I love Goldfrapp's sense of humor. This is like one of those shitpost videos that you send to one of your friends with no context, to have them respond with "what the fuck".
Someone really deserved an award for this music video, and if MTV still actively only played music videos (old & new) this probably would’ve garnered the exposure it deserves.
So this is now 10 years old. I feel like at the time this look and sound didn't quite strike a chord with the public. But it would be perfect right now. This was a bit ahead of the curve.
This video is for all who were dancing in front of their closet door mirror to 'Xanadu' (on vinyl, of course), while their little brother picked a stereo war from the next room, blasting KISS on his new boombox.
Olivia Newton John, you're correct. About Kiss, not really, wrong reference, the corpse paints are not those of Kiss, but a more extreme infamous music : black metal, known for the various stories, including satanism, murders, church burning, hate, and stuff.
It definitely has elements of that, but it's basically a mash up of two Billy Joel songs: "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me" and the piano from "My Life". It's fairly blatant once you listen to those songs.

I'm returning to Goldfrapp after a LONG break and discovering what I've missed. I wasn't sure about this but I stayed for the metal corpse-paint dudes, and I'm SO GLAD I did. Back in the aughts I was very into Goldfrapp (and was lucky to see them live, in Portland, at the most stripped down show I've ever seen). When Seventh Tree came out I kinda lost interest... I just wasn't ready for it. The past week I've been listening to the stuff I loved before and everything I've missed since. It's been amazing (and Seventh Tree is fucking fantastic).
All Goldfrapps videos are clever, with underlying themes. I like the fact in this one that there are the pretty strong occult suggestions, via the pentagram and those rockers in cowls etc that something supernatural is going to happen, then we get this boppy sounding disco beat and bright colours, girls in leotards etc before they all turn into vampires and feed! The clues are all visually there at the start for how this is gonna end, but its still a bit disturbing when it does!
One more time they did it!!! A great song with a funny-sexy video with 80´s references ¡jajaja! I loooooooooooooooooove them. Goldfrapp is always at the Dance Floor.
Oh my, finally I realized!!! Is OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN versus DARTH MAUL (0:03) and my AEROBICS INSTRUCTOR versus KISS. I really wish to die like that guys: Listening Goldfrapp and dancing with a beautiful vamps!!!! GOLDFRAPP, WE SALUTE YOU!!!
lol, that 2:26 face is hillarious-) she usually makes me laugh with her vids, this is no exception. at first i was like wtf but this vid is funny as hell on so many levels with great stylisation, even more so than "rocket":))
Yes, that face! The whole video is fantastically funny. That moment in particular makes me giggle each time. Yeah I'm 6 years late, and just saw this video for the first time today although I've loved Goldfrapp since they came out. Oh well.
Nah, that would be all too obvious for those guys. They're much happier finding a two second clip in which Bowie (for instance) has his fingers crossed which, you know, just goes to prove beyond any possible doubt that he was actually a radioactive lizard being controlled by Satan to sow the seeds of destruction, or a clip showing Lady Gaga with 6 peas on her plate, and heck, you know where the number 6 can lead, right. LOL
Why do you wonder? It's just another bizarre music video. In fact this one is quite benign. I'm actually wondering when Weird Al will do a parody of some Goldfrapp video.
The real conspiracies are actually happening now with the liberals trying to deflect their loss to Trump. They can't deal with reality and even coming up with the "Russians made me vote for Trump".
I've read that Alison and Will weren't in love with this album and wish they had sold it to another band. I totally disagree. It's one of my favourite and I'm glad they made it.
agreed 100%! i hope they will reappreciate it at some point, it is a fantastic 80's pop album with a few of those unique Goldfrapp quirks here and there (Voicething, Hunt, but even ending of I Wanna Life). one of my fave albums by them (tho I think pretty much each of their album is well done)
@sonicnewboy ¡Jajaja! You are right. Sometimes we see a video and we want to see a symbol in every single scene, step and gesture... maybe they are just having fun!!! So simply like that!!! I don´t care about the symbols, all I want is to hear Alison sing!!!! Peace :) I WAS BLINDEN BY THE LIGHT :)
