This album has taken me through emotional times since I was 8 years old, i played it when I shut down as a kid and it played when I finally began to open up again 19 years later. I cant even begin to say what I owe those involved in this music. Inner city life, Sea of Tears and Kemistry broke the chains. Goldie I owe ya one son!

No one,..... I mean no one, can touch this most intoxicating track and album. However fresh anyone thinks anything else is.... This is where it all started for me, Goldie's use of the sample from "RED HEAT" during Pressure on this track is insane. Diane Charlemagne's angelic voice over it all and not to mention the intelligence used in the breaks on this one, Don't forget the BASS!!!!! EST. 1995 mskzmb....

*1 9 9 5* A year in the rave era period. The first *PlayStation* had arrived at that time, the Nike Air Max 95 "110s" trainer had evolved into a moulded different shape kinda futuristic, people then were actually building robots that walked. The internet was being used for the first time by the majority, Windows released Win 95. They had new generation mass consumer mobile phones that would sell for near future years in that time. Almost 20 years and they don't just go for good. And last Goldie had dropped Timeless ("Spiritual drum & bass") which no one could touch. 21st Century was shaping in progress...---->

I think Goldie is a very genuine guy who puts his all into his productions and really means what he says. Having said that, I just had such a hard time getting through this! I first bought it on (double?) cassette when it came out but, despite it's obviously impressive production for then, it never held my attention in the way a week of new releases would fascinate me. I absolutely don't believe in the term "ahead of their time". Goldie was perfectly OF his time, as is this record, but he excited people and pushed things forward. His "Terminator" is a wonderful example because it took what was already happening but focused it so sharply that it literally raised the bar for everyone else. Despite the fact I'm sure this record was forensically studied by many at the time, I don't think "Timeless" had the same effect on the music. 1995 was a year of division and reckoning for the scene and, sadly, I don't think it ever recovered. LTJ Bukem and Goldie opened their boutique clubs in London and denounced everything ragga-based. Even if ragga-jungle had become predictable by then, it still had all the massive street vibe that this record completely lacks. And then every year afterward, d'n'b only gets colder and more lad / nerd-centric until the drums devolve back to simply digested loops and the bass is less of a bassline and more of a synth garnish! I'm not blaming Goldie alone for the gentrification of Jungle into endless D'n'B techno, but he played a part in his own way. The fact that this album is absolutely NOT "Timeless", and more an artifact of 90's cheese, is something else. I really don't like calling it "self-indulgent" because I think artists should be totally free to make what they have in their hearts with the skills they've built and that's what this album was for him. I just think it fails to match the scene-schooling presence of "Terminator" or even the most primal, sloppy, rush of London's jam-packed pre jungle breakbeat hardcore raves at The Astoria. It's smart and well done but just too tasteful to be truly inspiring. It's kind of a Sting record in that way.
@infiniteenergy2353
@infiniteenergy2353 9 лет назад
I believe 'Terminator' was under the name Rufige Kru back in 1992. But this album is a piece in the book of Drum & Bass. Sounds of 1992 Astoria were more militant Junglist ragga dub sounds still waving out over the hype of hardcore, Jungle truly broke in the scene in early 1993 by group known as Tom & Jerry, I remember every setlists from Helter Skelter Dreamscape raves in 1994, that time Jungle was word out mainstream. Now it was the mid 90s, 1995 ushered in a softer more atmospherical downtempo sound at 140 - 160 BPM. Alex Reece who was the studio engineer at Metelheadz record label worked made the brilliance of this album, not Goldie himself. He did not get credited enough by Goldie, he was kicked of the label in 96. Then he began work on his own album 'So Far' which destroyed his career, which was mainstream and had no success.

1993, 94 was some of the hardest form of militant ragga dub style sounds ever. But about the 1995, 1996 I love atmospheric and downtempo jungle. The sounds are Examples of jungle artists by the likes of Wax Doctor, Nookie. I can't remember the labels well though. Helter Skelter brand raves. I advise you check out MickeyBeam75 channel, he has the whole catalog of the rave era. You name it House, Techno, Hardcore and Jungle

Just as a reminder, the three songs that comprise "Inner City Life" AKA Timeless are twenty minutes long when played together I look at them as movements as opposed to songs or tracks unto themselves! Mind= Blown! In the 90's I had the chance to hear these songs at least three times on major Rave sound systems here in California, USA. Los Angeles to be exact. The last time I remember hearing it was at a party on top of a mountain in the Malibu hills. I'll never forget hearing that flute riff blazing through the air and the trembling of my clothes from the waves of bass. This song is a stroke of genius. Bravo, Goldie and thank you. I am also a big fan of the RITM remix. I believe its called the vocalic city mix but don't quote me. Writing from my wifey's profile cause it's open.

Part of UK's subculture of 'Rudebwoys' of 1990s UK Youth culture. And it part of UK's 90s rave scene. At the same time during 1990s hip hop progressed in the United States with growth coincidentally UK had its own genre of Drum & Bass after UK Jungle (Jamaican militant ragga dub) that also rambled through the underground, on dub plates. Hip Hop and Drum & Bass are completely different, but they do have similar to how they portray the 90s urban, culture, streetwear and backdrop. Both genres have level of choice militant or mellow chosen sounds of instrumental

Jason Andrews If they were his masked sex parties they were obviously his masked sex parties. An invitation doesn't wear a mask. Anyway I heard they all have these weird masturabation techniques which work like signatures. Princess Anne high fives cocks.
