paris.
Anna's directorial journey began in 2019, while still in education, with scenes from John Ford's "Tis Pity She’s a Whore" at Studio Theatre, CSM London. In 2020, she directed three notable productions: "The Sorrows of Young Werther," scenes from "Hamlet," and an online production of "Mid Summer Night’s Dream."
In 2021, Anna directed "A Girl and a Revolutionary" by Igor Simonov, and in 2022, she took on Sarah Kane's challenging "Blasted," both at Studio Theatre, CSM London. Her most ambitious project came in 2024 with "Forgiving (My Mother)," a devised production in collaboration with BOLD MELLON Collective and TAKDAJA, featured at THE GLITCH as part of "A Pinch of VAULT" in London. This exceptional work earned her the prestigious Hungarian Contemporary Art Prize (H-C-A-P) in the category of Theatre in 2024. It has also since been booked to take part in Edinburgh Fringe Festival in the summer of 2024 and the Voila! Festival in the autumn of 2024.
Anna's remarkable achievements in both directing and assistant directing have established her as a formidable force in contemporary theatre, consistently pushing the boundaries of the art form.
