This is a collaboration with my talented painter friend Happy D Artist! Watch her painting process video here - • MY FIRST TIME PAINTING...
Happy and I go way back. For those of you who don't know, she is the one who inspired me and encouraged me to become a freelance artist when I was deciding whether to pursue my dream or work as a graphic designer. We e-met back in 2015 when I was still in art school and was focusing on oil paintings. Later we found out that we are '老乡' Lao Xiang means that we have the same hometown - Beijing. It’s such a wonderful thing to have someone to confide in and relate to since we are both freelance artists and started our art careers on social media. I learned so much from her, and she’s like a big sister to me. This is our first sculpture collaboration and we are super excited about it. Would you ever consider doing a video on how to get started for SUPER beginners? Not necessarily a tutorial per say, but just advice on where to get materials, what materials to get, tips for beginners, etc? I'm a 2D artist who has always wanted to sculpt and venture into 3D, but it's very overwhelming.

Tip from someone who isn’t this skilled but has been working with 3D for a while: a good place to start is to get something like a package of Super Sculpey, some tinfoil and aluminum wires, maybe some masking tape. That’s basically all you need, you will figure out over time which supplies to get next based on what kind of creations you’re making and what your needs are. There’s no need to invest in all the fancy stuff all at once in the beginning, you will just end up not using half of it. Then maybe get some acrylic paint if you’re planning on painting it. Some sort of finish is nice but not necessary Imo. Watch a lot of these kinds of videos and pay attention to what kind of tools, materials and techniques people are using and make a little list on what’s relevant to the stuff you want to make. Then just start:)
