@@cyborgparrot1996 Nintendon't is the obstacle to quality for this one. I think it was one of their clauses. Read it somewhere. Some light to make it clear is more than welcome, it's unjustified we're getting a poor port of the original N64 ROM version while could have had a much more fleshed out version like this one. Let alone the mod support it could have had. Just imagine playing Flargee's WW2 maps or Goldfinger campaign mod, 60 FPS with these new textures...
From what Graslu has stated, the music for the remaster is actually the uncompressed version of the N64 OST. I haven't played GE in a very long time but I did notice the sound track had a fair bit more detail and 'crispness'.
Thanks to Ars Technica for the recent interview with Ross Bury and Mark Edmonds. Update about the cancellation of this in the description. TL;DR: Nintendo was all okay except one guy in 2008. For Rare Replay in 2014, most definitely MGM/EON after the disaster that 007 Legends was.
@@mtrader82 Well so far nothing changed, this won't be an official release. Barbara Broccoli doubled down again on not liking videogames, not letting IO Interactive use the likeness of any Bond actor and saying games are violence for the sake of violence.
@@Graslu00 damn. Such a shame . . Goldeneye is gaming history. I deserves this remake and to be seen, played and remembered. It set the 3d fps standard and was unlike any other 3d fps at the time of release.
they hyped it up a crapton on Nintendo direct just to release the same exact game. I'd rather just play on the n64 tbh it's not worth my time playing a re release of goldeneye unless it is THIS version
Guys to all of you- go play the N64 Goldeneye and then the Xbox goldeneye versions and compare the frame rates. The upgraded frame rate and higher resolution for the Xbox brings your nostalgia into 2023.
kind of like the recent Zelda 1997 Spaceworld cart build. so many more old screenshots brought in to full view. meanwhile i only ever heard rumors that this existed and then its suddenly here in full.
This game was well ahead of its time in several ways. You had some features that wouldn't really make it into other games until years later. I was a PlayStation owner when one day I went to a friend's place to check out this game, GoldenEye 007, that he had been raving about. It was mind-blowing for me to see the graphics and stuff like locational damage and its appropriate enemy reactions which I had never seen in a game before. That experience made me crave the N64 and this game, and soon enough I got them. I went on to play a ton of split screen multiplayer with friends. Pistols only with License to Kill enabled in Facility was our favorite way to play the game. I remember the awesome duels we had dodging each other's bullets using the right shoulder button + C left/right mechanic. We had so much fun. One of those guys I played with, the one who first showed me this game, passed away years ago. The memories of the game bringing us together for hours on end live on, and watching this video took me back to those days.
Sad to hear your goldeneye bro passed man. Gonna happen to me at some point, I had a lot of friends and we used to play 4 player together, was good fun.
In the context of console games, absolutely. But even PD a couple years later -- which was an amazing jump forwards to see on a console -- was still competing pretty out of its league against Quake series / Half Life / CS.
@@girlsdrinkfeck No? You fucking moron. Half-life maybe was inspired by goldeneye, but used quakes engine and heavily modified it. Half life invented storytelling, you don’t start off with a gun and start shooting people everywhere you go, but it puts you in a tram ride to tell you where your at and why your there. Then it explains why you need to start shooting stuff.
Shit happens. The same was done to a Wii remaster of the Rogue Squadron trilogy that was literally complete but shelved by LucasArts last minute. So it's just sitting on some harddrive somewhere. Rare themselves were also into pre-production of a Tommorow Never Dies game, they went to the movie's filming and everything just like with Goldeneye, but it was also cancelled last minute because the massive success of the Goldeneye movie meant the Bond license price was jacked up and Nintendo didn't want to pay it. But we got Perfect Dark instead so that's how life works. I believe this Goldenye HD team also made Perfect Dark HD? And that's amazing
and yet all they needed to do was put on their "thinking caps" and realize they didn't have the rights to Bond, didn't have the rights to Goldeneye, didn't have the likeness rights to Brosnan.....Its almost like common sense should have dictated they actually realize that licensed games require you actually have the license and not just you can do whatever you want because you made a game 25 years ago.
60 frames - both graphic modes. Achievements. Online multiplayer. Mini documentaries looking at the making of ... Instead, a below average version dumped on Gamepass. Brilliant. Sob etc.
GoldenEye is FINALLY officially releasing soon on Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Switch! However it isn't the version showcased on this video, and just a simple port. :(
@@bencoventry335 Probably you'd be able to change the graphics ingame. Something similtar to Halo: CE and 2. I think the Perfect Dark remaster includes that feature aswell, not sure.

Recent news regarding GoldenEye! Apparently Nintendo has been pushing to get the original N64 release unbanned from Germany, this could mean Microsoft and Nintendo are looking to re-release the game after all these years. It's funny how we all forgot about this ban probably being another roadblock back when this got cancelled in 2008. Nowadays the issue with Nintendo is non-existent, obviously, so the only issue they have to short out is the licensing. Not sure how this'll go, but definitely promising news after 25 years of problems from all parties. Back then MGM and Danjaq could've declined because of this Germany ban, aside of the different interests from both parties (Nintendo and Microsoft). I just hope this is a proper re-release on Nintendo and Microsoft, ideally PC too. The Nintendo Switch Online emulator left a lot to be desired and it'd be a shame to see GoldenEye performing poorly there after 25 years. Here's hoping!
@@hora8180 Ok. I didn't think there was much of note in the 7th gen. I didn't really think much of this either other than it would be nice to have on a 360.
The Beans spilled. GE XBLA made its way online. There's a 100% save file in the description. Don't ask me for a download link of the game, check the archives.
Yeah no kidding. I think that someone lost a huge amount of money by not releasing it. Tbh I would have kept it on my games list (console wise) and be one of those games I’d like to sink a lot of hours into it.
@@lazerbladebrennerpurdy8314 it’s a terrible shame that the Bond name is tied to so many licenses that it’s astronomical money to pay to release it as an independent project and a lot of legal red tape to get through to be able to make it official release worthy.
The sound effects - silencer, reloading, spent casings dropping, grunt of the shot henchmen, heck even the 'swooshing' of the top secret file was enough to take me back!!
I thought this day would never come. Seeing you play the XBLA remake of Goldeneye is almost as good as playing it myself, but I honestly never thought somebody would get their hands on this. I'm glad that out of all the people in the GE community it was you who did.
It’s weird how this is how you sort of remember the N64 version, even though it was substantially more ‘blocky’ in reality. Probably because everything that worked around the graphics, art direction, animations, nuanced control system etc was so, so ahead of its time
This is how my mind saw the game when i played on release. The controls were so quick and smooth, the graphics didn't even matter, those polygons started looking like real faces to me. The music is SO good.
I was more curious about what they did to Surface and Jungle - To see the graphical improvements This version of Facility doesn’t look like my idea of a military installation. Looks very dirty and unprofessional (thinking of it being a place with scientists working with chemicals)
Dude. You absolute legend. The method you used to protect Natalya in the Control level enabled me to finally beat this game after 13 years. I have been stuck on that level for ages. *THANK YOU SO MUCH!*
Yeah but it's so much easier than the original game, now that you can see the guards coming through the glass! Very impressed with this to say the least. A few slowdown issues, especially when the rooms get crowded, but it's minor gripes, especially when compared with Goldeneye Reloaded, which couldn't even get the characters and order of the game right.
This is breathtaking. They nailed the look and the feel of Goldeneye. In fact, I think if they made a remake in the 2010s, or even the 2020s, they mightn't have been able to recapture it as well as they did here. Thanks for this.
ITS THE SAME GAME, YOU CAN SWITCH BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN GRAPHICS SO THE ONLY NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE IS THE BETTER TEXTURES ALTHOUGH YOU MAY ALSO NOTICE THE 60FPS, HIGH RESOLUTION, AND THE AI IS A TINY BIT FASTER PEOPLE ARE SAYING THOUGH I DONT KNOW ABOUT THAT, OH AND BEST PART IS THE CONTROLS ARE MODERNIZED!
Rare Thief walked so Graslu00 could run. Amazing to still be following this journey of GE XBLA/Bean after all this time. Kudos to you Graslu, for the herculean effort (and herculean risk!) of putting the rumours and doubts to final rest, and finally recording GE XBLA in its entirety, well over a decade since its untimely demise. Patience is key.
@@bangerbangerbro the rumors I remember are what eventually resulted in PD XBLA. And if this build is from 2007 that would basically confirm those rumors. GE XBLA was ready to release and the combination of rights holders wouldn’t agree with terms for release.
@@enfynet That doesn't explain what rumours you mean. We already knew that GE XBLA existed. We already had footage of almost the same build as this, it just wasn't the greatest quality and didn't show anywhere near as much. Maybe half hour. I only saw it maybe a month ago but it has been around for years.
@@bangerbangerbro I never saw any footage before PD XBLA which is when the rumors started. Lots of people started using Source to make footage. This one looked like it was on the GE/PD engine.
@@0neDoomedSpaceMarine In fairness they never finished this remake, but yeah at the end of the day I'd prefer the original graphics, since they're more consistent with the 90s gameplay. Watching this I can't help but think "this is a 90s game with a 2007 coat of paint," which feels weird.
@@ZachAttackIsBack I can see that. I think IF it ever would have come out adding a thick blizzard would add a lot of atmosphere and would be really cool.
Only things missing from this already wonderful-looking HD remaster is the original source versions of the music and voice/sound effects before they were downsampled for N64.
There’s the source files of all the sounds from this game in uncompressed audio! All we need is the full uncompressed soundtrack that is still a work in progress by The Brickster and Elite Symphonies :)
As someone who grew up with this game and adores this game, I am immensely grateful that you were not only the one that gets to play it, but that I and many other Goldeneye fans get to see this played through by you and that this version gets to see the light of day. Thank you Graslu00!
A shame that the rights for GoldenEye are so tangled up - this looks fantastic and plays so smoothly. I'm glad it's seeing the light of day at long last.
Pretty sure it's more the fact it has multiple characters from different movies. The Goldeneye license has been used a couple times like the Wii game. They could cut the characters in multiplayer but keep the few needed for the bonus levels.
@@JP-ks9nh Yeah, I bet a lot of people who haven't kept up with video games could watch this and think "isn't this the exact same version I played on the N64 all those years ago?" - crazy how the mind of a youngster can fill in the gaps and make things seem more realistic than they actually were
My nostalgia senses are tingling going through this play through. Those late nights circa 1997-98 playing multiplayer with neighbors. While we were just having fun being kids, little did we know we were making memories.
Diddy Kong racing remains to this day as one of my all time favourite games, the memories it was goldeneye and dkr for me. Good times, a whole different time back then.

This game is not only great to play. Its just as satisfying to watch someone else play it. And the graphics/texures are a absolute work of art. It feels exactly like the original version but its still new and clean. They really did a good job with it making sure the charm is still there.
IT FEELS EXACTLY LIKE THE ORIGINAL VERSION BECAUSE..... GUESS WHAT BUB.... IT IS THE ORIGINAL VERSION LOL THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS HIGHER RESOLUTION TEXTURES AND CONTROLS IT IS LITERALLY THE SAME GAME ITS NOT "RE MADE" OR ANYTHING. ONLY TOUCHED UP
@@UNABRIDGED_SCIENCE I never said it was a remake... I was already talking about the updated graphics that was littarally the only thing my comment was about. The frustration is great. The Xbox360 controller doesn't have nearly as precise analog sticks as the original N64 one, so you legit can't play it the exact same way.

Imagine seeing a great-looking, nearly-finished remaster of one of the best games of all time that you own the rights to and being like "Nah, we're good."
I think the reason they cancelled was due to a dispute from Nintendo. Probably a Cease & Desist, you ought to know how much they love those things. Anyway, it's releasing now.
The whole reason the game was cancelled was that microsoft couldn't get the license for the james bond ip, because actvision bought the use of the ip at the time. So Microsoft couldn't release the game because of that.
@@Mrwill-in8ks I’m pretty sure it had something to do with Nintendo having rights to the game since they were the ones who published this game. I think all three couldn’t come to an agreement.

@@Mrwill-in8ks Actually, Rare themselves published Perfect Dark on the N64 and a few other games like Conker’s Bad Fur Day. It’s not a bad game per say but it’s just doesn’t live up to the greatness of Goldeneye 007. It was trying to be more like a call of duty game around the same time it was released and well it backfired tremendously and now it’s pretty much forgotten about unlike Goldeneye 007 which people still adore to this day even if it’s outdated until now.
Goldeneye Reloaded was a modern day classic, I think the game has the most originality and use of these creative "slow motion" breaching moments where you bust into a door and gotta kill all the guys before they can kill you. Very very unique.
I remember back in school I was famous for doing the Cradle on 00 Agent mode, people use to get me their GoldenEye cartridges so I can finish the game for them lol
You can now view the achievements on the official Xbox webpage! - account.xbox.com/en-US/gameinfohub?titleid=1766089184&activetab=main:mainTab2 (not anymore lol)
Hopefully it’s the remastered version that was supposed to come on the 360 but looking at the screenshots it looks like it’s going to be a version with the n64 graphics upscaled.
Probably placeholder images, considering they removed mentions to Doak but kept all the other dev faces. Although that was also a thing on XBLA I doubt it's final.
Wow. This looks incredible! The character designs are so clean and look so much better than the N64 ones. Still a testament to how amazing the music was that it also wasn't changed.
it'd be even crazier.. ystd when i was playing i almost imagined the devs putting in snippets of voice action like.. trevalian could say for england james, but scattered throughout the game. or something.. mmm...well, it's the same devs, and they release perfect dark back in 2000. Perfect Dark is the far superior game in all aspects (technical, graphics, scope, gameplay, gadgets, multiplayer, etc) except for not having a Bond story. Heck, PD was even better than the acclaimed Halo, which I thought was garbage compared to Perfect Dark.
@@RealAlphaDrum Hah, I agree with that mostly, but what Halo had going for it was better AI, better physics, and way bigger open worlds. In terms of features, Perfect Dark definitely had Halo beat. It had tons of things that Halo wouldn't get until 2004, and a way bigger weapon sandbox. Perfect Dark might have been the killer game for Xbox if Rare held out for it instead of putting it on N64. If it had 1 fewer FPS, it would have been nearly unplayable on 4 player split screen.
Amazing to see what could have been that was so unnecessarily taken away from us by MGM/Danjaq. It's a crime what they've done with the Bond license the last two decades - zero care whatsoever for the fans who are literally BEGGING to give them money for quality licensed games, and they either green light unplayable garbage or go years at a time without releasing a game at all. This was a HUGE opportunity to give Bond and GoldenEye fans something they've been asking for, and they are so incompetent and such poor stewards of their own license that they screwed it up massively by shutting this and so many other great projects (like GoldenEye 25) down. Shame on them - and bless Graslu and those others in the mod, GE:S, and developer community who do everything they can to actually give us 007 content that we enjoy, instead of either mediocre games or simply nothing at all like Danjaq.
