I’ve been mulling paints for a long time but always have trouble getting exact matches for specific pigment recipes even when I use measuring scoops. I really need a scientific gram scale for more accuracy but one of these would definitely help me define and compare batch to batch and help me with refining my process of colour theory. I’ve been studying colour theory for many years but I did not know that devices like this even existed, nor a Hegman Gauge, until I just came across your RU-vid channel today. I really appreciate your input here in the science of pigmentogy. I want to refine my practice even more and become a pigment scientist someday.

Ohhhh dang! So many reasons I would love to have the Nix2 ... I was looking into the one that you have and trying to come with a good reason to have one at work. Unfortunately none of the reasons would pass as a valid motive! Really nice video and that huge bucket is really something.
@dirtyblueshop

Please as work would be enough of a motive right? 😅 thanks for the kind words and yes, it’s a bucket of yellow ochre next to a barrel full of red ochre 😉

I feel like the nix sensor would be super helpful when trying to figure out colors from things like reference photos! A ways back I had heard that ochres of all colors come from a specific type of clay? Do you know if that's true? I had never thought much about pigment classifications by anything but color before that
@dirtyblueshop
@dirtyblueshop Год назад

Two weeks, that could technically still include today if I am lucky. I'm a scientist at heart (and mind), and after some years of illness have over the last year discovered watercolour for myself. Painting has become a release for me and I really want to start making my own colours as well. I've mulled it over, so to speak. Terrible joke.. I know. Anyway - I'd love to use the sensor to get a better grasp on the colours I use, and also those I may make myself. My scientific background sometimes means that I cant just say "Oh, that's a pretty teal" without wondering about what constituent colours make it up. But lets be honest, I will probably be curious and stick it onto nearly everything, just to see what colours may be hidden in it.

(I am french and it's not easy for me to explain this in english) I would love to have the Nix sensor because I am very sensible to colors and I try to understand them deeply. Colors have a super power of communicating like nothing else in this world. A tiny difference of hue or saturation and it's a total different meaning/ feeling. They talk through feelings like magicians. I can feel it, but I really don't own it. It's so subtile, volatile. I don't have a grab on it... I wish I could really use them better to communicate precisely through my paintings. One thing though, If I have this machine, I know I will go crazy with it and check all colors, every time, everywhere...😅

Waaw, that's a giveaway so worthy... I would love to win it to compare all my lapis lazuli, my growing collection of malachite, azurite, PO49 etc. because after all this collecting - which is a true passion of mine - I would love to find out if it's worth it... (and I know at least 1 paintmaker (DBshop, the maker of this video) that I don't have any doubts about).
@dirtyblueshop
@dirtyblueshop Год назад
That sounds like quite a good cause! Though the way you compare your paints now is already giving quite an insight in different brands and markers! You’re doing an amazing job!
